Fandom Radio, Saturday, May 9th

Hello, Fandom! We seem to have a dearth of crankypants journalism teachers slash radio broadcasters right now, but there's still plenty to report, so I'm taking the job for tonight. I'm Ben Reilly. You may know me from Things Reborn or those times the guy's made me open up Caritas. It's nice to meet all of you. And for those of you who are listening to WTFH radio for the first time tonight, just remember: we're watching you. Beware the squirrels.

Hahaha, I'm not joking. You'll see!

School, which is not quite in session yet.

Statistically speaking you were probably aware of this already, but there was a welcome picnic for the new students and teachers on the front lawn of the school today. Siblings met siblings. Roommates met roommates. Students and teachers met other teachers. And was there mingling? Oh, you better believe there was. And if you don't believe it, you are a strangely skeptical person.

Let's start with the sibs!

Gabrielle fell out of the sky and nearly landed on her big sis, Peyton. What a way to start the broadcast! Karla found big sib Sam. Parker found Treila despite the fact that SOMEONE wasn't wearing her nametag. I'm not naming names, but that's only because she wasn't wearing a tag. Liir helped little sis Rachel get acclimated. And Dinah met Yakko who is, according to the squirrels, insane. But they're complimentary about the insanity. See, silver lining.

Naomi told Zack that he'd get used to the wacky. Effy and K-Mart had a very polite first meeting. Tony and Eleanor met up. And Jack told Savannah that he'd like to find out some of Fandom's special surprises for himself. Oh, Jack, Jack, Jack. You poor fool.

Eowyn told Griffin about classes. Alex was friendly with Fiona. Adora warned Jon about things like harpies, zombies, and Deadpool's PJs and I think I have a new favorite student on the island because that, my friends, is classic.

Worf and Morgana met and discussed Arthur. Prince Edward and Lady Elspeth had a royal court of siblinghood. Angela convinced little bro Tim to go shirtless, which is rather less regal than the previous standard. Leto was brutally honest about the wackiness with little sis Claire and if I can say? Tear that band aid off. It's better this way.

Leda looked for her big sib but it doesn't look like the squirrels have any information on her finding whomever the negligent person was. Tsk, tsk. Esme... well, she made an impression on Priestly. I'll be kind and not bring up how poor the impression was. Ino got to explain some basics to Jennifer, including the fact that boys and girls sometimes room together and have to halt their hormones for the sake of decency.

Hurley found out that sibbing for Valentine was going to be a cake walk. Blair and George discovered that they don't really have much in common. Maron was excited to meet big sib Marco. Chie met Francine and cookies. And Shilo met Merlin and his shiny new beard. Disclaimer: Merlin's beard may not be shiny.

Ellie was caught offguard by Kaylee's specificity in asking where and when she's from. Ben had to explain the coed roomie thing to Kenshin. Diana met her big sib, Claudia and her cat. She had the luck of getting Claudia's take on Fandom wacky which is, according to the squirrels, pretty special. Alex annoyed big sis Tahiri. And Jaina gave Virgil the lowdown on washing machine strikes.

Let's head to the roommate meetups next.

Marco promised Parker that he'd clean up the side of the room that was now hers. Claire was excited about having a Fandom vet like Dinah as a roommate. Rachel was happy to find out that they could have pets in the dorms, like her roomie Diana's cat. Zack and Karla made plans to hang out before he met his roomie, Tim, who wasn't entirely thrilled.

Elspeth... I'm so sorry, by the way, because I'm going to mess up your name at least once. E-girl and Liir had to deal with the whole coed thing. Edmund and Jon worked out the details of sharing a room. Jaina and Valentine met and discussed their families.

No, I'm not saying the rest. I won't be part of your encouragement of matchmaking, squirrels. Fandom, between you and me, I think the squirrels are a little too into shipping.

Turtle got her roomie Maron calling her by her nickname... Wait, Turtle ISN'T your real name? I'm kind of disappointed. It's like your store is a lie. Esme... well, she wasn't thrilled to have a boy roommate, poor Jack. Alex and Griffin tried to annoy each other, which should make for a pleasant living situation. Effy had to deal with Edward's enthusiasm.

Leda and Liz met each other, Eleanor and Ellie formed the House of El, and Serena was happy to find Penelope. George flailed about Jennifer, Virgil had to deal with Yakko, Shilo watched for Momoko, Gabrielle looked for Karla, and Chie searched for Emma.

