Fandom Radio, Saturday, October 25
Good morning, and hello to any alumni that might be listening in! This is Kira Yukimura, with a stack of notes the size of a coffee cup. Thankfully, there's coffee in the cup too, because I decided to be prepared this week. So, let's see what everyone got up to yesterday, shall we?
Even thought it's Homecoming, we still had classes yesterday. The How to Be a Spy teachers encouraged everyone to go to the festival and try to blend in as an assignment. That's... almost relevant to the class, wow. In American History, Mr. Lyman had the students share stories they've heard about Fandom, and the Beginner Gourmet Cooking class learned about different types of pots and pans.
It looks like the dorms were pretty quiet, understandably. In town, Barry was at his warehouse looking after Elsa, who's still a polar bear, and then he turned into a puppy, and that's kind of adorable but also kind of scary because someone needs to make sure to take care of both of them now. Hint hint, people. The Arms Hotel was crazy busy, but Mary had it all under control, and Allie had a careful watch on Tiny at the Devil's Nest.
Of course, most importantly, there was a fall festival yesterday, and if you somehow walked away without glitter in places you didn't know glitter could end up, then you're more skilled than I am. There was a ton of food, only some of which was pumpkintastic, and lots of tables for people to hang out at. Pretty much everyone wanted to see Jaina's massive engagement ring - Ben talked to her about what's going on at home for her, to compare it to what's going on for him timeline-wise, Rory made plans with Jaina to go dress shopping, and Tahiri told Jaina about how terrible things have been for her recently. Tahiri also got a big hug from Ben though, so hopefully that helped. Bay and Jim talked about how things have been going since graduation and Jim not knowing what he wants to do with his life yet. I think that's how most recent grads feel, honestly. Sia and Jessica got caught up a little bit, but Jessica wanted to meet Sia later to talk more about what's been going on with her.
There was a place to pick pumpkins which kind of confused Aeryn and Ichabod. Clearly, we need to have a pumpkin carving party. Or a pumpkin seed roasting party, mmmm. Aeryn and Jalian decided that the pumpkins were a sign that Earth people are crazy which... is not entirely wrong, I'll give them that. The petting zoo was awesome with all the cute little animals and fluffy chickens and... yeah, moving on, there was also a zombie concert because that's the kind of world we live in now. Aeryn didn't understand it, which puts her in a class with, I think, everyone, and poor Eponine and Cecil got sucked into selling merchandise for the zombies, so be extra nice to them today. There was a corn maze which I personally avoided because I've been subjected to too many scary movies, but Mara was in there, and so was Cade until he saw Mara and ran out. Weird. There was a hay bale obstacle course which was more of a "hot ladies showing off how strong they are" course - which is way better, for the record - and then everything ended with the parade and people getting glittered and if anyone tried to manuever a float around, you get so many bonus life points.
Of course, there were also a ton of booths at the festival and let's see how the squirrels got these. Okay, first we've got the kissing booths. Sia was surprised that Four had a booth, and Jalian wasn't sure what the point of a kissing booth was. Lots of kissing for money, that's about it. Minako was proudly representing the Student Council, and Isabelle made Flick pay for his kiss, as she should have. Cade complained to Isabelle about how alumni have to leave the island after they graduate, and Isabelle refused to believe that Edward was innocent when she saw him at his kissing booth. Hey, some of us were just trying to be helpful to the school!
*amused chittering*
Hey, don't you start - it's your fault Gwen was at a kissing booth, which she explained to Travis, and Isabelle pointed out that there were worse things the squirrels could have signed her up for which is not a challenge, got it?
*quiet chittering*
Okay, good. Flick teased Emma about being at a booth and how it means she'll be a senator someday, and he also checked on me--yes, I volunteered for a kissing booth because I'm a good student who participates in school activities. Flick and I talked about, um, kissing difficulty and--oh hey, I was the first booth Johnny went to, he was right. And I assured him that I had, in fact, volunteered. Like a crazy person. I also got to meet Jackson, which was super nice. Moving back on to people who aren't me, Sia thought Face was dressed up nicely for the occasion, and Mara teased Face about getting involved in Earth Culture things. I think kissing is a pretty universal culture thing - at least I hope it is! Poor Ichabod didn't know what he'd been signing up for, and Celia teased him about owing backpay on kisses she'd already given him. Raven also assured him that people would settle for cheek and hand kisses which, for future reference, is totally true. Anders was surprised that Rapunzel had a booth, and she assured him that she totally knew how to kiss guys, so there. Barry couldn't get any kisses in his dog state, but he did guard Rapunzel's booth and she helped get some glitter off of him in return. Raven was surprised when she found out Rapunzel hadn't volunteered for the booth--darn it, squirrels!--but Rapunzel was making the best of it, which probably wasn't hard since she got a visit from Johnny and told him he only had to pay for one kiss and he could get more for free later. Wooow Rapunzel, your game is so much better than mine. Dr. Lecter had a booth which he was sharing with Jono, who is currently a snake. Ugh, this island. Anyway, he got a visit from Raven... who is apparently a second Raven that's an alumni. That Raven also had a kissing booth which got visited by the Raven who's a student, and they introduced themselves and talked about the time alumni-Raven actually turned into student-Raven for a weekend and now my head officially hurts.
Over at the dunk tank space, Atton tried to dunk Mr. Skywalker, but Mr. Skywalker used his mad skills to cheat and keep Atton from winning. Aww, that's not as much fun, I think. Mr. Skywalker did let Rory dunk him though because it was her birthday, and he offered Jaina a hug but she decided to take it when he was dry. And Bel tried to hit Mr. Skywalker's target with his hand to avoid any cheating tactics, although I suppose that's kind of cheating too. Ichabod checked with Ms. Pryde to make sure she wouldn't flunk him for dunking her, and Ms. Adler dunked Ms. Pryde in revenge for throwing a pie at her. It's nice to know our teachers can be kind of goofy too. Johnny was kind of cheating by having his hair on fire while he waited to be dunked and he teased Gwen about whether or not she'd be able to dunk him. Mara also got Johnny into the water, and I'm sure there was much rejoicing. Flick was in a tank too, as was Travis, who was a super great sport and let Raven throw five balls at his target before she finally dunked him.
There were also people letting pies be thrown at them, for whatever reason. Ms. Adler was at a pie throwing booth, although she hadn't volunteered, and Hatter got her with a pie anyway. Ms. Pryde also got her, as mentioned, and Raven thought Ms. Adler took the pie to the face rather graciously. It's an inherent British skill, I bet. Principal Winchester promised Mr. Lyman that he wouldn't get fired for hitting her with a pie, assuming he managed to hit her, and Ms. Adler got her revenge on Hatter by hitting him at his booth. It turned out Ms. Pie was in a pie throwing booth, appropriately enough, and she was excited to have Ms. Pryde throw a pie at her, and student-Raven was having trouble hitting Cecil with a pie until he taunted her. Annoyance is such a great motivator, honestly.
And whew, that seems to be all the notes! I'm going to get out of here and get ready for the dance - hopefully I'll see lots of people there! Bye!
