Fandom Radio, October 18
Evening, Fandom! How are you, ladies, gentlemen, Fandomites of all persuasions whatever you may or may not usually be?
*annoyed chittering*
I am trying to be inclusive here, if you don't mind.
Classes
Kerrigan's testiness had nothing to do with having a different body than usual in Macro-Tactics, where she made students listen to a lecture about weaponry and how to tailor it to your needs and your budget, the subject they had to discuss. Imagine that. Leia who missed out on the change and Faramir talked about technology changing the feel of war and about the weapon that's being built in Leia's galaxy. Triela and Cloud argued about speed versus stealth, and the value of air support, and Cally and Emma -- neither of whom are usually boys -- debated telepathy as a tactic, and whether or not there should be limits on it. As for the TAs, Emma told Triela she'd get stuck with extra homework if she didn't focus on her work instead of Emma's Extreme Fandom Makeover. Kerrigan was around to talk to, but . . . probably a little intimidating.
Food Appreciation got Chinese food and a movie from John, who felt the need to tell them his, uh, assets for the day are nicer than theirs. And give them a lecture anyway. George Cooper as a girl looks like Jaina, which weirded John out, but movie time went on anyway, and John was available. Around the World in Fifteen Weeks and its more-female-than-usual teacher took the Danger Shop trip to a Brazilian street carnival, where they listened to a lecture while negotiating the parades and then got to explore, much to Alexander and Zatanna's excitement, or just watch a parade, or talk to Bond. Or Kyle, who was still recognizably Kyle.
In Personal Weaponry, Max found everyone's switched-up situation amusing. I'm not sure if that's a good idea in a class where you're teaching people ways to hurt you, but these notes don't say anything about that backfiring. Nope, just a lecture, an obstacle course that had to be a learning experience with different bodies, a chance to spar with the same concept in mind, or a chance to talk to Max. Who was snickering.
Jaina wasn't so amused in her office, and neither was John, who came by to complain about having to wear bras and George looking like Jaina. Steve, despite currently being female, got called away to New York for some reason.
Gabrielle was preoccupied less with being a boy than with work on a scroll in the library, where Henry may have been using the coffee as a coping technique to deal with being female.
Kappa Kappa Gremlin did a liiiiiittle overcompensating for the higher estrogen level at its meeting today by watching a monster truck rally. People mingled, of course, and Alexander figured out who Dolf was because of his -- her -- accent. Zack who looks like Zack and Alexander who doesn't were there, and so was Fraser who I'm sure does just as much justice to the RCMP uniform in a women's cut.
French Club, where today's mingling may have included practice at flirting in French, isn't normally led by two boys, though it is led by Sookie -- who got sulked at by Rilla about being a boy -- and Emma, and supervised by Henry who isn't usually a lady. Which is not a commentary on his social skills.
In the office, there are frogs. Croaking about vacation. At least they aren't croaking about awful American beer.
Dorms
This morning in the third floor common room, Kate who's normally a girl was making chocolate chip muffins. The squirrels definitely noticed there were nuts in the recipe, which Kate thought was funny. The squirrels, on the other hand . . . drooled on the notes in envy. Eugh. But as you do when you put food out in common rooms, people come to take some. Like Christian who's usually a boy, but agreed with Kate that this is the sort of opportunity that shouldn't be wasted. Well, I wouldn't know. Percy got to have muffins even though he was really cranky about being a girl, and Kate wanted to know what's wrong with that. I'd like to know, too, actually. Kate noticed Hinata's still a girl, and told her she's handling this year's switchup pretty well, although they both agree some people -- like Percy -- aren't taking it so well. Alexander's handling being a girl pretty well, so muffins aren't really a consolation for him. Just yummy. I bet. He talked to Hinata about how everyone being in unfamiliar bodies might be a really good opportunity for someone to spring a nefarious plot on Fandom and . . . oh, gosh, I hope I didn't just give anyone ideas. Cloud met Hinata, and lucky for him he won't have to wonder who it was he was talking to whenever this wears off for you poor people, and she explained to him how things like this happen around here sometimes. Just never to me. Kate told Cloud they were special not-our-normal-bodies muffins, but he could have some anyway even if he usually looked like this, and shared the recipe with him. Aww, that was nice.