And that's it for the roomie stuff. Now let's check in with the teacher portion of the meet and greet.

Steve met Karla and gave her information on the local power structure and titles. Steve also met Mitchell and clued him into the wacky. And Sophie met up with Stevers, who's her teaching buddy. He did his best to warn her. Mitchell tried to calm down a George who was freaking about his coed roommate. How's that for a first day on the job, Mitch?

Loki gave Mitchell his version of the Fandom rundown and...

Wait. WAIT. Loki is at the teacher thing? Tell me he's crashing. Tell me...

Oh God. Loki is a complete potty mouth. Don't let him influence your language!

Sophie seemed surprised to see Parker there - I had a similar experience one time - and asked about her trip to Fandom. Tim filled Sophie in about his time as a student in Fandom, Veronica greeted Elizabeth, and Gibbs swiftly learned that Brennan is a neeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrrd. Sorry, I've always wanted to see what it was like being on that end of calling someone a nerd. Not very satisfying, if you ask me.

Tim met Brennan, Ronan was amused to meet Jon O'Neill, and Veronica discussed classes with Sarah.

Minsc and Boo filled Max in on the wacky, and the big guy also made sure sure Tim met the little hamster. Minsc and Deadpool made bets on making students cry... Really?

Rimmer was excited to be here. Fraser had a little fan club in the forms of Mitchell, Veronica, Tim, Senor Pajamas, and Vince. Gibbs was more curious if Fraser lost a bet, and Diana was amused until she realized that he was school security. Yep, Fandom High doesn't mess around when it comes to security. They always catch their man!

Loki and Sarah discussed the scariness of teaching, and again, I think it's the students who should fear Loki more than the other way around. Fiona talked to 'Professor Loki' and I am amused by that phrase. Daisy gave Sophie a little more info on Fandom. Gibbs scared Marshall. And Veronica chatted with Gibbs about their classes this summer.

Abbey Irene and Jack Priest caught up with each other because as it turns out, they already know each other from back home. Indiana got his teaching buddy on, and that's not me this time, that's what the squirrel wrote down. Whichever one of you wrote that down, you're my new favorite.

Veronica picked a TA based on criteria that I choose to believe involves whoever was the first person to bump into her. I say that because Harry did just that and got the job. Max did some people watching, Veronica was amazed by Vince's blinding outfit (which even impressed Harper), and the administration tried to figure out who the next Jamie Madrox is.

Mitchell talked to Zoe, as did Anakin But Anakin's the one who had the fun bus stories. Gibbs checked on the status of corporal punishment. Zoe checked in with Brennan, her teaching buddy. Veronica checked in with Zoe about how the students have behaved since she graduated. And Gibbs tried to figure out Deadpool's angle. Craziness, my friend. His angle is craziness.

Deadpajamas seemed convinced that Tim Riggins was someone he knew - trust me, Tim, I know how that feels - while Edna, Vince, and Sophie were all fixated on the Pool's PJs while Zack just wondered what someone like him might teach.

DeePs and Steve discussed who the Poolboy thought Riggins was. Anakin was distracted by his commlink while talking to Tim - the teacher and former student, not the other guy. And a bubble popped, dropping another new teacher into the picnic.

Now the big fun. THE GENERAL MINGLING!

Peyton got her mingle on, as did Helen, and yes, I'm said 'got her mingle on' and there's nothing you can do to stop me from saying it again. Parker thought Turtle had a funny name, which isn't a nice thing to say at all. You don't make friends like that. Romeo was glad to see that Jill was still around, and she kindly dropped a bit of a bombshell on him. Not literally. That would be a very severe littering offense. Leda met Dean and asked what people did for fun. My answer? Dodging gremlin bites.

Dean and Chuck had a little squabble that has the squirrels demanding that they get a room. Don't look at me, I'm just reading what they give me. Priestly and Dean talked about people who shared their face. And Sam Witwicky got his grub on and you can't stop me from saying that one again either.

Arthur and Fiona had an entirely pleasant conversation that ran into just a little bit of a brick wall when the topic turned to invasions. Blysse inquired about Merlin's disappearance, but he returned in short order, just in time to hear about Arthur's meeting with Morgana.

Leda had a little bit of a rough go, first mistaking Blysse for a newbie and then getting rejected when she asked for one of Jenny's cigarettes. Don't feel bad about that Leda. Those things are terrible for you.

Valentine surprised her little baby brother Ender by showing up. Dor warned Rachel about wackiness. And Turtle introduced herself to Rachel.

