Fandom Radio, Friday, October 8

Good evening, everyone. I hope you've all had a good week recovering from the presence of your friends and family. Now, let's see how our break week is starting off, shall we?.

School News

The Battles that Changed American History class talked about the Battle of the Alamo, and about how to withstand a siege. With a lot of firepower and prayer, in my experience.

The What It Takes to Be a Badass class talked about the importance of backtalking properly, which I suppose is the difference between being delightfully snarky and earning yourself detention for life. The students paired off and practiced backtalking at each other; Quinn and Wesley tried the assignment, and it seems Quinn had a much easier time at it than Wesley.

In the Demolition and Dynamite class, the students learned how to disarm bombs, which seems to me like an even more useful skill than learning how to make them. The students practiced with bombs loaded with red paint, so they'd know when they failed.

The Science of Deduction class had a movie day/A>, which Rinoa and Ariel took as a "talk about the ski trip" day, and Scully took as a "try to figure out why there's a puppy in class" day. I'm going to assume the puppy was a student, and not part of some canine education program I wasn't told about.

George was reading in the library during his shift today, and the Student Council started to plan homecoming. After classes, the Dealing With Loss club met and discussed whether or not there are any dates that are personally important to them. Everyone got a chance to mingle as they talked about their weekends and wrote down any important dates so they won't be alone on them.

The Apathy Club met again, surprisingly enough, and George wasn't exactly happy about it. She approved of Jenny smoking, although Jono didn't, and there was time for bitching and moaning as well as trying to decide what to make of George's assignment to not show up for the club next week. Rosalind sighed, Squall made insulting noises, and then everyone took part in the "whatever" train again. I don't know whether to shake you all, or laugh, I swear.

Dorm News

Ellie had a cupcake in her room because today was her birthday. Happy birthday, Ellie. Ariel stopped by to ask about the cupcake and was informed of the date's importance, and somehow, this led to Ellie and Ariel talking about how there are two Thanksgivings, one for Americans and one for Canadians. Canada is an entirely different country, trust me. Or ask Constable Fraser. Ellie also got a phone call from Hoshi for the big day, and a visit from her brother Chuck, who brought her a ton of non-cupcake food. Momoko was struggling with her new cell phone until Spock stopped by and fixed it, and Percy literally beat the stuffing out of a practice dummy with his sword. I suppose that's better than beating the stuffing out of a person, if you're that angry.

Town News

Ben was looking for droid parts in the back of Fixer Uppers, Shunsui was drunk and asleep in the park, Vida was visited by a blue canary and broke into song at Covent Garden Flowers, Harper was organizing sweaters at Things Reborn, Mary was enjoying an easy day at The Arms since she didn't have a hotel full of guests this weekend, and Jenny was confused by the appearance of cold-weather gear and skiing equipment at Pixie Dust. At least the store is prepared for fall break, even if she isn't.

Genesis was at the Perk, taking notes on his play, and that seems to have caught the attention of Angua, who stopped and talked to Genesis about the play and him putting it on here in Fandom. John was looking frustrated at the Atlas Gym, and when Jaina stopped by, they teased each other about Jaina taking over John's hated cardio class, and wearing a leotard to do it. Sophie rehung some paintings at the Fourth Dimension, and got a visit from Ino, who made it clear she wasn't there for idle chatter. That doesn't sound like something I should worry about at all, really.

Finally, John took quite a long nap during his shift at the clinic, and Jessica was cranky about having to drink Tru Blood at Caritas, until her focus shifted to Scully and Raven coming in to ask Jessica questions about her date with Scully's brother last weekend.

And those are all the notes I have tonight. Don't forget to start packing if you're coming on the skiing trip next week, and to those who will be staying in town, enjoy the peace and quiet - assuming it stays quiet, of course.