In the afternoon Faramir was at the stables, luckily not getting kicked by his horse Baru for looking much less masculine than usual, and met Christian who, besides also not normally looking like a girl, isn't from this time either. Isn't it always the strangest times when people find out they have things in common? Up on the dorm roof tonight, Blossom wasn't too pleased to find out that as a boy, she looks like someone she knows.
Ariel was trying to calm Rilla down about still being a boy, but that might not have gone over so well once Rilla remembered Homecoming's coming up for you kids this weekend.
. . . uh oh. Bobby Drake wasn't taking it so well either, but Kate reminded him e was in the same boat as a lot of people so hiding out was a little pointless. Momoko was less tnan happy about this prolonged turn of events, and Jaime tried to get her to focus long enough to let him borrow some of her clothes. Apparently it hit the alumni, too, since Momoko got a call from Dinah who got hit by it too, but Momoko didn't understand why Spock was so calm about being a girl.
Bod and Jacob weren't so calm about being girls, and they suspected it's because the island got bored. I do have to say, reading about all your reactions is plenty of entertainment, so they may be on to something. Lindsay was babysitting a pug tonight, but I think the food she was ordering was for herself . . . and possibly to share with the no-longer-a-pug Peter who's also normally a boy. Which Rinoa, who's normally not a boy, was wondering about when she came back to the room. Until later, when she met up with Christian for a date. Luke and Nico think this entire thing has thrown off every aspect of their daily routine, because showering is weird now, and Roy just got on a video chat to home to show off his . . . newly named assets, then text-message with Dinah. Looking different from usual didn't stop Alexander and William from moving into their new room, though they were hoping they'd change back soon.
Town
The actual melons that kept showing up at Fixer-Uppers annoyed Ender more than the, er . . . metaphorical ones currently in his possession, and an equally metaphorically-melon-having Ben came by with coffee to complain about how he nearly cut his foot off with his lightsaber because he's not used to this body. Medusalith wasn't in a great mood about the whole thing at Fourth Dimension, and it's entirely possible Sophie's crash course on the gallery security systems was a good way to distract both of them from being male today. Oooh, are there lasers? Maybe. Quinn was definitely glaring lasers at the Arms over still being a boy.
Angua didn't call out of work at the Trooper Station, which she probably regrets after seeing the troopers' new, girly armor, and oooh, she came to talk to me at the diner about that. I was not feeling left out, squirrel, you take that back. Leia was at the Perk to meet with Anakin, who is her father despite appearances to the contrary today, and catch up with him on what she did over her break week. Which was not spent in Vail, nor partly as a boy. Zatanna was unaffected by the whole thing at Turtle and Canary, which Shunsui -- who was affected but doesn't seem to be letting it get to him -- was relieved to find out. Other people who didn't call out not-themselves from work today included Claudia at Book Haven and Dani Davis at the Gig even though she hid out in her office. Karla was in a much less than cheerful mood about being a guy at Dite's Decadent Delights, and even though Cloud was boggled by the whole thing he didn't really blame her for wanting to start drinking at midday. Roy decided to, er, seize the day, and asked Karla about vibrators, but Raven was more interested in commiserating with Karla over how this is all awful and why it isn't over yet.
Makita wasn't affected, but she did have to help Jaime and Momoko get new clothes for themselves at Pixie Dust. Alex Russo got a visit from Ino at the Magic Box to talk Homecoming; Ino was in a good mood, especially over at the clinic, for not being affected. Robin (eeeee) was affected, and taking advantage of it to use power tools, much to Fraser's worry. So was Reno, which surprised Rikku this morning, but she did suggest getting him clothes that fit for the time being.
Jake didn't even notice how different so many people look; noooo, he was just telling Tino all about his vacation at Caritas, and figuring out who Robin (eeeee) was, and flirting with a woman who happens to beSherlock, who was annoying Quinn and her light beer. And offering to share booze with Karla . . . Sherlock, that is. Was offering to do that.
. . . I'm so confused now. Someone make a flow chart. But do it off the air, because I need a drink now. This is Lacey Burrows for WTFH, emphasis on the WTF tonight, and good night, Fandom! Whoever you all are tonight.
