Fandom Radio, June 20

Hello and good evening to you, Fandom! This is Lieutenant Archie Kennedy at the microphone-shaped wheel of Pirate Radio tonight. Don't panic, folks, I've had a strawberry daiquiri with rather too much rum, but I'm perfectly fine, I assure you. No mere tot of rum can prevent me from steering this ship straight tonight! Even though I had more rum by itself afterward. Academic studies are another matter, so it's a good thing I'm only going to tell you what went on in workshops today, rather than actually go to any myself.

Workshopping

Jay and Silent Bob's Documentary workshop learned to edit -- er, videos of feet? No, that can't be right. Footage. Yes. The students of Chloe's Writing workshop learned about poetry and were treated to the romantic rhymes of Cameron and Kawalsky.

Archery, not to be confused with Archie --that's me -- finally had the chance to shoot at moving targets today. Presumably not each other. Buffy and Dawn felt moved to compete with each other, though, while Bel and Parker discussed their respective preferences of shafts versus balls, and how well they can shoot. Nobody, to the best of my knowledge, sustained any broken bones in that class, which means that the First Aid workshop's lesson on broken bones may have to wait until another day to put what they learned to use. But since different groups learned about different types of fractures, you had best hope you're in the right company depending on whether you've sustained injuries to the jaw or neck, the arms or collarbone, the legs or ankles, or the spine or pelvis. Or you could just get smashed by a cannonball and not have the bones left to worry about. I don't recommend that, however.

Professor Ted told a story about an international spy during Campfire Songs and Stories, after which Tim regaled the group with a rousing rendition of Red Riding Hood's tale. And to cap off the class, everyone made up their own verses to "If You're Happy And You Know It." Believe me, there are some kinds of happiness that some of us can't help but know about.

*coughs*

Well, that was smurfy. But not as smurfy as the Scoobying 101 students partnering off to practice kidnapping each other and tying each other up. I'm sure many of you are now wondering why you're not in this class. God knows I am.

. . . not. I am not. Moving on, yes.

Wardroom, Sickbay, and the Chain of Command

Pippi and her very fetching hat were seen in the cafeteria today, and neither of them ended up in the clinic on either Doctor Troy's or Doctor Lambert's shifts. We shall take this as a good sign.

Professor Dean Tick held office hours but was unvisited -- you know, he's quite the adept hand with metaphors. You should drop by and appreciate this talent.

In the Insanely Busy Crew Berths

Apparently the fifth floor is the center of the universe today! This morning in the fifth floor common room, Buffy ate cereal while watching Completely Spooks, talked to Zack about his trip to Washington, DC and Blue Gremlin Strategy, whatever the hell that is, and learned from River that Berthold is hungry.

In the afternoon, when there was apparently a World Cup match between England and Sweden, people congregated in that same common room to watch and would not stop talking about football, dear God in heaven. Except perhaps River, who was staring at Willow. At any rate, Willow and Pippi were cheerful . . . er, discussing who they would cheer for, Pippi and English Peter were smacking each other? No, talking about smacking each other? Er. It had something to do with football. Peter and Willow were adorable while talking about football, Tyler apologized to Willow and also talked about football, Peter and Pippi persuaded Tyler to take sides with them, and in return Tyler asked Peter to watch out for him. Peter also met Lyta.

Pippi shared candy with Tyler and with Seras, presumably talking football with both of them as that's what bloody well everyone was doing tonight. This includes Peter and Seras, Conner and Pippi, Peter and Conner, Alec and Pippi, Alec and Tyler, Peter and Alec, and for the love of God, people, TALK ABOUT SOMETHING ELSE! Like River did: she wanted to blow things up with Tyler.

*coughs* I take back that request.

There were injuries that made Peter and Pippi wince, more cuteness and football talk from Peter and Willow, celebration of the first goal, a discussion of football nomenclature between Lyta and Willow and that is not a change of subject, yet more football discussion between Peter and Pippi at halftime, more goal celebration, yet more goal celebration, even further goal celebration, excitement, and talk about the outcome of the match. And as it culminated in a tie game between the two teams, Pippi and Peter most magnanimously consented to carry out their respective ends of their bet on the game.