Dean met Elspeth, who comes from a place where he was one time that sounds to me like they should make vaccuum cleaners. Valdemar. Come on, tell me they don't make handivacs. Turtle also introduced herself to Elspeth, but failed to bring up Dustbustertonia. Leda and Marco both ate, not necessarily together, don't think I'm trying to start any rumors, I'm not that kind of reporter. Not intentionally, at least.

Effy and Liir met, and he introduced her to Makejoy--

Yakko: Good night everybody!

Ben: ... What the hell was that? ... Anyway, Worf and Effy had a chat that consisted primarily of him yelling at her about smoking and her being smug about not following rules. I don't know about you, but I think there's a real spark there.

Okay, now I'm trying to start rumors. I guess I am that kind of reporter. Oh well.

Zack meets Liir and his dog. Liir gives him an education with the whole wackiness thing. And Dor and Zack both made new friends: in this case, those friends were each other. Awww.

Diana's cat met Liir's dog and they got along like cats and dogs. Leda and Diana talked about their respective homes. Lois met Griffin without a shirt--

Yakko: HELLOOOOOOOO, NURSE!

Ben: Seriously, what's going on with that? K-Mart mused that Griff looked nervous. Romeo watched the crowd, with food. Liir mistook Jack for someone else. Griff and Jack spoke in a language that the poor little squirrel couldn't understand.

Ronan flirted with Jack about clothes, Jon and Jack discussed how this place is nuts - just wait, fellas - and Dinah got all of Fiona's relevant info. Ellie and Alex caught up after coming here on the shuttle together. They discussed whether or not they came here willingly. Yay for her, nay for him.

Angela and Hannibal got each others shirts off, but Angela was smart enough to dress in layers today. Blair and Adora reaffirmed their siblinghood. Chuck and Serena were surprised to see each other. Jaina got her stealing John's grub on and I'm going to keep on using that manner of describing how things happened.

Angela did her best to get Fiona social. Angela and Blair were checking out the guys. Edward told Priestly about his new girl roommate. Savannah wandered over by Johnny. And Dor was excited about the whole event of the day.

Fiona checked if Worf was with campus security, then had a clash of energy levels when Amber greeted her. Sam checked in on Claire because he's nice to the newbs. But when Peter met Claire, there was awkwardness. It seems that they know each other, but are not from the same universe. Jaina showed off her mingling skills, as did Chuck. But only one of them was drinking on school property. Guess which one!

Lois and Alex were flirty smartasses at each other. Adora checked if Leda was fashion buddies with Claudia. Emmett was around, but somewhat bundled up. Jack and Serena made small talk, and I should note that her hair has made one of the squirrels very jealous. If anyone sees a bald squirrel running around, know that it has given up on its furry mammalian heritage.

Serena met her real baby brother, Eric, only they're from other universes, so that's gotta be weird. Eleanor stayed off to the side with some food. Ned was also off to the side, but he had shyness instead of food.

Esme was a social butterfly until Turtle interrupted that by approaching and greeting her. Leda stared at Naomi's forehead before talking to her. Liz got her mingle on, still can't stop me. Tim and Griffin shared a drink. Unfortunately, Peyton caught Tim drinking. He wasn't the only one, as mentioned earlier. Tsk. For shame, people.

Hurley wandered around with food, Yakko was odd at Leda and Turtle, and Turtle helped Jennifer battle her shy nature. Alex made fun of George's appetite, which is mean, and thus caused weirdness when Dinah brought it up as well.

Eric had food and people-watching, Priestly and Sam discussed Priestly's upcoming turn as the only person with his face, and Sam chatted with Chuck about how much or how little action Chuck will be getting in their cabin this summer.

Morgana and Leda discussed the awesome castle. Dinah and Morgana met up. Diana convinced Harper that she might be colorblind... Hey, no messing with my lone employee!

Zack and Maron checked in with each other. Francine and Merlin were reunited...

*squirrel singing*

Which one is Peaches and which one is Herb?

*chatter*

Got it. Just don't shave yourselves, okay?

Francine kind of overwhelmed Jennifer. Gabrielle and Francine had a moment of mutual confusion because they look like people they know. Emmett complimented Merlin's new beard and checked to see if he could talk to bears, which apparently makes more sense in context.

Angela had Ellie pegged as a new kid, and Priestly bonded with Ellie over their California roots. Which isn't to say that either of them dye their hair. I honestly don't know if they do. Ellie and Jennifer bonded over the same thing - again, California, not hair.

