Fandom Radio, Monday, March 15

Sam: Good evening, Fandom. I hope everyone had a good, normal weekend.

Andy: In other words, you hope everyone left the island for the weekend?

Sam: No, I hope everyone had a good time here while I left the island.

Andy: Well, good time is a lot easier to have around here than normal.

Sam: True. So, I hope everyone had a good time this weekend.

Andy: Did you?

Sam: I did, yeah. I went to New York to see my boyfriend and--

--and I'm being texted. Sorry, I thought I turned that off. Heh, I think Peter knows he's being talked about.

Andy: What did he say?

Sam: That he misses me and...other things I'm not reading out loud.

Andy: Yeah, like... Can you even do that?

Sam: That is something only Peter gets to know. Here, give me some notes to read before I get embarrassed or something.

School News

Sam: Outdoor Fitness and Strategy played hide and seek out in the rain. It was wet, but fun, so I've got no complaints.

Build Your Own Philosophy talked about rules, in general I think, and everyone got to suggest one rule they'd like to implement. Either before or after class, Ino brought Tyler coffee, along with make-up work, and asked him about timeline issues.

World Mythology learned about the trickster Anansi, and discussed Anansi and other gods and tricksters.

Japanese Etiquette and Tradition had some tea while being treated to a song and dance number done by Mr. Algren, who was bitten by a gremlin and thought he was a Geisha. I hope you all brought your phones to class for that.

*ding ding*

Speaking of phones...uh, sorry, I don't know how he got into this mood.

Andy: I'm wondering if it had something to do with the weekend.

Sam: Maybe? We had a very, uh, productive weekend together.

Andy: If that text reflected the weekend, I'd say it was anatomically improbable as well.

Sam: That one actually isn't as impossible as it might sound. I mean, you know, if I ever did that sort of thing. Which I don't. Anyway, Horror 101 talked about phobias, and got an assignment to pick a phobia and find a movie or book about it. Then, they watched a movie about women who camp in a cave and get killed. So, I guess that covers fear of camping? Jack Priest stopped by to talk to Mitchell, and heard about his new house, and Kate asked Mitchell if he wanted some cake. I guess we've moved on from pie after yesterday.

Gabrielle was in a great mood at the library, where Mr. DeTamble was shelving books and listening to his iPod. Mr. Halpert had office hours today, and used the time to send a fax and work on a Plan-with-a-capital-P. That doesn't sound at all foreboding. Equally scary? Mr. Stinson in his office using a Crosby bobble head as a voodoo doll. Remember folks, when there's trouble, these are the people in charge.

Andy: Would that even work? I mean, I'd think if it did, it would just make the person you were trying to curse start bobbing their head around uncontrollably.

Sam: I'm just going to hope it didn't really work. I'm not sure if I want Mr. Stinson to have that much power.

Dorm News

Andy: Over in the dorms, Raven and Dinah met in Raven's room before taking a trip where squirrels couldn't follow. Huh. Maybe I should try texting her. What do you think Sam?

Sam: I think if you text her with something that isn't designed to make her turn red, you'll be doing better than Peter is right now.

Andy: I'd keep it to stuff that's a little less... pretzelly. It was Monday morning, so Arthur was in the salle working out his aggression. Dinah asked if they could stick to sticks for the day and Arthur told her the session was going to be even harder just for her asking that. Whoa, sounds like someone needs to chill out some. I can suggest some things that can help with that if you want.

Sam: You're welcome to suggest them, but I don't think someone like Arthur would be up for your kind of relaxation.

Andy: I'd say that's exactly his problem. In the fourth floor common room tonight, Helen was letting her fennec fox Kinah run around the room. Jack Burton asked if Kinah was a fellow student, and Helen told him no, and said it was a pet she'd had for a month now and that she will never get bigger than a pound and a half. Aw, so it's like a mini-fox!

Puck called the fox a weird-looking dog, but Helen corrected him. Helen also gave Rose a lot more detail about the fox which made Rose say she sounded like an encyclopedia. Nothing wrong with knowing your stuff.

