Fandom Radio, July 1

Hi everybody, happy Thursday, and happy July! July already. Wow. I'd ask where the time went, but in Fandom, do you really want to know the answer? Oh, gosh, I crack me up, right, guys?

*dispassionate acorn-crunching noises*

. . . right.

School

School notes? It's break week. Why do we have school notes? Oh. Because Anakin was actually in his office working on his next class, and got a visit from Max about last week's incident with Raven, Karla, and Aphrodite. The squirrels report no actual bloodshed, but very loud raised voices are probably a safe bet.

Dorms

It was pretty quiet for you kids, too, even with Claudia trying to make waffles in the third floor common room with Asuna there to witness the waffle iron experiment and contribute an, er, egg malfunction to the batter. Kurt and Asuna exchanged greetings, and Claudia told Kurt she was doing the waffle iron a favor by making it better.

Someone follow up with that waffle iron tomorrow?

This evening, Effy and Alex were up on the roof smoking, discussing Griff's well-being, and very emphatically not doing anything that could be described as brooding.

*chittering*

What? No, the notes don't say anything about brooding going on anyway, and I'm not going to assume it. Stop editorializing.

*thunk*

Ow.

Alice Liddell found a portal home in her roommate's closet, and when said roommate, Kyle, came in to find her with a foot in the closet to keep the portal open he was nice enough to pack her things for her and see her on her way. I know you can't hear me now, but bye, Alice! Safe trip. Bod maximized his laziness time on a week designed for laziness by reading in his room. Kate had a conversation with him about drinking habits and bar adventures that sounds like it could have been really interesting . . . hopefully her turning into a cat didn't make it a cliffhanger. Unless Bod speaks cat. Which I am, again, not assuming. Jacob was being as lazy as his roommate, although he had ideas about . . . okay, I'm only reporting what I'm being given here, okay? This is not an endorsement. Ideas about breaking into the principal's office and TPing it, to liven up the week. Again, not an endorsement. MJames was in his room getting dressed for a trip to the beach.

Momoko was enjoying her own birthday cupcakes, and so was her cat. She got a phone call from Dinah, and a visit from Jaime, which sounds like a nice relaxed birthday to me.

Town

Wow. The beach will become relevant shortly, but first let's make the rounds of town businesses, shall we? Okay! It was raining candy at Stark Industries, though no reports of whether Hiccup ended up with a sugar high. Helen was at the Gig, Millie was being, and I quote, storekeepy at Book Haven, Scully spent her clinic shift reading medical journals, and Jack Priest had his last shift at Cabot and Associates, where Alex Cabot teased him about how he couldn't get fired on his last day for slacking off. He did go and have a last date with Emma up on the Rocky Bits tonight, though. Aww, it always makes me all sniffly when bunches of you kids go home all at once. Hayley . . . was escorted out of town by Gotham City police, but not before saying goodbye to Karla, Raven, who found out Hayley didn't have a choice in the matter, Leda, Hinata stoically, Momoko who wished it didn't have to be before the summer was over, and Dru who brought her food for the trip home.

At the Arms, Hoshi found out the waffles she got from Gunther were not special except in the frozen-Eggo-type way. Gunther, that? Is just cruel. Dani's computer problems at the trooper station are why Angua doesn't use computers, evidently; the vuvuzelas that Lindsay added to the soccer display at Nast Sporting Goods were a hit with Lion-O, who got some to send home. Just two, not enough to make it sound like a horde of angry bees. Tara had a busy day at the Magic Box, when she wasn't playing with tarot decks: Peter came in looking for academic information on magic, and he's lucky he got helped after insulting witchcraft in front of her. Kennedy brought Tara lunch and metaphorical sugar and squirrels, we're going to need to talk about your excessive vowel use in these notes, okay?

*thunk* Or not. Raven came in for some help with a last-minute birthday present for Sookie.

Because Sookie got a giant tiki birthday party thrown for her on the beach, courtesy of Karla, Emma, and Bobby. The requisite mingling included Peter, who hopefully didn't insult the tiki torches when Karla explained they were running on magic, met Ariel for the first time as a non-Lego person, told Bobby the party looked great, and made plans to hit the gun range with Scully. Ariel's seashell bikini was a hit -- even if it does sound uncomfortable. Karla talked to her about going swimming and how her home is landlocked, Bobby had better not have been staring at Ariel's seashells, and Rinoa thought they were a brave fashion statement. There is definitely some kind of courage involved there. Dan got -- oh, ha ha, tiki party, I get it -- lei'd by Karla, and cheered on by Bobby for dressing appropriately for the party. Karla and Raven had a huggy conversation checking up on each other, and James told Karla she looked better than the last time he'd seen her. Karla and Bobby, meanwhile, celebrated their party-planning success. Bobby was happy to see Kyle and Kurt there, and complimented Raven, who was getting a little adventurous with the white clothing tonight. James commented on her appearance, too. Tahiri got a lei -- I am not falling for your pun again, squirrels -- from Karla too so she'd be festive enough, and talked to Ben about how it was a good thing they didn't wear the same outfit and end up that weird couple that matches clothes. Ben and his swimwear, according to Karla, should make public appearances together more often. Jonas had nice things to say about Rilla's summer dress and hat, and caught up with Karla when she complained she hadn't seen him in too long.

Kennedy wasn't wearing anything with feathers, much to Karla's disappointment, but she did compliment Bobby on the party-planning and talk to Dru about next term's classes. Tara had some nice words for Bobby about the party too, had an awkward conversation with Scully about their first meeting at Caritas a couple of weeks ago, and had Kennedy volunteer to be her personal cabana girl. Bod was there with Kate-the-cat, which got him a conversation with Bobby about this latest animal transformation, and a lot of excitement from Ariel even after Bod explained that it was Kate. Bobby and Emma were pleased with themselves for the party's success, and Emma got a lei from Karla which may or may not have also been congratulatory. Jason got teased by Kennedy about whether he missed being in a cabin full of girls, and Kurt got teased by Dru for showing up in sunglasses.

They really went all out with the food for the party, although Ariel looked a little queasy about all of it and Rilla had to check up on her. Bobby, en route to a shady spot, racked up more congratulations from Rinoa and Scully on the party. With an open tiki bar, I'd say the party definitely warrants all that praise. It was Jack Priest's last party in Fandom, and he spent part of it flirting with Karla.

There were games too: card games, limbo, a pinata, and Pin the Frond on the Palm Tree. Kissing games, too, because the squirrels' opinion is that Karla and Emma are incorrigible. Everyone greeted the birthday girl, of course, and as any good birthday party does, presents and cake had their place.

Over at the Perk this evening, Sophie had a conversation with Dani about her computer problems and caught up with Max about recent goings-on. Max and Aphrodite were later seen heading off-island. Chuck was in a possibly-liquor-enabled good mood at Caritas, where Faith came in for an unspecified number of drinks after getting back from a trip.

Wow. That was actually a lot to report for a quiet week, huh? That's kind of nice, actually.

Well, everyone, it's been fun as always, even with a little rodent hostility in the booth. Until next Thursday, this is Lacey Burrows signing off, and wishing you a pleasant night, Fandom!
