Fandom Radio - Wednesday, July 14, 2010

"Ah, Fandom. I love these little moments we share. This is Hawkeye Pierce and you're listening to WTFH pirate radio. If you need your recommended daily dose of gossip, you've tuned in to the right station.

School

We're going to start with the library that never gets any love. Dan was reading the Encyclopedia Wiki until Alexander came in and had him pegged as Blackagar. While they had their doppelganger issues worked out, Henry listened to some opera music.

Competitive Cooking cooked up a competitive storm with red apples. In addition to the cooking that you would expect to go on in a cooking class, there was an apology from Rilla about missing last week's class and two TAs, Angela and Hoshi, who were eager to sample the wares.

Beaching It covered sunscreen safety. Burns are burns, whether they come from the sun or fire. Don't get skin cancer. Sheppard covered the basics of SPFs and burns, which can bleed and lead to carcinomas that can kill you, and everyone was forced - FORCED, I say - to put sunscreen on to each other. Is this class for college credit? Because they spent the rest of the hour relaxing on the beach. All except for Rose and Sheppard who talked about what happened between him and Jaina.

T-E-E-V-E-E for Beginners talked about people. In relation to TV, I'm guessing. Aha! Correct. One for Hawkeye. People being couch potatoes was the topic of the day and the activity too. And the subject of the program they were watching as well! Mitchell was there after class to talk to Chloe, Kate and Rilla who was still apologizing.

Contact Sports was taken out to the ball game, courtesy of the Danger Shop. Anders explained America's favorite pasttime and then? Plaaaaaaaay ball! But it wasn't all fun and games. They had to work out what baseball skills could be used for other than baseball. Softball. Cricket, if you're English. Rounders, if you're English and from the 19th century. Anders looked stunning his baseball uniform while he supervised.

Heroes and Villains talked about beliefs and if they make a person good or evil. The standard clash of the big names came out in the lecture about God vs Satan and the discussion turned to whether someone being a Satanist would change your opinion about them. TA Jono was there and quiet, as ever, while Loki dealt with apologies from Kate for missing class due to being a cat. That has to be Fandom's equivalent of 'the dog ate my homework.'

Carpe Diem didn't sieze the day, because they were too busy talking about regrets. I've had a few. So have the students, it seems. I don't know if that was the case for Drake or TA Didi, but if they don't, they haven't lived!

Other than classes and the library, there were only two teachers holding office hours. Farnsworth was fixing a microwave so he could cook Pop Tarts faster. I thought I could smell burning cardboard. Meanwhile, Iroh - who's here for all your school counselling needs - had a visit from Azula, who doesn't like roast duck. Apparently that particular detail needed to be shared with the whole island.

Dorms!

Because recapping the official events isn't enough for you people. You need to know about their personal lives too. Let's see if anyone did anything sordid today.

Ariel was in the Fifth Floor Common Room, completely enamored by the silverware drawer. I know I get distracted by the light reflecting off the shiny knives and forks all the time. Rilla came in search of someone to check her hair for stowaway apples, which Ariel was only too happy to help with in exchange for Rilla telling her about dating customs at home. Christian joined Rilla to find out what Ariel thinks forks are actually for, since she had handfuls of them. Maybe she plans to sell them on the black silverware market. Leda said hello, but I bet she was there for a silverware sting operation.

Later, in the evening, the same common room was taken over by Sookie and her baking bonanza.

Outside, the group involving magic and being supportive played Twister. Peter Bishop, Alex Russo, Robin, Kennedy, Katchoo (bless you), Warren, Scully and Tim Drake all helped themselves to the appropriately themed cookies on offer. Twister, which I'm told refers to the game and not anything to do with the dance the Twist, was enjoyed by all. Alex Russo and Robin talked about who was going to man the spinner. Warren and Karla flirted over a Twister mat. The Twister Masters were there for any questions. Raven and Scully talked a little about the background of the group. Tara wasn't participating because of a bruised ankle. Karla was doing her best supervising impersonation. Francine and Katchoo discussed alternative uses for a Twister mat. The kind that involve the bedroom. Ooh la la. Hello Twister.

It seems like everyone is using the lazy summer days to catch up on some much needed sleep. Amongst the drowsy nappers were Zack, Bod, Dru, Scully and Jason, who wrote a letter home after he woke up.

I'd just like to point out how creepy that last batch of notes were. Fandom, the squirrels are watching you sleep.

They're also listening in on your phone calls, like Hurley's call to Hoshi, and they're probably keeping track of your internet habits like they did with Kate.

Town

Mitchell and Reno shared a beer and talked about roommates. Dani Davis made herself a cocktail while she watched Toddlers and Tiaras.

Cally was in dire need of a hug at MCA. Maybe all she needed as a cup of coffee at the Perk. Ashley and Price met there to plan their class, and Aravis met Ben there to catch up on old times.

Jaina and Rose knew how to spend summer the best way, relaxing at the beach. Elena joined the revelry as well.

And now we have the business roll call! These fine, upstanding Fandom businesses need your custom! Go out, spend some money and support the local economy before it disappears forever!

Ino was twitchy at Wellspring, Dandelion warned that she was licensed to use deadly force against Groovy Tunes customers, Lion-o and the cook came up with a specials list full of all-bacon dishes at Luke's Diner. Pounce wasn't letting Beka know what was going on with him at Atlas Gym. The delightufl Shelley was excited about new merchandise at Pixie Dust. Hinata visited Alex Cabot at Cabot and Associates to get some legal advice for Hayley.

Hannibal did his best to toast Hot Pockets at Caritas. Angua was entertained by the toasting for a while, but eventually had to resort to alcohol. Kate was similarly entranced until she got Hannibal talking about his and Angela's relationship. Big boss Chuck Bass wasn't too impressed with cooking in the bar. If there was hot finger food, I'd be there for lunch every day.

Out in Ye Olde Woods, Zack went for a walk. Hiccup and Toothless, on the other hand, went looking for something. The notes don't say what. Ask your local dragon for updates.

That's it. No clinic news, which is always good news, and nothing else of note. Not that most of this was of note. I leave you now with a marathon of 1980s and 1990s power ballads, starting with what I'm told is a much-loved song by revered Canadian artist Celine Dion.

Goodnight!"