No more, ladies and gentlemen, I beg of you. At least that same common room had sock puppet theater courtesy of Jamie Madrox tonight.

Up on the roof, Phoebe was watching the sunset and thankfully not talking about people kicking balls, where she was joined by Pip, Pippi who crawled up the wall, and Tim who came bearing nicknames.

In the second floor den of iniquity Bridge was . . . upgrading his dog. He chatted with Z about this, and when Conner showed up the three of them started singing. Conner and Peter -- oh, God -- talked about football and swords. I thought you lot had that out of your system by this evening. Peter met RIC, though, and talked about him with Z. Bridge and Jaye discussed RIC's upgrades, Z told Alec about her disappearing roommate, there was Jaye-Z jazz handsing, and Jaye and Peter -- not the one she hates -- met. Jaye is apparently never bored when Alec is around, and Alec's not done meeting people, as he made the acquaintance of RIC /a> and Conner tonight.

*sounds of paper rustling, crumpling, and possibly being thrown about*

More blasted football talk! Peter told Alec about his bet with Pippi on the game, and talked to Cally about football. God! Is there that much to say on the subject? Bridge showed Chloe and Cally his new toy, which sounds smurfy but hopefully has nothing to do with football, and Chloe and Jaye caught up. And Xander the Elder who is not actually old was very double-you-tee-effy about Sunnydale and time travel. I haven't a clue what that means but it's not football.

Callisto was in her room tonight, which means she avoided the football talk, Xander who has never had leaves sent email, and Seras and Sakurazaki made one another's acquaintance. Greg was wandering around and investigated a closet at Anakin, Alec, Molly and Dean's behest. And now he's a hedgehog. I hope you lot of enablers are happy with yourselves. Bent over the gunbreech and caned, I tell you. As for you, Greg, welcome to the ranks of Fandom High's "once I was an animal" crew. You've plenty of company.

On a quiet evening in her room, Isabel talked to Cedric and to Jack about her Fourth of July plans, and was visited by Molly and a small, spiky Greg. Sakurazaki, however, seemed to be rather agitated in the fourth floor common room.

And the gym was busy. Good God. Cameron was there in the morning, carrying on Veronica's self-defense lessons. Peter, who I have yet to hear sing "Rule Britannia," took in sword practice and talked to Tyler about Cameron before Anders taught him to play Pyramid. You get hit in the head too much, Samuel. That's why you have the strange dreams you talked about with Cameron.

Peter and Pip had a training session in the gym this afternoon, and in the evening Aeryn and Tyler talked about how everyone here has a History. With a capital H, according to my notes.

And that's quite enough talking about strenuous activity, thank you very much. All this football talk has sobered me up, damn you all.

On Shore Leave

Nadia had lunch at Cafe Fina, where Walter had to clean the kitchen with a toothbrush. If that's anything like holystoning the deck, you have my sympathies. Willow and Pippi availed themselves of music at Empire Records, and both Sparky Repairs and All and Sundries were open. Caritas was open as well, though rather quiet, and I'm not complaining much about that.

Doctor Pevensie and Peter had a talk at Jeff, the God of Biscuits, and John and Aeryn headed off-island for some baby shower shopping. Gwynn and Tim were at Serenity Cove, where River made a brief visit. Clark was looking for Artie at the docks, though I don't know if he found him.

Jarod had something to show Parker at the Fourth Sin, where Becky and GOB were both seen going upstairs. Well now. I'll let you draw your own conclusions on that, as I need to go and find some more rum to chase all this football talk out of my head.

Or possibly just sleep. Yes. At any rate, this is Archie Kennedy signing off now, wishing you all a fair wind, clear skies, and wondering when the World Cup will be over.

Veronica facepalmed a lot and made a mental note to never try making daquiris again.

Cordy growled when she heard about Buffy and Zack talking. Then she wondered why she was growling and carried on with what she was doing.
