"Ah, hello. I suppose this is the right place, then."
*sound of shuffling paper*
"Thank you. Er...no, thank you. It's a bit early for me to be drinking." (muttered) "or up at all."
*long indrawn breath*
"Right. Jonathan Sims here. Yesterday morning the sun rose in vibrant and surreal colors, shimmering ominously over the island. Suits and dresses appeared from nowhere in everybody's closet, and fancy golf carts appeared on the lawn for the students, while the adults got a sensible Honda Accord each... (distantly) wait, we all have cars now? ... Of course we do. (back to the mic) We still can't bring them here, but I suppose that will come in handy on the mainland. For those of you who can drive in America, anyway.
"Every student was convinced they were turning sixteen, regardless of their actual age or birthday, and what they saw in their closets and on the lawn was an illusion of the perfect party accoutrements.
"Belle spoke to the empty air in the third floor common room while having breakfast, and Tahani threatened to throw herself from the roof if her conditions were not met. Alexis declared that nobody else could have a party if she was, and she and Belle argued in front of dead air. Troy also argued against concurrent parties, and he and Belle had it out over the proper treatment of books. Jo enjoyed bragging about her outfit and party until finding out about all the others going on.
"This cannot end well.
"In the afternoon, Octavia cleaned her boat, checking everything, before Lucifer arrived with peach iced tea, and they had a quiet moment.
"Meanwhile, I -" (distant) I appreciate your diligence, but I'm unlikely to forget what I did yesterday; you really don't need to leave me notes about it."
*chittering*
"Erm, well..." *sigh* "Very well, carry on. I thank you for your professionalism."
(back to the mic)
"And I was at home, available in case anybody needed me, although thankfully nobody did. I'm still not certain what an 'on-site manager' is supposed to do, precisely.
"Then last night, the party happened. Everybody had the same party, and all the students thought it was theirs. Students arrived in their golf carts or other contrivances, each convinced it was their ultimate dream of conveyance. Tahani thought her alot...that's...right. Never mind...was an elephant, so heaven only knows what the others thought they were arriving in or on. While each could see through the others' delusions, nobody saw through their own. The adults that showed up seemed more lucid, fortunately. Steve and Tony discussed old parties and being attracted to older men. There were dancing and cake, gifts of similarly delusional cars, and dark corners where people lurked.
"This morning, fortunately, the delusions seem to have passed, although the arguments, animosity, and golf carts and cars remain."
*chittering*
"Hm? No, I didn't go. I'm not really one for parties."
*chittering*
"No, I didn't wear the suit, although I suppose if it hasn't eaten or destroyed anything else, I can keep it for later. I mean, a suit's a suit, really."
*chittering*
"Why would I - It's not that old, it looks fine!"
*chittering*
"I'm only thirty-one!" *long-suffering sigh* "Look, I'm heading for tea or coffee or something, if you're quite done with me now? Thank you."
