WTFH Pride Radio, Friday Afternoon (6/10)
Right about the same time as last week, music started playing over the local airwaves.
"Denizens of Fandom! That was 'Molecules' by Hayley Kiyoko, I'm Steph Gingrich, and you're listening to Pride month radio right here on WTFH. What's up, everybody? It's about to be the weekend again, and that means we've got one more week until Fandom's very own Pride festival happens. If you want to get involved, there's still time to make it happen! Hit me up, we'll work it out. Also, I want to say, everybody who's gotten into this with decorations and all that? You rock. It's amazing.
So, more about that. Want to know what one of the coolest things about Pride is? Hanging out with a bunch of other queer people. 'But Steph,' you say, 'isn't that literally every day here?' To which I say: 'Yeah, obviously, but Pride is the really loud kind of hanging out. We're not having quiet group study time here. Like, the actual point is existing loudly, in numbers, because guess what? We do and if it makes some people uncomfortable that we're not pretending that we don't? Good. Let's make 'em super uncomfortable, look amazing in the process, and have a hell of a lot of fun doing it.
And here's the part where I admit my original plan for this was to do a lot more stuff about queer history, but that's, like, entire semesters' worth of material and I'm not a qualified historian, just a nerd who likes to hit things with sticks and happens to be pretty good at hosting radio shows. But. It's important, and I totally encourage people to learn about it. People busted their asses to get us this far -- hell, a lot of that happened in my lifetime -- and shouldn't be forgotten. Look stuff up on the internet. Get somebody to help you with that if you need to, because, uh... it's the internet. Getting good information can be tricky if you're not used to it, and that's how people end up telling the entire town's social media page that they superglued their hand to a taxidermy animal instead of searching for how to, you know. Fix that."
*chittering*
"Yeah, that might very definitely have been based on someone I know."
*chittering*
"I'm pretty sure it wasn't a squirrel."
*chittering*
"No, I've never glued my hand to a pine cone -- what does that have to do with anything?
Anyway. Hell, we've got a library here, too, right? Hit that. Find out more about some seriously badass people. Just... heads up, some of it can get pretty heavy, so take care of yourselves while you do your research, okay?
And just to share a little anecdote? I was super nervous about going to Pride for the first time. So if anybody's nervous about participating, don't worry, you're totally not alone. I went with my older cousin, and I was so stressed out about not fitting in and not looking cool enough to be there, or not knowing what all the flags meant. And then I realized he didn't know what all of them meant either. You don't have to know. You don't have to take a quiz to prove you know enough to be there. He told me, 'You don't need to fit in. You're right where you belong.' And that's always stuck with me. If you're queer, if you fit in on this huge diverse spectrum in any way, you belong here. And *BLEEP* anyone who tries to tell you otherwise.
I'll be opening the phone lines for a bit, and after that, stay tuned for another block of queer tunes. Until next week, this is Steph, telling you to go out there and make some bigot's day miserable by being you. But hey -- if you don't feel comfortable enough to be out yet? That's cool too."
[OOC: Minor OCD is up, and comments should work this week!]

Re: Call In/React!
Guess who, Steph.
Re: Call In/React!
"Hey, this is WTFH, you're on the air with Steph!"
Re: Call In/React!
He loved being on the radio!
Re: Call In/React!
And did it have anything to do with giant electrified sledgehammers?
Re: Call In/React!
"Meep meep meep," Beaker began, then hummed a bit of "Bohemian Rhapsody", "meep meep meep meep?"
Re: Call In/React!
Re: Call In/React!
There was now a sound of frantic hammering.
Re: Call In/React!
"Uh. Everything okay over there, bro, or... ?"
That was a lot of hammering.
Re: Call In/React!
Re: Call In/React!
"Dude, maybe you should be calling the fire department instead of the radio station?"
Re: Call In/React!
Maybe he was just running to the firehouse?
