Fandom Radio, Friday, October 1

Good evening, everyone. This is Principal Winchester, hoping that you've all had a good start to this year's Parents' Weekend. I have quite the daunting stack of notes in front of me, so perhaps I should get started.

*chittering*

You know, I think I will take you up on the rum tonight. Hopefully this won't end with everyone's names blurring together.

School Notes

Before all of our guests arrived, we did have some classes in session. Battles that Changed American History talked about the War of 1812, before ending early for the weekend. The How to be...Strong class was cancelled so the students could have more time with their visitors, although Rosalind was unimpressed with Loki's apparent laziness and irresponsibility at not having class even with this weekend's happenings.

The Demo--actually, let's say Chemistry class--got to put on a fireworks display in the Danger Shop for Kukaku's birthday. Makita's display was especially impressive, it seems, since Proto took the time to compliment her on it, and after the show, there was safely explosive cake for everyone to share. Finally, the Science of Deduction class had twice as many teachers today, since Holmes and his brother were there to talk about roadblocks to an investigation. For their activity, the students paired up and role-played with one person trying to stop an investigation, and the other person trying to get around them. That seems like the sort of thing our students would be very good at.

Kerrigan, Summer, and I spent some time in our respective offices--in case of visitors, I assume. And it looks like there were some clubs that met as well. The Apathy Club met in a deserted room with their leader George, who insisted that she'd only meant the signup as a joke. There was apathetic sitting around as well as apathetic introductions, sort of. Squall said it was stupid to introduce themselves, and got George to admit she'd made the club out of boredom, Rosalind glared at Jono, who was doing his best to look innocent while George approved of how little effort Rosalind was putting forth. Then, the group took a ride on the "Whatever" train, which seems to involve simply saying "Whatever," and Professor Farnsworth was there to supervise, although George told him not to come. Oh, you're going to be an interesting bunch to report on each week, I can already tell.

The Dealing With Loss club also met, led by Ben and Anakin, as well as Ben's father, who's visiting for the weekend. The topic of the week seems to have been simply sharing that Anakin is an excellent listener, and that if students have any problems, they can speak to him--which is entirely true in my experience, for the record. There was mingling and food so people could have the chance to talk. Karla met up with Luke, Ben's father, who teased her about getting ill-advised tattoos. William and Ben talked about how fitting it was to have the first meeting of the club on the start of Parents' Weekend. I know this can be a difficult time for people who don't have anyone coming to visit them, so I agree that the timing was good. Cloud was looking uncomfortable until Ben took some time to talk to him, Elphaba and Ben talked about he needs a flowchart to keep track of his family, Dru offered to let Ben hide in her room if he needs any non-familial time this weekend, and Lion-o wasn't quite as upset about being at the club as the others, since they had pizza.

Dorm Notes

All right then, moving right along. Let's see... Kate was lounging in her room, eating candy and watching movies to celebrate her birthday, which Bod celebrated by bringing her flowers and presents. Jack Priest also called her to wish her a happy birthday, and they talked about Kate being in a video, and about what's been happening lately in Fandom. In the afternoon, Cara and Clark were in her room doing things I'm not discussing students doing, when they were interrupted by two of Cara's visitors. That sounds like it was nicely timed, well done.

Town Notes

I didn't have very much for that section, did I? This larger pile is still looming ahead of me. Tim Desmond received some visitors today, as well as a butler. Impressive. Kukaku was at home, mixing up... supplies for class when she was surprised by her brother, riding a boar. Boat? No, no, that really says boar. Jaina brought her guest back to her apartment, and Rikku was cleaning her and Reno's apartment as she waited for their guests to arrive.

Instead of waiting for people to come and see them, Zack and Ino were on the causeway this afternoon waiting for their portal out of Fandom, to visit Zack's world. Hopefully, their portal didn't interfere with Jack and Bobby waiting on the causeway for their mother, who brought an extra friend along with her for the weekend. Rosalind met up with her guest at the park, and they talked about her research, and meeting her teachers. Tara and Kennedy had dinner with Kennedy's Watcher, Constance, and discussed magic, and Kennedy and Tara's relationship - hopefully not as awkward of a conversation as it sounds. And Genesis' visitor caught up with him at the Boards, where they talked about the island, and Genesis' lack of a fanclub. That sounds like something that could be rebuilt here, if he tried hard enough.

Fixer-Uppers was open until noon, at which point Ben left to go be with his family, Coyote Medicine was all clean and tidy for any visitors who wanted to shop, Harper was looking relieved at Things Reborn, since her parents aren't coming for the weekend, Jenny was burning clothes at Pixie Dust, and I can only imagine how terrible that must have smelled, Delerium was at Groovy Tunes acting like nothing big is going on this weekend, and Hope had a sale going at Turtle and Canary for anyone with visitors.