Priestly fielded a question about possible relation to Dean from Leda. Adora made a new friend in Shilo. Griff was terrified of Claudia's hat. Meanwhile Leda thought Claudia's fashion sense was great.

Ben shared his surprise that somebody else's family showed up with Valentine, Turtle mingled and ate, Katina people watched, and Adam and Eve thought back to when they were still brand new here.

Shilo was confused by Robin's singing, Tim was Mister Mingles, Chuck got handsy with Blair, who had to deal with the weirdness of meeting a Serena from a different universe in a different time. Turtle dealt with name stuff from Alex, who Brooke flirted with to get his shirt off. And that really just starts a string of shirtless notes.

Leda appreciated Hannibal's shirtlessness, Turtle introduced herself to a shirtless Tim, and Claire zeroed in on his shirtlessness. Also, Tim apparently doesn't believe the wacky.

Enjoy the next few weeks, Timmy!

Priestly and Tim met, Annja had a video camera, and Jack gave Tim a bit of a shock to the wackiness disbelieving center of his brain when Jack described his past.

Jaina and Tahiri made up and are friendly again. Griff was surprised by Tahiri's shoelessness. But Blysse joined her in being barefoot as they ended up wrassling - that's a squirrel word - with a wolf. You don't see that at too many schools. Turtle found out that Jon had already gotten the wacky rundown, Dinah mistook him for someone else, and Turtle asked Effy about her trip to Fandom.

Katina and Effy let their differences bring them into conversation. Yakko tried to give Angela the key to his heart and I can't help but think that he's moving just a tiny bit too fast. Savannah checked in with the graduate Brooke while she was looking for shirtless guys. Zayne was looking for Jedi. And Buffy was looking for people from her home.

Turtle and Griff flipped Objectivism on its head when they pointed out that the fact that everyone here was abnormal meant that no one was. Griff also discussed how many people are too many people with Blysse and Blind Seer. Priestly and Himura discussed whether or not Fandom makes you jaded. And this has been a strangely philosophical section of notes. Let's see if we can change that.

Priestly and Jack talked about food.

Well done.

Parker wondered if Priestly lost a bet. Turtle assured Himura that Fandom is a relatively small school and advised Claire to take it slow. Claire and Jon talked about his comfort level with the wacky, Savannah mistook Claire for an old Claire, and Parker made note of the strawberries Kaylee was eating.

Zayne and Sookie talked about passing the torch to the new kids, Sookie and Jack talked about time differences, and Turtle talked to Chie about how nice everyone was with one notable exception. Jennifer and Chie talked about their newness. Kaylee was supporting Ned through his shyness. Gabrielle realized that she was suddenly FAAAAAAR in the future when she talked to Turtle. And Dinah met the newly shocked time traveller.

Gabrielle was glad that Jennifer wasn't trying to kill her. Turtle greeted Ellie, too, and that girl is everywhere today. Turtle clearly knows how to network. Jack and Ellie discussed the island's wacky.

Eleanor admitted that she was kind of overwhelmed to Turtle. K-Mart ran into Hurley and they talked sibs. Johnny's shirtlessness made Savannah reminisce and K-Mart enjoy the view. Momoko arrived a tiny bit late. And finally, Jess and Parker talked about food.

Dorms, which is where new students and old students live together in harmony.

After the picnic, Jon went to his room to unpack. So did Diana and her cat, who had a visit from Eleanor. And George and Mitchell made a stop at the abandoned shack. George ended up naked and locked in the shack. Man, pranks have really stepped up since my day.

Town, because you're officially sick of all the students and want to find out what's going on with the adults, you know, if you ignore the fact that the students can come into town, too. Ahem.

Rusty set up shop at MCA to rent out apartments to Sophie and Jasper.

Mary had a bunch of bananas at The Arms, where Gibbs requested a bananaless room.

Mitchell wandered the town, finally arriving at his home. Unfortunately, his home also seems to be home to Rimmer. Meanwhile, Jasper unpacked in his apartment, where Emmett stopped by to tell him about the wacky.

Samuel headed into the Preserve. Hurley closed Groovy Tunes for the picnic, but Jen made sure Pizza Planet was open. And Marion made the zombies relatively presentable at Caritas, where Daisy was the sole customer. Sorry, Day. I would have been there, but I was busy prepping for my big debut.

And it looks like that's it. If any of you are still awake, good night!