Puck and Rose bantered flirtily when he pointed out the dog was weird-looking but the girl he was talking to was hot.

Jaina wondered how the fox didn't topple over from the weight of her own ears, and got offered mac and cheese from Rose when asked if her stomach was growling that loudly. Puck was amazed Jaina was still learning things despite senioritis and told her she should be drinking and doing bong hits in Vegas right about now. Y'know, you don't have to be in Vegas to do bong hits...

Sam: And you don't have to be in Vegas to drink either.

Andy: Exactly. Zayne got greeted by Jaina, told Puck he spent the morning hiding in the woods in the rain, and asked Rose to remind him not to hide in the mud again until after he got his hair cut. He told Helen he had bad luck with TV remotes and she asked him if he had trouble with all kinds of tech things, but he said he managed spaceships just fine. Which is cool, but doesn't help you change the channel.

Clark thought the fox was a leftover from yesterday's pi-rats, but Helen corrected him and explained she was her pet fox. Jaina told Clark that her rat yesterday jumped out of a pie, Puck told Clark he hoped the rats come back because he wanted more pie, and Rose thought the pi-rats would make cool pets even if they'd bite her. If they're jumping out of pies, you'd think they'd be biting the pie instead of people.

Sam: That would be a good assumption but remember, there are very few things here that work the way they're supposed to.

Town News

Sam: Gunn was staying out of trouble at Cabot and Associates, Worf was working with katas in the meditation area at Wellspring Arms, and Ender was working on some video technology at Stark Industries when Ben came by for his usual coffee visit.

Thanks to Zack, the special at Cafe Fina was vegetarian meatloaf, a perfectly acceptable alternative to the version with actual meat in it. Lacey was late getting to Luke's Diner thanks to Daylight Savings Time. And Karla was practicing with the cash register at Dite's Decadent Delights when Francine came by looking for clothing, and they ended up having an awkward conversation about what Karla was ringing up. I'd laugh, but I can't even go into that store without feeling dirty, so I guess I can't blame them for awkwardness.

*ding ding*

I can't believe he's still texting me at this hour...except now he's sending pictures. Oh my god.

Andy: I don't think you can get pictures like that and still feel awkward going into Dite's.

Sam: Stop looking! I can't believe him, I swear. Makita was reading up on mixology at Pixie Dust, Dani was looking forward to getting rid of the farm animals at The Gig, Mirax searched Things Reborn for rats before settling in for work, and Claudia was reading a book on quantum physics at Book Haven. Okay, that's really nerdy, and coming from me, that's saying something. Holiday Grove was celebrating the Ides of March. You know, as much as that sort of thing can be celebrated. Ino got some studying time in at the clinic after the nurses made sure she was all healed up after last week.

And Adrian was late for his shift at Caritas, another victim of Daylight Savings Time. Dimitri was there to keep an eye on Adrian, as usual, and they talked about finding good vodka, and how Dimitri spent his weekend. Mr. DeTamble came in for a drink and some adult companionship - of the friendly, platonic kind that is - and Ms. Gale was happy to see him out and about. She also hit up Adrian for a drink while Mr. Halpert hit up Tino and then talked to Adrian about Daylight Savings Time and losing an hour. Mr. Dukes also came in for a beer, and was amazed at how much work Adrian can get Tino to do for him.

Andy: Well obviously Tino doesn't have someone texting him dirty pictures while he's working.

Sam: No, I think Tino can work without anyone trying to distract him like that.

*ding ding*

I'm not even going to look right now, because whatever that is, I have a feeling you shouldn't see it.

Andy: Have you ever thought of maybe turning your phone off while we're on the air?

Sam: I...yeah, I should probably do that from now on. Uh, I don't have any more notes, do you?

Andy: Not from the squirrels.

Sam: Then I guess we can go. You can get in touch with Raven and I can...you know.

Andy: Have phone sex?

Sam: No! That's not what I meant at all! I--never mind. Have a good night, everyone.
