Fandom Radio, August 12

Evening, Fandom! Isn't it a nice evening, too?

. . . well, relatively. Compared to last Thursday. Oh, come on. What's a little Celine Dion compared to last week?

*chorus of squirrels humming "It's All Coming Back To Me Now"*

Don't answer that.

Classes

The Pen Is Mightier's students had to answer it, though, if they could hear the lecture over the sound of singing bugs, infesting the simulated mansion they explored en route to answering the question of what lengths they would go to to avoid being stuck with a lifetime of Celine Dion, all in the name of having less than positive experience to draw on as writers. I wonder what Rick's answer to the question is?

Battlefield Tactics students didn't have class today, but Kerrigan left them a stack of gun care manuals to read. Self-Defense had an easy day, too, with Faith turning everybody loose in a Danger Shop arcade. Great Trials in History had a lecture on Louis XVI and the French Revolution, then discussed regicide and coups, and practical applications of the questions. Alex Cabot wasn't in the best mood, but who would be with the bugs? Inventing for Dummies . . . oh. Covered voids, wormholes, and portals. If students spaced out during the lecture or playing with Portalocity equations, I can't blame them . . . because that sounds really complicated to me. The TA was AWOL, but Professor Farnsworth was around.

Arching 101 . . . got to learn, and brainstorm about, better vengeance schemes. Really, 21 and 24?

Anemone, on the other hand, was busy cleaning up the library -- and taking advantage of Henry's absence to clean up his office, too.

Loki's video-gaming office hours had to get put on pause for a visit from Karla, who apologized for missing class thanks to . . . really? Nearly getting sacrificed? Fraser was busy making last-minute wedding (eeeeeeee!) plans, Aquaman was too excited to work on his autobiography, and Drake -- Drake, how could you? Sing Celine Dion? Karla dropped by his office to explain about her sacrificial hijinks. Price was reworking his syllabus, Piper spent her office hours being very displeased with the most recent Top Chef results, and oh, I am right there with you, Piper. Anakin was doing things with electricity in his office that are not very environmentally-conscious at all, and neither Raven nor Jaina, as far as my reports indicate, disapproved of it. Compact fluorescent bulbs, people, I cannot stress this enough.

Dorms

Zack and Ino's snuggle time this morning took a little turn for the fluffy when Zack turned into a puppy. Awwwww. Warren turned into a bird, which sounds adorable but turned out to be disastrous for Hinata's smoothie when she had to keep her cat from eating him, but Karla showed up just in time to see what was going on. And hopefully help poor Hinata out . . . I'm guessing she did, since she was cleaning her room and keeping an eye on Warren the bird. Dinah came by with chocolate -- an effective bribe to get someone to talk about their latest slew of misadventures, as are burgers, which Ben brought to get her to tell him what she'd been up to, so it's not surprising that when Tim came by, Karla wanted to know if he was there to scold her too.

Meanwhile, up in the third floor common room, Claudia was trying to find out if movies with bouncing puppets and glam rockers in tight pants would cure boredom. Well, they bring Jonas and Cloud to the common room to reach a consensus about how the movie doesn't make any sense. But it's pretty, isn't it?

Triela's practice at the shooting range wasn't going so well; she snapped at James when he asked her if she was okay, and Rosalind was a little less delicate, wanting to know if Triela was stupid for handling guns in her state. And up on the roof, James was sulking tonight.

Campground

Let's see what was going on in our temporary rustic retreat, huh? Jaina was at the Locust campfire making s'mores, talking to Loki about whether there might be bloodshed in cabin living conditions. She told Dani Davis about her theory that more s'mores equal less Celine earworms, heard about last weekend from Price who also caught up with Millie, invited Millie to join the s'mores party, and talked to John Sheppard for the first time since her trip home.

Much later tonight, Barney and Robin were having a drunken post-bachelorette party party at the Earwig campfire. Drunken discussion of insects ensued.

Town

Speaking of insects . . . Aphrodite was trying to bugproof Dite's Decadent Delights. Jane spent the night at Strokes of Genius, and would it be too much of a stretch to wonder if her reported bad mood had anything to do with those stupid insects? Helen was hiding out at the Gig, too, also thanks to a bad mood, the squirrels tell me. Dimitri and Jessi both spent the night at Atlas Gym, too. Millie closed Book Haven early to head to the cabins after Principal Winchester's radio announcement about the bugs.

Shunsui was asleep at Turtle and Canary, and it takes some impressive tuning-out skills to sleep through that awful insecty singing noise. Either that or the earplugs Scully was handing out at the clinic. Well, anyone at the church hoping to hear the sermon Castiel downloaded off the Internet wouldn't have been able to hear it over the sound of the kittens eating the bugs.

. . . ew. Poor Hoshi and Gunther had to flee the Arms hotel because of the bugs too. Just keep telling yourself they're not two feet long, okay?

Lindsay was a little cautious about getting to work at Nast Sporting Goods today -- considering last week that's understandable -- but set up a football display when she got there. Weird American football. Who knew all it took to freak Ralph at the trooper station out was to give him coffee? Apparently, Dani Reese knew.

Azula and Dinah didn't let the bugs put a damper on their spa day, but Cloud's day had some kind of damper on it since he was out brooding at the beach.

Francine, on the other hand, was enjoying the Nanaimo bars at Luke's Diner -- the Nanaimo bars are fantastic, if I do say so myself. Dinah certainly seemed to think so, when she stopped in to talk to Francine about classes and last weekend, and Katchoo hoped Francine saved some for her.

. . . I can always make more, you guys! Anyway. Wallace's first night on the job at Caritas was spent hitting on Tino and listening to John Sheppard's complaints about the music. And looking just like Chuck Bass.

Well, that's nice and normal, isn't it? And now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go off and hopefully find somewhere that isn't going to make me hum under my breath until I feel an inexplicable need to beat on my chest with my own hand. Honestly, can we just pretend she isn't from my country?
