Fandom Radio - Wednesday, August 4, 2010
"Look Fandom, let's cut to the chase here. You know and I know that this isn't really news so much as gossip. Not to knock the importance of gossip, especially in a small town like this, but every time I say 'and this is the news' I feel dirty. So tonight there is no news. There are the sordid details written down by a group of squirrels with little fedoras because they're watching now. And now that I've unnerved a good portion of Fandom's population, I'm ready to read these notes! I'm Hawkeye Pierce. You're listening to WTFH pirate radio and this is the gossip of the day.
School
Contact Sports were in support of freedom of choice today. While they didn't have a choice about whether to listen to the lecture or explain a practical application for team skills, they did get to decide whether they wanted to play soccer, hockey, basketball or lacrosse. They also had a choice about whether they wanted to speak to their teacher, Anders.
Heroes vs. Villains' discussion walked the fine line between activism and terrorizing people. They covered approaches to persuasion while TA Jono and teacher, landlord and all around swell guy Loki looked on.
Teevee for Beginners had a lecture about the nature of modern television. Then, unsurprisingly, they watched TV. Chloe was fulfilling her TA duties and Mitchell was back to teach, which Kate pointed out he seemed only too happy to do.
Carpe Diem yet again struck a chord with me, since the subject at hand was being proud of your own inner awesomeness (complete with a lecture and musical number). Other terms I would use are fantasticality, brilliance and Hawkeyeness. The latter in particular. In order to put their inner Hawkeyeness to practice, the students bragged about themselves while Drake, Bobby and Didi supervised.
John Sheppard was buried in the sand by a bobcat named Rose. Never one to shy away from his duties, he gave the sandcastle lecture for Beaching It like that. The students definitely did not laugh at him, honest and made sandcastles in the sand. I think I remember hearing a song about that on the radio the other day. Sounded Canadian. For those who weren't feeling like building anything, they lounged around, much like John and bobcat Rose.
Ahh, Competitive Cooking, both my favorite and least favorite class of the day. You make me hungry but then I'm compelled to get food, so it's a win/win situation in the end. The students schemed what to make using chocolate and then presented their food to the three judges, Piper, Angela and Hoshi. For the record, I wouldn't be opposed to guest-judging should the need arise.
In far less chocolatey news, Dan was looking at a tumblr in the library. I think someone misspelled 'tumblr' here because they left out the E. And in even less chocolatey news, Price had classical music going during his office hours.
Dorms, Cabins and On-Campus
Azula and Dinah spent their morning sparring in the gym, where Dinah revealed her lessons on how to drop buildings on people.
On a less violent note, Spree Campfire was the location for Lucky Charms, Coke and guys named Bobby. Sookie subtly asked Bobby to ask Warren if he like likes anyone. Sorry, Sookie, I think your attempt at subtlty has been thwarted by squirrels. And by Karla, who was outed as the subject of Sookie's earlier question. Though they did go on a date, so it's not a huge surprise. Ben and Sookie took on the task of determining whether chocolate should be cnsidered a vegetable or side-dish since it's made from beans. And alas, poor Ben, we hardly knew him. He's learned of sugary cereal thanks to Bobby. Okay, this is new, but we'll go with it - Ben and Karla talked about Ender's indigestion after being a komodo dragon for a while. I don't think I've ever talked about anyone else's indigestion in a non-professional capacity before. Karla soon roped Bobby into a life of crime as a sugary cereal smuggler to Karla's home where no such food exists.
In Toffee cabin, Triela made a phone call to Leto before getting a visit from Karla. Before or after that, it doesn't say, Karla was in Spree talking her favorite beau Warren about some boxes she wants him to look through.
Rosalind blocked one of the stairways into Chupa Chup to do some light reading but was interrupted by Alexander for reasons involving the throwing of books, finding common ground and singing like a pirate. Elena gave Rosalind a hard time about her choice of reading material, and now I'm curious about what it was.
Elsewhere in Gobstopper, Kate crawled into bed with Bod for completely platonic reasons, I'm told.
The magic and support kids talked about what happens when things go wrong, especially with magic that has unintended consequences. After mingling they got down to the topic at hand while the ringleaders made themselves available for whatever anyone needed.
Town
Business roll call! Shooting and reading were the activities for the day for Ino at Wellspring, Lion-o had to listen to football talk about Brett Favre at Luke's. Look, it's spelled F-A-V-R-E. Why would I pronounce it 'Farv'? That doesn't make any sense. Alexander was playing a wooden flute at Things Reborn, Dru was trying to cast out a foul smell at The Magic Box, K-Mart added office organization to her many skills at Nast Sporting Goods and there was a rainbow sale at Dite's Decadent Delights. Shunsui came a-visitin' and brought sake to share with the delightful Dite.
It was business as usual for Hannibal at Caritas. Angela theorized Hannibal's drinking was to forget about her, but I'm sure that would take more gin than Caritas has in stock. Angua denied getting into a bar-visiting routine, but previous broadcasts confirm that theory and reject Angua's denial.
And now I'm going to find something with chocolate. Goodnight!"
