Fandom Radio, Monday, December 21
Sam: Good evening everyone, and happy almost-Christmas.
Andy: Yeah. And happy Solstice or Yule as well.
Sam: Oh, it looks like it was a very happy Yule, judging from these notes. The holidays that have drinking are always good.
Andy: That's the spirit, Sam.
Sam: I meant for the people who celebrate them. Of course those would be your favorite holidays too.
Andy: I like pretty much any holiday, actually.
Sam: Does that mean this is your favorite time of year?
Andy: It didn't used to be when I was younger. But I try to make the best of it now.
Sam: Well, all joking aside, I hope you have a good holiday this week, whatever you do.
Andy: Likewise, Sam.
Sam: And now that we've been dorks at each other, I'll get these notes started, before the squirrels start making faces.
School Notes
Sam: I think the only note we have here is that Constable Fraser was in his office today, in spite of the break. That's the Mountie work ethic at work, I think.
Dorm Notes
Sam: Jack sent out an e-mail about Emma's surprise birthday party...which I'm assuming isn't a surprise anymore, since it was this evening. And Jaina and Sookie did some training by the beach. That's a good spot, no matter how cold it might be outside.
Since it's the Winter Solstice, there was a Yuletide party outside the dorms, complete with a bonfire to keep everyone warm. Merlin was wrapped in a blanket, and Arthur teased him about being cold. Considering how long we all spent outside in the cold this morning, I don't think anyone could be mocked for wanting a blanket if they had to be outside again.
Andy: Coats work really well too, y'know.
Sam: But blankets can be shared between multiple people.
Andy: So can coats if they're big enough.
Sam: ...okay, I'll give you that. Merlin also talked to Effy, although he was on his way to drunk then, and they talked about not trusting everything you come across on the internet. Merlin and Francine talked about Merlin's new owl, and his attempts to keep Arthur from teaching it to hunt, and Merlin talked to Raven about how the fire has to stay lit all night to make sure the sun will rise in the morning. I don't think you need to worry about that, but I certainly won't begrudge anyone their rituals.
Andy: Wouldn't the owl already know how to hunt? Being an owl and all?
Sam: Maybe? I don't think I've ever really been near an owl before. I'd figure you have to train them like any other animal.
Andy: Well an owl that can't hunt is probably going to starve so I figure it's probably pretty much instinct. You don't see too many owls getting take out or anything.
Sam: Then I guess Arthur won't have any trouble if Merlin caves. Beka and George cuddled by the fire, and talked about George deciding not to go home for the break. Karla and Merlin talked about the winter holiday back where Karla's from, and how she's sad to be missing it since she's here. That's how a bunch of people feel this time of year, I can guarantee it. Merlin explaied the Yuletide celebration to Helen, and told her the drinking part was mandatory. Bad, bad Merlin.
Tara talked to Merlin about her interpretation of midwinter, and he told her about his toy owl becoming real, which made her wonder if he was drunk. The notes say yes, so there you go. Merlin tried to explain texting to Jono, but it apparently didn't go very well. Raven and Jono talked about the snow, and how it's pretty but way too cold. Unfortunately here, if it wasn't cold, it'd be rain.
Didi talked to Jono about his drunk texts and how funny they were, and Tara drunkenly flirted with Kennedy. See, this is what happens when you tell people the drinking is mandatory, Merlin. Morgana and Merlin talked about how convenient it is that so many holidays all happen at this time of the year. Yeah, convenient is the word. Really. And Angela was there supervising the underage drinking, although Merlin tried to swear to her that it was just ale, and not that dangerous.
Town Notes
Andy: Down in town, Lacey was writing poetry about Farmville at the diner, Millie had her shift at the clinic, and Alex Russo was playing with spells at the Magic Box. Mina was not in the holiday spirit at the MCA, but Loki seemed to be as he was decorating a tiny Christmas tree at the MHA. Dani was brushing tinsel off the horses at the Gig... and I don't know if that means she was in the holiday spirit or not.
Sam: She might have been forced into the holiday spirit whether she liked it or not, with the tinsel.
Andy: Now that would be a pretty demanding holiday spirit. There was another birthday party at Caritas that Adrian had to deal with, this time for Emma Frost, which was held in the lounge.
Jack Priest and Alex Karev congratulated themselves on their party planning skills and decided to make Emma a party hat. Jack also admitted to Karla he promised to spoil Emma. Okay that's kinda sweet.
Alex, meanwhile, was asking Rose if there was going to be any kissing and got shot down. Maybe if you made her a party hat...
There were presents and cake, and Emma held court and talked with Karla about boys and with Beka about the fact that Emma is trouble. Alex gave her the birthday hat and even convinced her to put it on. Did you get pictures?
Sam: I think getting pictures of someone who describes herself as trouble wearing a potentially embarrassing hat might have been a little dangerous for the squirrels.
Andy: Maybe, but you'd think they'd be up to taking risks for the story.
Sam: Only if there's more rum to pay them with.
Andy: Bet there's at least some ale left at the Yuletide party.
Sam: We could let the squirrels go back there. I don't have any more notes, do you?
Andy: Nope. Nor pictures.
Sam: Maybe we'll get good pictures next week.
Andy: We'll have to wait and see I guess.
Sam: Until then, I think I speak for both of us when I say we hope everyone has a good holiday.
Andy: Yeah. And happy Solstice or Yule as well.
