Fandom Radio, Sunday, December 31st
Good morning everyone, and I'd like to say a special hello to all of our new folks. My name is Clint Barton and if you noticed some squirrels following you around at the picnic yesterday, well, this is why. If you didn't notice the squirrels, it means they're leveling up in stealth, good job guys.
*pleased chittering*
If you're new around here, you'll hear the news every day on this station, and also get some good warnings if something's going on. Not that anything bad happens... you know, more than once every few months... okay I'm just going to get started with the notes now.
I'm gonna stick all these picnic notes at the end - let's start with the dorms where Summer put out flyers and messages about her New Year's Eve party happening later today. Over in town, Uma washed up on the beach, and hopefully found the picnic and got some food, and maybe some dry clothes because it was a little cold out there. Seivarden spent her time at Covent Garden Flowers making New Year's arrangements, Miguel was running a half-off special for new students at Luke's, and Mike had discounted drinks for all the new people at Caritas.
All right, now I'm ready to dive into the picnic. All the new students had a chance to meet their school-appointed big sibling; Norman was a little surprised to have Sidon as a sibling, but he adjusted pretty well once they started talking about hobbies and normal things. Peridot leaped right into warning Theron about gremlins and weird rain, but apparently he comes from somewhere with weird rain too, so that conversation went well. Breq got the honor of explaining, well, everything to Uma, since she wasn't expecting to end up at a school, and Eric had a picnic basket of goodies for Molly, because he's clearly good at this sibling thing. Tip eased Bobby into the idea of the school having people from multiple dimensions--it's one of those things that sounds really weird when you first say it, but you eventually get used to it.
The new students also had a chance to meet their roommates: Norman was surprised to see Mara as his roommate, especially when he realized she wasn't from 2017, or 2018, or 20-anything. Theron and Jughead seemed to get along okay after introductions, Bobby gave Uma his coat after meeting up with her, since she was cold and wet, and Tip started getting Molly caught up on the present, since she's from the 1900's. That's going to be an interesting adjustment.
Over by the teachers, Alluka stole a hug from Jono, and Bobby introduced himself, although Jono already knows multiple Bobbys so... that's fun. Jughead and Sparkle got caught up since Jughead was at his old school in the fall, and Alluka was very excited to show Sparkle her adorable cape. Amaya and Magnus talked about what they were each going to attempt to teach this semester, as well as Amaya's dislike of magic users, and Hannibal introduced himself to Amaya as her teaching buddy, in case she had any questions about what she was getting herself into. Hardison complained to Steve and Tony about the cold, like they could do anything about it. Brooke talked to Anakin about being hijacked into teaching, and about how Jaina, who she looks like, married an emperor. Anakin also made sure to introduce himself to Theron, who tried to run when he saw Anakin. That's always a good sign on the first day. Olivia asked Magnus why he wasn't dressed warmer for the weather, and he didn't really have a good answer besides not wanting to mess with his armor. Verity and Zoe apologized for the fight they had to have when everything went crazy a few weeks ago... uh, fun crazy, really, and Jenkins helped Brooke figure out what should go into a home ec class, since she doesn't really do domestic stuff herself. That'll be an interesting class, for sure. Hannibal also complimented Alluka on her pretty outfit, and Verity met Jono, since he's her teaching buddy, and explained that she's teaching Cryptozoology specifically to undo any wrong information Deadpool put out there. At least she's teaching something she knows?
Let's see what else the squirrels caught... Summer introduced herself to Theron and Norman and invited them to her New Year's Eve party. Uma used Theron as an unofficial food tester, and Tip tried to assure Norman that he'd adjust to all the weird things about Fandom soon enough, just like she had. Tip and Summer got caught up about their respective breaks, which apparently involved Summer almost getting murdered. I'm hoping that was an exaggeration... Summer also made sure Peridot would be at her party, and Paris was sort of surprised to find that Peridot's pet Pumpkin is, in fact, an actual pumpkin, but she also wasn't entirely surprised, you know? Summer invited Paris to her party, and Tip and Paris talked about how stupid politicians are these days. Bobby got a party invite from Summer, and Molly got to learn all about phones when Summer gave her her invite.
Octavia told Uma that the food really was for everyone, since she's not a student at the school but no one's shooed her away. While we're on that topic, if there's a ton of food in one of the common rooms, it's generally for everyone too. Uma also got to meet Sidon, who was excited to meet a new student and didn't know Uma's mother like she seemed to expect, and Uma found out Aloy is also looking for a way to get off the island and get home. Molly got to introduce Uma to the wonderful world of chocolate - hot chocolate, specifically - and Molly and Bobby bonded over feeling very, very overwhelmed. That's how the first day always is, it really does get easier, I promise. Tip introduced herself to Uma, and found out about how terrible the place she came from is, and Uma told Norman that the food was for everyone and was actually pretty good, before she also got an invite for New Year's from Summer.
And that seems to be everything for today. I hope everyone has a good night tonight ringing in the new year, and have a good first week of classes.
