I'm putting together the list today for tryouts, which begin tomorrow! If you wanted to sign up, here's the spot to do so!

And if you've volunteered to help as a researcher or as a broadcaster and haven't already, apply for radio membership so you can get access to the locked comm posts.

Thanks!

The time of year when we look for radio talent! And we’re looking for a few good men/women/talking animals to become the island's voice for the fall.

Students, teachers, townies, newcomers, old hands—everyone is welcome to try out.

Beginning Monday, August 30 (the first full week with all the newbies), everyone who’s interested—new talent and old talent—will have an on-air audition (meaning that they’ll do a recap for everyone to read that goes up between 11 and 1 o'clock Eastern Time, generally. It’ll also give them an idea of how much time the coding will take and give them a final chance to flee from the chaos).

We’ll then put up a poll and you’ll all get to vote for the seven people/things who will be bringing the news to Fandom for the fall.

This is also your chance to do a one-off: if you've always wanted to do radio for just one night, here's the place to volunteer for it! You can also sign up here to volunteer to become an honorary squirrel, one of our intrepid research staffers. Since interest was expressed in just how links are collected and summarized in the last open forum, if you are interested in trying to be on the research staff, you can also sign up here to volunteer for just through the tryout session. After the tryouts are completed you can then decide if you want to stay or run screaming into the distance ala a Warner Brothers cartoon.

If you're interested, please drop a comment in this post.

Thanks!

A slightly bleary sounding Captain Jack Sparrow came over the radio waves at what he viewed to be a completely indecent time of morning (that is, one with only one number in the time. He didn't like to be moving before, say, eleven):

"Congratulations to the following broadcasters:

Chuck Bass & Dan Humphrey
Dimitri Belikov & Adrian Ivashkov
Lacey Burrows
Drake Démon
Rose Hathaway
Hawkeye Pierce
Sam & Dean Winchester.

Please stop by the radio station this week with the normal tribute of rum and pie."

[OOC: Yay. congratulations! The voting was suuuuuper close this go-around.]

Fandom Radio and You!

I realized that I haven't put this up for the newbies, so my apologies! Here, have a (slightly teal deer, sorry) explanation of how the radio works!

Okay. Radio. Please to be explaining?

IG, the pirate and the people who help him out every night get their information from a gang of squirrels who like to eavesdrop and have somehow learned to write. They also have a fondness for rum.

God, I love this game.

Anyway, from a more practical angle, the radio has a group of researchers who go through and summarize every post and every thread that all of you make every single day. There are four of them a night and a bazillion of you, so they do a hell of a job. Those summaries are then taken by our broadcasters and spread as gossip through a daily broadcast that is available as public knowledge for any character who wants to own a radio. What is said on the radio is playable in-game. The links that are included are for OOC knowledge only.

If you don't want something to be broadcast, please mark the post--if it's in a private room--with a NFB (not for broadcast) either in the headline or at the bottom of the entry, and our researchers'll skip right past it. We'll also skip any post marked OOC. (Tracy grabs the OOC posts.) You can also let us know that the people going in and out are mentionable, but not the contents of their conversations: we use this with the clinic's examining rooms as a matter of course. Please, please, please mark your posts and don't rely on tracking down someone who works for radio to arrange for handwaving of a conversation for you after the fact. We aren't trying to expose anything that is important plot-wise (or secret relationship-wise) for you, but there are more than 300 characters running around and things will inevitably get passed over if posts aren't correctly labeled.

If your conversation is taking place in a public post (the park, the Perk, the gym, cafeteria, whatever) and you want the contents of it not to be for broadcast, mark the thread as such. Because it is in public, your characters will still be seen there but the squirrel will have gotten bored listening or distracted by your bribe or whatever.

The pirate and his crew o' buccaneers thank ye!

A pile of blankets wearing a plumed hat staggered into the park carrying a bullhorn and a box, trailed by squirrels holding piles of notes.

"Bloody hell," Jack muttered. "I'm not a town crier."

Well, tonight he was.

He took a swig of rum, cursing under his breath about heaters and radio equipment that didn't work, held up the bullhorn and began.

"I'm Captain Jack Sparrow, it's bloody SNOWING and this is the news of the day!"

A squirrel helpfully held up a sheaf of notes. Jack stared at him. "Just today's."

The squirrel nodded.

Town crier Jack is loud. And talky. )

"Oh, right. The new radio broadcasters are Arthur, Deadpool, Sam and Andy, Barney and Lily, Drake, Lacey and Katina, and Chuck and Dan. Huzzah. I'm going to get something warm."

