Fandom Radio [Thursday, May 15]

"Hello, Fandom! It's Robin Scherbatsky, once again gracing the airwaves and delighting you all with my voice this Thursday night. And hey, this time, the children had classes. More for me to report on, fun. Though, gotta say, looking over these notes, your summer camp is so different from my summer camp. And it's not just because it was in Canada. God.

Classes -- hey, even in Canada, where summer is a week and a half, we didn't have school during summer

Okay, so first off, Functional Fashion got to observe how Lulu's boobs weren't falling out of her shirt. Um? I mean, that is a really useful skill, I'll give you that. Many a time, I've been grateful for the boob tape or whatever to prevent such a mishap. I kind of wish I'd had that kind of class when I was in school. But anyway, before class, Chad got a job as a model. ...is Chad a girl? Does Chad have the boobage that sounds kind of necessary for this job? Ooh, does he get to wear one of those aqua-bras? I always kinda wanted one. They looked squishy. So students did the introduction thing, Lulu asked if anyone else had clothes that kept from exposing boobs, and then fielded questions. Afterwards, kiddies could go talk to Lulu. Anyone who brings helpful notes from that class to Caritas next Thursday gets a free drink.

Flight and Flying got to play with helicopters -- ooh, cool. They also did the intro thing and talked about their experience, and then there was teaming up and squadron flying and a riverbed run. I don't know how to pilot a plane or anything, so I'm totally basing my knowledge of those terms off of kicking my ex-boyfriend's ass at Xbox flight games. Meanwhile, Reno got himself a TA job. Kiss-up.

How to Be the Best broke into groups. Isn't that kind of class the kind of thing that's starting to be discouraged in the American education system? Like, isn't that bad for kids' egos? Not that I care, it's just that I heard dodgeball got taken out of schools because of that, and I love dodgeball. Anyway. Group one took a beating and introduced themselves, as did Group two. Ow. Temari told Jamie she liked him with his shirt off, which is a forwardness that I can endorse. And she and Ino sniped at each other, as teenage girls are wont to do. I remember being that age way too well. Of course, my fights were usually with Jessica and Tori over who got the last Wetzel's Pretzel Bite, but details. Logan, who I'm guessing is the teacher, was there, and so was his TA, Z.

History of Sex -- oh god, that's what he's teaching this semester? God. Anyway, that featured Barney and Tink -- who I know nothing about but she's tainted by association, no offense -- being themselves. There was a lecture, probably featuring a lot of 'What up!'s and a few high fives and a legend -- wait for it -- or two. And you can keep waiting, I'm not finishing that word for awhile. It's kind of fun keeping you all in suspense. No wonder Barney says it so much. Ron told Mac this class is hell, and she offered to distract him. Careful, kids. Barney catches sight of any wandering hands under those desks and you'll never hear the end of it. Or see the end of it, since knowing him, he'd film it. Dean told Sam that he should get Dawn to 'assist' him, rawr. Again, not in class unless you want to wind up on the internet. And isn't Sam with Lucas, anyway? Dean also told Alec that this class is going to be hilarious, which is probably true, but I'd still watch your back, kid, because you don't know who's going to be the butt of jokes. Toby didn't understand what Tink was saying, so he asked Reno for help. Some of those technical terms can be kind of long and hard to pronounce, yeah. And there was more school-based innuendo from Toby and Kevin, which is very creative. And then those poor children embarrassed themselves. Oh, kiddies. And Ron and Dawn were the rhyming TAs. Tink almost killed a student because of something about a Wendy-bird, and now I'm sad I missed this. And finally, Dawn offered to help Ron with that actual talking to real, live girls thing. Aww. I promise, it's easier than it looks, unless you pick a really bitchy one. We don't bite unless asked nicely, cross my heart.

Oh. And --dary. There. It was bothering me, leaving that hanging.

Chemistry for Anarchists made soap. Wow, rebellious. There was a lot of listening, before everyone introduced themselves and then, yeah, actually made soap. For some reason, Sokka didn't want to get hurt making soap -- what? -- and Rikku decided he was no fun, based on this. What is wrong with all of you? After class, Rikku asked Tyler if he used to be a minion. That's...a hell of a question, without context. Please don't ever tell me what she meant. It makes me laugh, not knowing. Aly gossipped with Tyler about the students, and Evey apparently rocks the soap-making, so she gets to be TA. Another kissass!

And in office hours, there was only Mike, who was amused by his computer.

Cabins, which is why it sucks to be a student right now

So, Bridge was a dork about something on the internet. Don't tell me you're the only person in the world who likes that Rick Astley song, or something. Meg stopped in and he shared his squee with her, which turns out to be about the gay marriage thing in California, and less about rickrolling. That's comforting. Elsewhere, Ino worked out, Romeo needed to head home with Dojima, and they recruited Nathan for legal help. Also, Summer sent some email, and Liir lies around in bed and shivers. Ew, don't get sick on anyone else in that cabin. Last thing I need is a bunch of clammy kids coming in asking for wine coolers when I work next week.

