Fandom Radio, June 10 (Thursday)
Hi, everyone! Lacey Burrows back with you on WTFH on this Thursday night, and did you miss me?
*awkward silence punctuated by occasional sounds of acorn-nibbling*
. . . well, gosh, no need to be so enthusiastic about it, guys. I mean, really. Rein it in.
. . . no, really, did you?
*more awkward acorn-nibbling*
Classes
Laser Tag Adventures got Island Prison for movie day today. Doesn't everybody love a good movie day, especially if there's explosions? Or possibly burned-down roadside corn stands, if you have reduced standards -- never mind. Rick was looking for plot holes in the movie, and his TA Alex might have been, but if she is nobody's telling. Being Marooned learned about and practiced foraging for food, which in this case meant mangoes, papayas, durian, and live crabs. The crabs were mostly safe from a culinary fate, though. So was the durian, and I've got one poor traumatized squirrel here who wants you all to know that yes, it really does smell that bad . . . oh, stop it, now you're exaggerating. I know it smells bad, but it's not making your fur fall out. Kurt and Kate went for the tanning option, and the resident pirate teacher, AKA my boss, was available for any pirate-teacher needs.
Logical Fallacies were lectured on and discussed ad hominem attacks and how they're based on character flaws --
*chittering*
-- very funny. As I was saying. Hinata and Cindy were on hand to help cut through those logical snarls. And today in Anatomy of a Trial, students learned how to cross-examine witnesses, discussed closing arguments, and planned for the last week of class. Karla was a note-taking fiend of a TA, and after class Alex Cabot and Hinata discussed how to set up a system of laws. Faith gave her Self-Defense class a progress report on how she thinks they're doing, and even Self-Defense gets a lecture before warm-ups, where Kennedy told Chloe she looks like she's less likely to put someone's eye out, and wow, you really fail at positive reinforcement, and there were video clips of sparring matches to watch before actual sparring took place. Kennedy and Alice squared off with Faith, who was available to talk to and probably a better choice than Kennedy the TA.
All-Sexuality Support -- no, I'm not calling it that, squirrels. I'm not twelve. They got a movie day today, too. Teachers with office hours included Hawkeye who was putting a golf ball in the hallway outside his office, Fraser who was taking notes in his, Loki who was drawing, Drake who was listening to loud music while, uh, obtaining all the episodes of that cute show about the singing kids, and Summer who was playing around on Facebook. Anakin had office hours too, and wasn't in a great mood, but Leia came by to ask him why he was in such a bad mood. That's either impressively reckless or insane, I don't know which.
. . . and then there was Mick, who made use of his office hours by turning into a bird.
Dorms
Jaina watched the sun rise from the roof of Snow Monster cabin, and at a slightly less insane hour Kate was out at the main campfire enjoying a Pop-Tart and no actual fire, and some . . . scintillating conversation with Hannibal about cake for breakfast, inflatable boyfriends, and tattoos on butts. You wacky kids these days. Sookie got a phone call from home, and didn't seem too happy about it, but still met up with TIm Drake in the fifth floor common room to teach him a little about shielding from telepaths.
Bobby was roasting Twinkies at the Laser Bear campfire with Harper, who wanted to make homemade Twinkies with marshmallow fluff and talked to Kyle about dubious Twinkie recipes and making her own clothes. Bobby is a campfire non-traditionalist, as Tim Drake found out when he asked about the Twinkies and told Bobby about getting lost in the preserve with Jason last weekend. Peter Bishop got a can of Coke and discussed Fandom food-sharing karma with Bobby, played the 'What Am I Thinking' game with Sookie after assuring her that no, he didn't manage to blow himself up, talked to Tim about progress on the gremlin-wrangling front, and heard from Lindsay that he shouldn't rule out the possibility of buried treasure in Fandom. Sookie told Bobby she'd laugh at him if his Twinkie exploded . . .
*chittering*
Oh, behave yourselves. Kyle and Bobby planned some pranks. That the squirrels overheard you talking about, so well done, boys. Sookie and Kyle talked about how food in common places in Fandom tends to have a crowd-attracting effect, kind of like a much larger and less smelly fly trap. Tim and Kyle met and determined that they're both planning on sticking around Fandom after the summer; Lindsay promised Kyle there was enough junk food for everyone, but Kyle thought Bobby could eat it all and then some. Lindsay also formally met Bobby, and told him she's now met all of the Drakes on the island.
And back over in Harpy Cabin, Momoko's cat was acting weird because of the pigeon that showed up in her alcove.
Town
Sophie was at Fourth Dimension with an annoying reality show for company; Hiccup used his first day on the job at Stark Industries to play with the holographic display; Annja was in a good mood at Coyote Medicine; Hoshi was at the Arms, asking Gunther for fried chicken; Lindsay was rearranging at Nast Sporting Goods; Elena was distracted on the job at Pixie Dust.
Scully was at the clinic, geeking out until Henry came in to get a cut on his back looked at. Millie had a quiet day at Book Haven until Captain Price came by to distract her. Helen's shift at The Gig included a visit from Hinata, who got invited to go riding. Jack Priest's day at Cabot and Associates was a green one -- since everything was covered in grass. Except, I assume, for him. And Emma, who came in and complained about people being loud. Do the cabins have a lack of noise control? Kennedy brought Tara cake at the Magic Box, and there was talk about this weekend and a hotel room. You know, I make pretty good cake too. *skeptical chittering* It is too better!
Max's combat training for adults class learned about punch -- oh, punching things. I was wondering how soft drinks came into this. Castiel was at the church, giving a sermon about lying and politics which apparently confuse him, and talking to Chuck Bass about confusion, kittens, and sleep. Possibly all at once? The word 'fuzzy' would be three times as appropriate. Zack and Dandelion were up on the Rocky Bits in search of a pet rock. Because Everything But the Monkey . . . wouldn't sell Dandelion a monkey. That's . . . oddly unsurprising. And yet. Triela and Scully were at the Perk this evening, enjoying caffeinated beverages and talking about people-watching in D.C. As hobbies go, that's . . . not the most unusual I've heard.
And over at Caritas, Chuck was having problems with broken air conditioning, but that didn't stop Drake from singing and getting a Manhattan when he ordered a surprise drink. And Jaina offered to fix the air conditioning anyhow.
Air conditioning sounds nice, actually . . . I think I'll head home and enjoy that myself. Good night, everybody! For WTFH, this has been Lacey Burrows, signing off. Bye!
