Fandom Radio, August 30

Good evening, Fandom! Lacey Burrows here on WTFH, and welcome to the first night of the new semester. First day of new classes, first day of classes for new students . . . it all makes me want to go out and buy school supplies even though I haven't needed to do that in . . .

Well, never mind that.

School

The squirrels just pulled out a couple of cases of tiny rum bottles. Oooh, does this mean it's time to play the traditional first-week Introductions Drinking Game? Yes! Because guess what Macro-Tactics started with? Well, not started with; there was a lecture first, but then, you bet, there were introductions. Oh, go easy on the rum, squirrels, we just got started. Kerrigan was around after class, and had Emma come see her to get made the class TA. K-Mart volunteered for the position, too, and was accepted. Max's Overview of Personal Weaponry class didn't have introductions, sorry to disappoint my furry colleagues or any of you who might be playing along. What they did have was a lecture about how punching people is improved by either brass knuckles or a roll of quarters. A roll of quarters? I'd have questions too. Really? Did anyone have Max elaborate further on this? Around the World In Fifteen Weeks had a bit of a lecture, but -- introductions too, so there you go. Take a drink! The students' introductions, and also Bond's and his TA Kyle's.

More introductions in Food Appreciation, starting with John Sheppard introducing himself during the lecture . . . about eating Cheetos. Which the class did while they introduced themselves. Orange fingers are a given. Alex Karev said something that tempted George Cooper to try Spam -- no, George, run. RUN FAR AWAY. Peter Bishop asked Ariel why she didn't like sushi; that was either an awkward question, or she just had a sudden craving for cereal right that second.

Gabrielle was in the library scribbling away on a parchment -- what, is regular paper not good enough for you? Henry welcomed her back and got a scroll written by Homer -- oh, yeah, right. That cannot possibly be real. Elphaba asked Gabrielle for help looking for books on Animals, and Henry and Sherlock got into a slightly heated discussion involving Sherlock's talk with Jono yesterday.

Meanwhile, in the teachers' wing, Professor Farnsworth gave everyone in his class a new name. Everyone's got to have a hobby, I guess.

Dorms

Whatever Shira discovered on the TV in the fifth floor common room was scary and intriguing, or maybe that was the Pepsi. Her roommate Dolf came in and had to explain TV to her; Leda agreed with Shira that reality shows are horrifying.

Kennedy was putting up posters for the reserves around the dorms this afternoon, Kate juggled jobhunting and chocolate-distributing from her room, Cara and Bruce discussed strategic gremlin use of air ducts, and Jono was in his room with some kind of hangover. His roommate George Lass checked up on him and found out why he's in the mood he is, and Raven came by to try and heal the hangover and talk him into going out for a walk. Aw, that's sweet, Raven.

George Lass ended up in the fourth floor common room later to watch Hint, and had to explain films to Elphaba before that turned into a discussion about mindless entertainment and its merits. Squall confused Elphaba by telling her it was a movie and not a TV show, and got popcorn from George, who thought he was cheerful. His reaction, paraphrased, was 'Oh yeah? Well, right back atcha!' Katniss and Elphaba talked about being nice to people with food, and people in Fandom seeming nice in general, and Katniss got popcorn and an explanation of the movie from George.

Town

It was inventory day for Ino at the clinic, and that's a busy way to start off the term. It was quiet for Ashley at Atlas Gym, though, for Price at Wellspring Arms, for Alex Russo at the Magic Box, Makita at Pixie Dust, and Dani at the Gig, which is hiring, by the way. As is Turtle and Canary, where Kate stopped in for a Squishy and ended up getting a free one from Shunsui. My favorite Monday regular, Sergeant Angua, was woeful at Detective Reese at the trooper station about her new teaching assignment, and came into Luke's Diner< /a>, and I still don't get why she wasn't that thrilled about getting a chance to teach. Okay, I sort of do.

Ender was at
Stark Industries, ready to field questions, get his usual lunchtime visit from Ben, and help William catch up to twenty-first century technology. At Dite's Decadent Delights, Karla was happy to clear up any misperceptions that it was a candy store. Are we clear on that? It's not a candy store. Raven, who wanted to share her sheer joy -- I think this in sarcastic squirrel all-caps -- about having Zatanna on the island, should be clear enough on that. Warren stopped in for lunch and . . . exchanging tropical fruit is a new euphemism. Huh. Peter Bishop came in to ponder the legal implications of their presence in the shop anywhere else but Fandom.

. . . let's not think too hard about that one.

Claudia had a low-key day at Book Haven, and Scully stopped by after taking a run on the beach to bring her coffee and hear about how Claudia thinks she's feeling worn down because of the new kids. Nico and Percy were in the park, indulging in questionable applications of Mooby Land burgers as flamingo food and talking about Percy's . . . lack of enthusiasm about Luke being here. Jaina's enthusiasm for her brand-new TV might have been dampened by the lack of stellar programming, huh?

And tonight at Caritas, it was the first day -- for Jake Doyle, who at least knows his rums since he told Tino there's a difference between white and dark rum, behind the bar. Robin -- eeeeeeeeeeeeee CONGRATULATIONS ROBIN! -- is back from her honeymoon, and brought him a present. That's a good start to a new job.

As for all of you, I hope it's off to a good start for a new school year, and for radio tryouts. Remember me when voting time comes around, okay? This is Lacey Burrows on WTFH, signing off. Good night, Fandom!
