Fandom Radio, September 27
Good evening, Fandom, and welcome to another Monday! Lacey Burrows, here to help you try and start it off on a cheerful note!
School
Starting things off on an academic note, Food Appreciation . . . did what? Oh, gosh, listen, you guys, Happy Meals? Do you even -- oh, right, you watched that documentary about McDonald's. Okay. If anyone yelled at John for grossing them out about fast food, you know, we've got healthier burger options over at L--
*THUNK*
I can't even get one little plug in, can I? Not even one? Macro-Tactics got to gear up and organize their troops to defend a castle. Leia and Emma combined their forces to defend the walls, Cloud, Faramir, and Karla held down the gates, Cally organized defenses in the courtyard, and Alexander, Karla, and K-Mart took stock of storage. The TAs were there, including a shiny diamond Emma who fielded questions from Triela about . . . being shiny diamond. And Kerrigan was around to keep an eye on everyone, naturally.
Personal Weaponry dealt with blades-on-a-stick today, which are not to be confused with ice cream on a stick. Please. Because boy, you think the brain freeze is bad . . . *chittering* What do you mean, the lecture probably didn't have bad jokes like that? Lookit, that was a perfectly funny --
*sigh* Carrying on. People tried out polearms. Max, no one got stabbed, right? Right? Around The World in 15 Weeks was in Venice for the 54th International Festival of Contemporary Music, which was probably more fun than a lecture. Kyle was present for TA-ly duties, and Bond was on the distracted side today, so I'm informed, thank you, squirrels.
Speaking of distracted, Jaina seemed to be, in her office, and Kukaku was not blowing things up this week, in the interest of reading the play script. And in the school office, paperwork was getting burned for heat. I think I saw a musical once where that --
Or . . . no, I'm not sure if -- anyway. In the library, while Gabrielle was reading a long letter from home, William went through back issues of Baltimore papers, and Henry was working on the budget -- boy, you are an exciting bunch today. Cassidy came in to get Henry's help finding a book, though.
Oh, look at that, clubs started meeting this week! Like the French Club, with pastries for people when they got there -- you know, I have pastries at --
*THUNK*
Fine. It was introductions time, and that's not happening enough to make a really good drinking game out of it today. William and Rilla were impressed by all the out-of-season fruit, and Emma, Sookie, and Henry the club advisor were all on hand.
Wait, did I mention drinking games? Because Kappa Kappa Gremlin had frat members both old and new show up for the first time this term to play I Never and . . . belch. Oh, don't be surprised. It's a frat. There are worse ideas. Or better ones, like Chuck's gaming night suggestion. Zack and Alexander? Which of you came up with this? No idea, but Fraser thought it was funny.
Boys.
Dorms
Kate got back from her trip out of town today, and told Bod all about it when he came by and teased her about being half asleep. Bobby Drake's idea of welcoming his roomie back was to tell her he saw her on YouTube. Usually that's a sign you should worry, but evidently, not this time.
Shira was channelsurfing in the second floor common room, but there wasn't anything interesting on. And even though she and Ariel both live on the fifth floor, Ariel hadn't met her until now. Nothing says first impressions like suggesting a trip to the junkyard, Ariel. Leda sign-languaged something at Ariel, and then reminded her that she's supposed to show Ariel her motorcycle. Karla walked right into the common room and called Shira a Black Widow, and if it wasn't reported that they went on to figure out they're from the same world with timeline differences in classic Fandom style, I'd wonder if that was a catfight about to happen. Ariel and Karla were contemplating more food -- yes, you can get delivery from Luke's and no, that isn't a plug, they were wondering, don't you dare throw that acorn at me. Leda and Shira traded questions, what's on for what happened to your arm, where the answers are basically 'nothing' and 'it's an old friend's fault.' Cassidy and Shira somehow realized they're from the same world, but, guess what not the same place or point in time, but that was close enough for government work. Or for Cassidy and Karla to discuss having enough people to start a coven and boy am I glad it's not Parents' Weekend yet or someone would hear what I just said and someone else would have some explaining to do.
Up in the fifth floor common room, Bobby McCallister was more interested in his history book than the football game. You'd think that was a surprising thing to say about a high school boy, but Elphaba thought it was a good thing he wasn't paying attention to the game. And if history's interesting, spaceship class is even more so, according to what Bobby told Jason.
Town
Ino had a list of names for some reason at the clinic, but no reports of anyone coming in with injuries, so that's a good thing.
Not so good: the new sign at Fixer-Uppers, formerly Stark Industries, at least according to Ender and Ben. Or possibly the actual pixies that Makita had to deal with at Pixie Dust. Or Medusalith's attempts to figure out the vacuum cleaner at Fourth Dimension. Or Dani Davis's attempts to get back on Bold's good side, at the Gig, after a trip to the blacksmith. Or the scones Angua was passing out at the trooper station for use as paperweights. Or Shunsui's nap in the park, since it got interrupted by Farnsworth yelling at him to get a job.
Over at the Magic Box, Alex Russo was sketching when Ino came in to ask about magic and number-related curses. And again I am grateful I am not reporting while all your parents are here. Speaking of which, Quinn was multitasking at the Arms, working on Parents' Weekend organization on her shift. Jane was at Strokes of Genius texting up a storm, and Zatanna was practicing that customer service smile at Turtle and Canary. It actually hurts a little at first? But you get used to it. Promise. Really, from there it's just an easy step up to going the extra mile for people, which is what I try to do at Luke's . . . which gets me things like Angua helping me hang the new planters!
. . . the plants aren't really plotting to talk us out of eating them. They're not they're not they're not.
The supernatural element Claudia was looking into at Book Haven was the fictional romance kind, until Quinn came in to look for a 19th-century romance for class, mock Dusk, and gossip about Claudia and Jacob. Or 'Jaaaacob,' with four A's, as my squirrel reporter spelled it. Karla was at Dite's Decadent Delights setting up chocolate chessboard displays, and ended up playing chess with Tim Drake, or attempting to. Who knew chess rules were different between worlds?
*chittering*
What do you mean, everyone but me?
At Caritas, Tino tried to hide the maple vodka from Jake. Tino, how could you. That wasn't a success, and what did Tino get for it? Jake putting Kukaku's drink on Tino's tab. Well, that'll show you, Tino.
Okay, and that's all for me tonight, so until next Monday, Fandom -- and good luck with those parents, huh?