The list for broadcaster tryout schedule will go up later this evening, so this is just a reminder that tryouts are open to everyone, in case the original post got missed during the last few weeks of holidays and AFK-ness!

Sometime around noon, the pirate's voice burst from the radio:

"Good morning, me hearties!" he cried. "The results are in for the radio!"

There was the sound of many rodents pounding their paws on the desks to serve as a drumroll.

"Congratulations go to Sam & Andy, Arthur, Deadpool, Lacey & Katchoo, Valentine & Turtle, Drake, and Chuck & Lois. You still don't get paid."

With that, the microphone clicked off.

Hello, me hearties and welcome to what will clearly be the finest radio you've heard in quite some time, as it is I, Captain Jack Sparrow, bringing you all the news! Plus things I make up as I go along to make things more interesting!

*chittering*

No, I am not that drunk.

*disbelieving chittering*

Pass me the notes and off the plank with ye!

Talky Jack is talky. )

To do an AU radio broadcast from wishverse for the next few days!

The radio station was taken over early (alas, poor Barbossa, we hardly knew ye. Teach you to live with Logan...), and so the vampires have control (with their pack of squirrel minions who deliver very accurate news in the hope of not being eaten) of the radio waves.

Since there will also be a regular broadcast back here in Fandom-land, I'm looking for folks who'd like to do it (in the wishverse comm) as a one-off opportunity from one of your vampire folks.

Sooo...takers and preferred days? We'll go Tuesday til Saturday!
[identity profile] capt-maxfactor.livejournal.com
Hello, imaginary people through the microphone! Hello, my drunken little rodent minions! This is Captain Jack Sparrow, here to provide you the news, such as it is, for today. Which is what again? Oh, Saturday! I love Saturdays! Drinks all around!

Drunken pirate is chatty )

Oh, yes! We have new broadcasters to announce! Congratulations to Arthur, Katina and Lacey, Brooke and Jaina, Deadpool, Emmett and Chuck, the Winchesters, and Turtle and Valentine. There will be a staff meeting sometime next week! And that's it. This has been Captain Jack Sparrow! Good night!

Good morning, fellow Nemesisians! Are we using that, or did we decide on Nemesisers at the last town hall meeting? I slept through it.

Had a weird dream involving Delores and cupcakes, too, but that's nothing you'd be interested in.

Anyway, I'm Captain Jack, the chipmunks are assuring me that yes, it is morning, and I'm here to tell you what we got up to yesterday as we got to explore a simply charming new island. Oh, and the chipmunks here also want me to pass along that they are much more efficient than the inferior squirrels of Fandom.

*more chittering*

Who they kidnapped. Excellent work, chipmunks. More on that later.

Early this morning, our charming Mayor and equally charming...Delores...met with their completely less charming counterparts Cable and Zoe. Was it actually a piece of cable? Because that would be strange even for here. Blah, blah, we like their island, blah, blah they aren't happy, blah tournament.

I love tournaments! Drinks all 'round!

*pause* What do you mean, I'm supposed to cackle evilly now?

Two of their students wandered over to our fascinating little spot of the world and ran into a bit of trouble over near the dark forest with one of our more mysterious citizens. Oh, I love a good mystery. Also wandering around in the forest today was the Cylon--oh, he made a friend!--Korr played a bit with his food, which then ran off--sorry about that, mate--and Kroenen was out for a bit of a wander. Still working through that break-up, eh? I'm wonder if those silly little children went crying back to their mayor. Honestly. What were they expecting, coming here? It's called the dark forest Did they think they'd get tea and cookies?

Well, if you talk with Delores, then yes. And speaking of which, she was chatting with the mayor in the park today. See what I did there? It's called a transition! She must have been out of tea, though, since the Mayor was also over at Mrs. Lovett's Meatpie Emporium.

Bryce and John Constantine were over at the Bada Boom--if Giselle's in a strop, tell her I'll call.

*chipmunk-y laughter*

I might. Darth Vader was wandering around dark corners in the Wax Museum, strange man that he is, and met with yet another stupid youth from the other island. Really, I believe we're doing them a favor, taking them over. Clearly they're too dumb to live. A lovely wench was also in the museum.

Over at the asylum, the Joker and the lovely Delores had an equally lovely conversation before he caught up with Tyler. The tournament was the topic of conversation between those two, and don't worry, boys, no one here is betting against you.

I couldn't get anyone to take those odds.

And finally, I got to catch up with my dear friend Hector, who stole my ship and marooned me twice. We'll be racing bathtubs in a few hours if you want to cheer me on.

That's all for the morning!

[OOC: Just for fun, folks. You can only hear the radio if you're on Nemesis Island, but I couldn't resist!]