At the Arms Hotel, Mary was excited about the impending visit of her friend. Meanwhile, Miss Piggy, Kermit, and Rowlf checked in, as well as Sebastian and it's a testament to how long Mary's been here that she was only mildly taken aback by animals that can talk and check into hotels.

Should I have vagued that up a bit? Maybe the rum wasn't such a good idea.

Ahem. Wolfboy checked in as well, and so did Valanice and Rosella, who was indignant at being placed in the bridal suite of the hotel.

Sookie was waiting in the park for her guests, Pam and Eric. When they arrived, Eric and Sookie got right to snarking, and Sookie warned Eric that he wasn't going to be allowed to run amok this weekend. This is true, there's no running amok allowed, unless you'd like to meet our fine police troopers. Pam wasn't entirely pleased to be here, but Sookie wasn't entirely pleased to see her either, so I suppose that all works out? Bobby brought his guests to meet Sookie and her guests, and Karla only brought herself, having decided that Morton and Eric shouldn't be in the same place at the same time.

Kukaku was setting off fireworks at the beach, Squall ran into his father in town, although he wasn't very excited to see him, and Bruce had dinner with his butler Alfred at the Lobster Hut, where they talked about the squirrels and the strangeness of Fandom, and watched Zoidberg flirt with the lobsters until he realized they were for eating.

John Watson was trying, and possibly failing, to write at the clinic, judging from his apparent headdesking. Raven stopped by to apologize for losing her temper and misusing her gifts with him and Sherlock, and he accepted the apology.

As soon as it was dark outside, Jessica was at Caritas to serve all the guests in town. Miss Piggy was confused by the zombies, while Jessica was confused by Miss Piggy, Crystal came in and checked to see if they served alcohol at the bar, a traumatized Zoidberg came in sobbing, which Jessica wasn't sure how to fix, but luckily, Haymitch was easier to please - he wanted something green to drink, so she gave him a glass of Midori. Princess Rosella and Alexander had fruity drinks at his suggestion, and Summer showed up to see if Jessica was having a busy night. It certainly sounds like it was busy to me.

Parents' Weekend: Meet and Greet

Ah, here's what all my notes are for. It looks like I'll be needing a refill on my drink, if you don't mind.

To kick off Parents Weekend, there was a Meet and Greet in the park this afternoon. There was a table of nametags for everyone to use; Valentine told Peter to behave himself as they picked up their nametags, and Silas bypassed the nametags, but luckily, Bod spotted him and recognized him even without the tag. Wesley approached Constance while she was getting her nametag, and Rube lectured Mason on proper behavior for the weekend. Katniss was mostly pleased to see Peeta and Haymitch, and she told them that there are no cameras here, only squirrels. Santana and Brittany were pleased that their names were spelled right on their nametags, so now I can only hope that I pronounced them correctly as well, and The Weirs grabbed their nametags while Harold wondered about the school budget. It's enough to keep us all living in the style to which we've become accustomed, let's leave it at that.

Fraser was at the security table, getting grilled by Billy Scully, and I hope that didn't keep him from getting to the food and drinks at some point. Finn found the food before he found Quinn, and they talked about how she's in Fandom's Glee Club, but isn't on the cheerleading squad. Sam-who-is-apparently-a-girl was disappointed that there was no liquor at the meet and greet, but she was happy to see Mary, sort of. Sort of? I never like seeing that at times like this. Leonardo and Dolf were very happy to see each other, and Anne was nearly tackled by Rilla in her excitement. See, that's more like it. Quil and Embry took advantage of the free food, and caught Jake by surprise, because he wasn't expecting them. Spock was happy to see his mother, and Rosalind was looking out for Elena - her Elena, I think? - but she found Rosalind first.

Jonas got hugs from his little brother Gabriel, Price and Soap gave each other a hard time, which probably means they were very happy to see each other in a manly kind of way, and Goose was surprised to run into Darkstar. Aaron Karev told Alex that he looks really old, Tony Stonem decided not to give Alex the "What are your intentions towards my sister?" speech, and Adrienne Frost tracked Alex down because he's the Student Council president. It doesn't say why she tracked him down though, so I'm going to hope it was for some kind of congratulations, even though I really know better by now.

Goose assured Commander Walsh that everything in Fandom is in order, Effy caught up with Tony and got asked about Alex, and Karla was less than pleased to see Ender's brother, Peter. Ben, meanwhile, was curious about whether or not Peter thought Fandom was interesting. Jono was tracked down by his friend Angelo, as well as someone named Jubilee, to whom Jono offered his bed. Awww, that's very nice. Luke bumped into his father, Hermes, who told Luke that he's been hard to keep track of, Valentine Wiggen and Jaina did a bit of catching up, and Ben said hello to Valentine as well.

