Fandom Radio, Tuesday, October 22nd
Hey, what up Fandom, it's me, ya girl Arden Finch, coming at you live from the beautiful Fairmont Le Château Frontenac, in Québec City, Québec. I don't know how to pronounce most of the French stuff but I did get yelled at by a random old lady for calling it Kwa-bek, when I guess it's supposed to be Kay-bek? Keh-bek? Something like that. Anyway, learn from my mistakes and don't get accosted by random people on the street. I'm sure if I'd understood more than half of what she'd been saying, I would have been less surprised and more offended.
Anyway, that segment of Good Advice From Your Radio Host over, let's check out the news. On the island, Officer McGarrett was scouring the Trooper Station, and the squirrels have written Sublimation and underlined it three times. They...might be on to something, because once Officer McGarrett got home, Officer Williams took a break from messily making bread - squirrel commentary, not mine - to get him to talk about why he was so upset. And I'm just going to skip right over to the Devil's Nest, because that conversation is none of our business. Though it's possible that Tiny was also sublimating something, based on the intricate Halloween mandala he was making on the floor.
...Okay, so it sounds like the island gets weird when the school is on break.
Fortunately here in Québec there's plenty to keep up occupied, even beyond getting yelled at by perfect strangers. This morning, everybody woke up in their presumably-assigned rooms and reacted to the morning differently, and I guess rather than having me read notes about everyone, they're giving me a selection of curated hotel room notes. This is so weird, y'all. Anyway, Professor Vess surprised Professor Scientia by being awake and working on an itinerary by the time he got home from his workout. Apparently how I woke up was apparently entertaining enough to warrant a mention, and I maintain it wasn't funny, we were just startled; Dean had his butler - there are butlers?! - press his jeans and flannel...that just seems oddly disrespectful to the butler. Stewart - hi Stewart! - kept making the housekeeping think he was dead, but I think by accident, and Professor Sims enjoyed lounging in his bathrobe in the main room of his suite, while Belle got my text about zipline adventures and hurried to get ready. Several people availed themselves of breakfast, with Mr. Blackwood and Ms. Belova arguing over who was the more annoying roommate, Professor Argentum introducing Little Miss to French-Canadian cuisine, and Lydia - hi, Lydia! - being impressed by the quality of the fare.
There were plenty of amenities to enjoy in the hotel, of course. Ms. Belova enjoyed a relaxing spa day after her argument with Mr. Blackwood, and Professor Amicitia was joined at the gym by Ms. Nell and they planned a trip whale watching. Outside of the hotel, a bunch of people left to go on Dean Skywalker's Hop On Hop Off Bus Tour. Mr. Blackwood introduced himself to the Dean, and Professor Smith and Professor Not-The-Rich-One-Stark took pictures and agreed to wander the city a bit, while also taking a second to say hello to the dean. For himself, Dean Skywalker didn't seem to have a problem following the French tour guide, which probably means he didn't get accosted by random people on the street. Professor Argentum and Little Miss were also on the tour, taking pictures, with Mr. Blackwood asking if the trips were always like this - as far as I can tell, the answer is yes, except for when a theme park crashes into your hotel - and, of course, Mrs. Argentum was there, too, happy that Little Miss was old enough to enjoy the trip itself. Gray - hi Gray! - Beta, Professor Cutter, and Lydia also caught the tour, before finding other things to explore in the city.
For folks out and about, there was a ton of great places to get something to eat! Professor Vess and Professor Scientia went on the Foor Tour together, and chatted with Raiden - hi, Raiden! - about other restaurants to check out while they're here. And about why Raiden's suite only has a butler and not a dining room....Yeah, I got nothing for that. I brought a bunch of folks to Le Chic Shack for burgers and homemade sodas and different kinds of poutine. Dean, if you want a new burger place to try, hit this place, up, it's so good. Kamala double-checked that everything on the menu was halal, and threatened to eat the whole menu when she found out that it was, while Eleanor hopefully convinced her to stick to the food and not the literal menu. And Graham was putting his lessons in knightly tactics to the test, figuring out how to get the most milkshake bang for his buck.
Outside the school's planned activities, there were plenty of other things to try. I texted folks to come join me on an adventure park zipline tour that was so awesome, I can't even. Charlie assured me her aunties probably wouldn't randomly show up just because we were in Canada. Graham and I tried to make a schedule around ziplines and lunch, while he and Charlie got really excited about the Aerial Game Trek and...aww. Said some really nice things about me. Thanks guys! Unlike my nice friends, Kamala showed up for no other reason to be a brat at me and that's all I'm gonna say about that conversation, though she was much sweeter to Ellie and planned some activities for them to do together. I also got some suggestions for activities from Ellie for times when we're looking to do quieter, more relaxed stuff. I see I wasn't the only one getting sassed by Kamala, since Cal got teased by her, too - no reason, doesn't matter - and I told him how I fell in love with ziplining in New Zealand and he reminded me he owed me one more dinner from all my paintball wins, and so we agreed to look for a cool restaurant today. And now there's glitter all over the room, which I am not looking forward to explaining to housekeeping, thanks Jimothy. Belle was excited for her first adventure ziplining, but also excited about Ellie's suggestion of the Literary Society, so that's definitely going on our to-do list.
Outside of our trip to Arbraska Chauveau, Professor Vess and Professor Scientia visited Notre-Dame de Québec Basilica-Cathedral to explore the crypts beneath it because that's Professor Vess's idea of a good date. I've got no notes about the authorities getting called or anything, so I'm gonna assume that either nothing happened or anything that did happen was very discreet and, honestly I'm pretty sure that's the best that anyone can ask for.
*squirrely chittering*
What? No, I meant any possible necromancy, goddess! I don't even wanna think--OH LOOK! HERE'S SOME STUFF WE DID IN THE EVENING.
Oh thank the goddess, so many fewer notes. This broadcast is already so long and for once it's not my fault. Back at the hotel, Steph got her hot stone massage on, while a bunch of other people ended up checking out Ghost Tours. Gray and Stewart wandered by themselves, with Stewart...probably accidentally making people think he was a ghost? Steven and Watts - hello Steven! Hello Detective! - went on the tour together, and were entirely adorable about it, both of them glad they came on the trip. Professor Not-The-Rich-One-Stark popped over to say hello to them, with Steven checking in to make sure he'd be okay if they did see any ghosts, and Watts talked about seeing metaphorical ghosts - glimpses into the past that the stories are meant to capture. Graham and Belle were hopefully going to keep each other from getting too spooked, and Professor Smith decided that going to a ghost tour with Professor Not-The-Rich-One-Stark was pretty much cheating. And Professor Vess and Professor Scientia skipped out on the ghost tour for the Onhwa' Lumina, which I have no confidence I'm pronouncing correctly, which is a night walk featuring a First Nations multimedia presentation, which sounds pretty baller.
But, okay, that was a lot, even keeping my additional commentary to a minimum, so this is ya girl, Arden Finch, signing off. I'm gonna leave you with Austin Georgio's You Put A Spell On Me to get your day started right. I can't believe I forgot I was doing a Halloween playlist last week, I'm ashamed. I'll see the rest of you out and about in a bit; I'm going to dip back to bed for a bit--
*accusatory chittering*
--I did not overdo it yesterday! Talking a lot is just really tiring! Ignore the nosy rodents, Fandom, and have a great day!