This morning, at the Sirius campfire -- that's S-I-R-I-U-S, not like a campfire that only discussed non-funny things -- Gladys chilled by the campfire, and then was joined by River, who said that the flames dance; Jamie, who asked if the stars moved; and Ella, who offered a muffin. Gladys said no thank you, because Golems don't eat. I thought they just scrounged around in the dark whining about jewelry.

In the gym, Jaina did work with her lightsaber. That sounds...kinda cool. Cassandra stopped by, and so did Luke, who's leaving next week. Oh, sad.

Speaking of Luke, after class he was sitting at the Ursa Major campfire with food on sticks. Ooh, one of the few good aspects of camping. Adah came out and Luke talked to her about having so much time to kill without classes. God, why aren't you all out doing something with that time? Hello, there is Greece over there. Peter Pevensie discussed weddings with Luke, including Luke's dad's -- which I went to and I can talk extensively about the open bar but not much else -- and his own. Oh my god, children, that is so young. When I was wee and still in Canada, I had a friend who got married really young, and her wedding cake was a Mrs. Field's giant cookie. Do you really want that?

...don't answer that.

Isabel was way too excited about that wedding. Look, all the best to you guys, but just on the down-low, Marsh -- um, Professor Eriksen knows lots of lawyers. Probably some divorce ones. Just saying. Anyway, Isabel had the makings of banana s'mores, which sound oddly appealing.

At the Sirius campfire again, this time in evening, that kid with the hair made a sandwich. Blair came to flail at him about how this place is weird, and Chad waved to her. Andrew snagged some of John's sandwich, but he felt bad because he's already crashing on John's floor. Awww. Slumber party! Chad checked on his baby brother, who is also known as Hair Kid. And Jamie was all confused at John about how he has a date. What's confusing about that? I thought kids today were like having sex in the seventh grade. Why aren't you all already versed in mating rituals?

And in the insomniac kid news, Alice was at the Cygnus campfire. Jamie stopped by and assured her that fires don't stand on formality, whatever that means, and Turtle and Alice talked about how campfires are useful for meeting people and stuff. Turtle and Jamie talked shop, which is both kind of nerdy and admirably industrious. Reno stopped by to say 'yo' and confused the hell out of Alice by doing so, and then he and Jamie discussed the trademarking of said greeting. Ooh, it's trademarked? Do I have to pay royalties for just using it on the air? I was quoting someone, so I'm pretty sure that doesn't count. Dammit, I can't remember that part of my training. god, why did those classes have to be so boring and full of cute boys? Oh, right, because I'm trained in broadcast journalism.

Town, where the awesomeness resides

So today, Sokka worked Turtle and Canary, and Ino dashed in quickly. Cable opened Wllspring Arms, where Worf's kind of becoming a regular, I guess, what with the meditation and all. Millie was singing at Book Haven, and Murdock came in and complimented her singing before making a date. Awww. Totally the way into a woman's heart, dude. Or her pants. Either way. Anyway, Cal worked at Luke's, Hoshi opened the hotel, and she got a visit from Jack. Isabel was in Pixie Dust, and Andrew came in all upset over his fight with his boyfriend. Sigh. Children, you guys are like, thirteen. Just share an Otter Pop and get over it. Geoffrey was at the banana stand, and then at the theater, where Cal showed up for casting. Meanwhile, Ami was at the Magic Box, Xander was at the MCA, and the clinic was quiet with Tiny Barney.

And then there was the best place ever, Caritas! I worked tonight, which is why I say that. Igor came in, and he was really nice if kind of creepy, 'cause he offered me his services which is not dirty, just kind of gross. But I say that as someone who has no needs of the dismemberment type. Perspective's everything, right? Marshall came in! Which is kinda cool because I didn't know he was here, and we talked about how he's from my past, which is weird, and about Canada, and Benton, he's going to want to wear your hat, just FYI. Marshall and Murdock met and got acquainted, which isn't as interesting, I know, but it happened. Murdock got a Scotch from me, but no cigar, which is kind of wrong but that's a preference thing, I guess. And of course Benton came in and refused to order alcohol, because sometimes he's kind of a nerd. Aww. And finally, Mike was there for a beer. But not a Greek one, since I don't know what Greece has for beer. Oh well. Maybe we all missed out.

And that's it! I'm out, and headed home to fall asleep under a pile of dogs. No, seriously, that's not a euphemism. Night guys!"

Horrified, Murdock stared at the radio. “What?! Nononono. That’s not what I was goin’ for. Geesh lady, get your mind out of the gutter!”