Leda introduced Karla to Sparks, Micky, and Wolfboy, and Tim Drake introduced Karla to Dick Grayson. Percy got caught up with his father, after the initial "What are you doing here?" period, Ranon had a very formal conversation with Karla, and Shira was so happy to see Ranon that she nearly tackled him with a hug. Ender didn't have a happy reunion with his brother Peter, because he apparently didn't want to see him, Hobson asked Chloe where to find Tim Desmond, and Chloe was happy to see her friend Tori. Cassidy had a hugging reunion with her mother, while Annja was approached by Garin, who offered to help her deal with Sean's mother.

Savannah came to visit her big brother, Sean, and they talked about art school and how to resist the urge to kill Sean's other guest. Wesley was less than happy to see his father, Scully warned her brother Bill that people might think he's a jerk, and Dick wanted to meet all of Tim Drake's friends, especially Karla. Wesley's father ran into Giles and wanted to know what he was doing here, as they seem to know each other, but at different ages. I'm sure that won't get complicated at all this weekend. Faith was also surprised to see Giles, but she was glad he was there, and Wesley was just fascinated by Giles' presence.

Ben and Karla wondered if anyone would miss Peter if they locked him in the sixth floor safe room, and while it's possible that the answer is no, I think other people might need that room to deal with family members they didn't expect to see this weekend. Jane Smith got caught up with her husband, John, and Gabrielle was very happy to see Xena, who surprised her by being here. Bobby got to tell his guest, Warren, about the other Warren who's a student here, and apparently older, and he marveled at Val's wardrobe, which she said didn't have any clothes that were practical. Dick Grayson was amazed by how young Roy looks, Dinah - Roy's guest, not the alumni - surprised Roy with her arrival, although he was really happy to see her, and Cassidy asked Raven if she'd be up for meeting Cassidy's mother, since Cassidy really wanted that to happen once her mother arrived.

Leia met Luke Skywalker, who's her twin but not really, and they talked about Fandom weirdness and how strange it is for Leia to see Jaina. Anakin was much less than thrilled at seeing Ferus Olin, and they settled right in to snarking at each other, and Tseng got huffed at by Rosalind's Elena, who insulted him and told him all his people are stupid, which is better to see than one of my students saying such things, I suppose. Karla got her Warrens mixed up, and didn't realize she wasn't talking to the one who's her boyfriend until after they'd kissed, and Kate made the same mistake, talking to Warren about a date they went on that he doesn't know because he's Bobby's guest, not a student here. This is all fairly innocent confusion, so I don't feel bad about laughing a little.

Zekk, Jaina's guest, said Fandom looked more normal than he expected, so she told him all about the unicorns from yesterday. Bobby introduced Kate to Val, who seemed to think Kate's name was Princess Valhalla Hawkwind, and declared herself to be in Kate's service, much to Kate's surprise. Bobby also introduced the two Warrens to each other, and told Rachel Summers that Cable might have been shopping for toddler toys, instead of being at the meet and greet. Hey, I will have you know that buying toys is a very time consuming process, especially if you have said toddler with you and she refuses to pass a toy without touching it. I'm just saying.

Sean's mother finally found him, claiming he'd been in hiding, and Lindsay's parents found her, and made plans to talk to Lindsay's teachers. Alice was bouncy and looking excited, and was greeted by her equally excited niece. Crystal and Maximus, Medusa and Blackagar's siblings, were bickering while looking for said siblings, and K-Mart met up with her guest Alice, who looks an awful lot like Kerrigan.

There were more nametags further down in the park, to keep people from getting too clumped together once the big crowds started. Nobby didn't see the point in having a nametag, since he already has a badge, Kitty found Scott, and was very happy to see him, although the same could not be said for Rachel, who was confused because she knows a different Scott. Tinny, Jake Doyle's niece, was excited to be in the United States, and Rodney was excited that there was a crazy amount of food, which was there John Sheppard found him. Wolfboy got tackled by Leda, hopefully in a playful way, Rowlf and Kermit got hugs from Robin, and Rinoa barely said hello to her father. The differences in people's reactions this weekend never ceases to amaze me. Nico was nervous about seeing his father, Hades, especially since he brought Demeter and Persephone with him, and all they did was complain. Daria was greeted by Jane, who assured her that her only scars so far are mental, and Quinn was as ready as she could be to deal with her mother.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is the end of my notes, finally. I hope all of our guests have a safe weekend, and remember folks, your loved ones and your not-so-loved ones are only here for two more days. Good night!
