Fandom Radio, Sunday, May 3rd

... I've just actually been dragged to the bloody radio station in order to do a call-in show. Here I am, at the radio station, with a stack of notes in front of me, and I'm on my phone because it is literally the only thing on the island that can pick up my voice.

I could've stayed in bed for this. Rolled over when I was done and gone right back to sleep. Watched my cat try to catch the squirrels.

And therein lies the reason I'm here and not there, I suppose. Here, just give me the bloody notes, would you?

*WHUMP*

... Ah... ha. Right. Good, then. Er. I'll read this smaller piece here with the town things and the inevitable assortment of people wandering lost around the island not knowing how they got here, then, before moving along to the picnic. Sound good?

*Chittering!*

Good. So, starting with what was possibly the only thing going on in the dorms yesterday that didn't involve new students moving in, Ezra was removing welcome picnic glitter from himself in front of a mirror in his room when Ronan dropped by to talk about glitter and life plans or something of the sort. That wasn't what I was expecting to be reading, I'll admit. Must not be that sort of glitter.

Out by the reserve, Alluka and her stuffed bunny fell through a portal and were quite delighted to be here. That's when I found them, at any rate, and met Alluka's, er... friend? Sister? Nanika. Without going too into details, here... if you ever meet Nanika, give her exactly what she asks of you. Just trust me on this. You can even ask for it back afterwards. Actually, maybe that would be best. Ask for it back. I probably should've, in hindsight. Stop looking at me like that, squirrels, I know I'm rambling now and I'll just read the next bloody note. About Clarke, who also found herself in the preserve. As one does.

Really, we end up with more students that way...

In town, at the Arms Hotel, Mary let Gunther experiment with salad dressing. So, if you're feeling like healthy food today, head to the hotel. There's probably plenty left. Ender dropped in there, not for a salad, but to set up a room for himself and Ben for the summer. Ah yes, summer! Welcome back, Ender, Ben.

Literally everything else in this mound of papers is from the picnic. Some squirrel must have very sore wrists right now. At any rate, new students met with their assigned siblings, which is how I've met some of my best friends over the years here, you know. Anyway, Lottie needed Kathy to assure her that she's in America, not France, which is something that happens, yes. Sorry, Lottie. Raven's little sibling Jasper is from 'down south' and this is the farthest he's ever been from home. Ezra's sibling Jesse doesn't believe in talking ponies yet, but he will. And they're pink, at that. Edward really had no idea what to make of Tali's appearance, which is funny from a lad who goes to a school with classes taught by the aforementioned pink pony. Welcome to the island, Tali, whatever you may look like. Dipper's big sibling, Cosette, didn't know what to make of the goat Dipper had with him. Which... is also not actually that unusual. Maybe the goat is a student as well.

*Chittering*

The squirrels assure me that the goat is not a student, and that the goat, in fact, ate the note that was written to inform you all that the goat is not a student. Some goats have no respect for the hard work of others, I suppose. Thorin and Elsa were, and I quote, 'both super regal at each other,' and Rapunzel was on the other end of the spectrum, flailing at her sibling Ada, who handed her excitability with grace. Anders got to meet little ray-of-sunshine Alluka, and Anders, if you have a minute sometime, perhaps you could stop by the music shop? It's, er, important. It's important. Ronan, charming lad, made fun of Clarke's name. On an island where we have had people named ridiculous things like Pinkie, and Sparkle, and Ronan.

Kira's little sibling, Blue, discussed how they're both practically local, here. Is that compared to those of us from other continents, or the ones from other worlds, I wonder? Mabel had plenty of questions for Vider, and they talked about places to go shopping, as most of Mabel's things are apparently at the top of a deep hole. Ringo needed Face to track her down, which really shouldn't be that embarrassing. Welcome picnic day is rather disorienting, after all.

Anyway, after that fuss and bother, people got to meet their Roommates. They're coed living arrangements, by the way, as Dipper and Lottie found out. Thorin and Blue mostly just figured the school was grouping off people by size. Which for all I know might be a new thing the office moose is trying. Jesse gets to room with Alluka, and I might need to have a chat with him about things... because of... reasons. As well. Once I figure out who the sodding hell he is. Ugh, new faces. Cosima and Ada discussed recreation and dehumidifiers, which are not two topics of conversation I would've put side by side, I'll admit. Ringo and Jasper were joining the crowd who were surprised at the coed arrangements, Eric was thrilled to meet Mabel's pet pig, Waddles, and Jalian made certain that Tali was going to be comfortable during her stay here.

The Teachers also had a place at the picnic for students to meet them, and for once I actually wasn't among them. Shame on me, I suppose. Maybe next time. Hardison was nervous about the teaching thing, but had Eliot there to talk him down, and Parker there to assure him that the kids probably don't eat teachers. Probably. Jones was less reassuring, since apparently he felt compelled to ask if she's a robot. And... all of the squirrels here just took a shot. Huh.

Eliot and Washington apparently didn't get along so well. Atton told Cara to text him if any of the newbies started to freak out. Which also happens from time to time. Ben and Obi-Wan chatted about what they were teaching. Jones promised Washington that he doesn't need the suit, which didn't exactly prompt him to take it off. Hardison wanted to know all about the suit, which is funny coming from a man who just accused Jones of being a robot. And Anakin told him about how graduation went. Oh, Anakin. That's bloody mean.

Brian was concerned about having nowhere here to drive, but Irene assured him that at least there's still the Danger Shop. Or... you could cross the causeway. There are actual roads on the other side of the causeway. For cars to drive on. I promise. I'll be taking my motorbike that way fairly often this summer, in fact. Ben and Ender both determined that Mara wasn't around, but approved of the new flock, at any rate. Alluka asked Zoe if she could have permission to go into town, and Ben and Brian talked mechanics. And hopefully about where to find things like roads. Which do exist out there, I promise you.

And then... there was more picnicing. With glitter. Welcome to Fandom Island. We have that. Kathy was waving at everybody, and who she attracted was Dipper, who told her about how he fell into a hole. As one does. Kathy and Anders discussed little siblings, and the similarities between Orlesian and French. Parker drilled Kathy on what she knows about Raven, since there were TA things afoot, or something like that.

Hanna and Alluka... ate glitter. Oh, Alluka, Sunshine, no. Ringo rightly wondered if it was safe to eat, and I can't imagine it's terribly good for you, no. That didn't stop Hanna from speculating to Kathy that eating glitter is better than eating grubs. And I'd argue that at least the grubs have some manner of nutritional content and are less likely to gum up your digestive tract.

Raven was watching people's reactions to Pinkie, as one does. Like Ringo, who was offered a cupcake by the pony. I kind of enjoy how normal these things begin to sound after a while here. Kathy used contortionism as a conversation starter into talk about powers. As one does. Dipper's attempts at scientific observation of the pony were met with a cupcake, while Alluka was mostly just excited on account of the talking pink pony. Naturally.

Cassandra refused to look at Face while he was shirtless, which I'll remind people is welcome picnic tradition, while Ben went the complete opposite direction with it and asked to have his picture taken with him. There's apparently still somebody in the universe that can leave a Skywalker starstruck, hm, Ben? Ezra applauded Face's shirtlessness, Kathy thanked him for it, and Cassandra and Thorin mostly just agreed that they hate being stuck here, before Cassandra told Anders to chat up Thorin as well.

Isabelle complained to Edward about the glitter, but he wasn't terribly sympathetic. Kathy encouraged Ezra to embrace the shirtless tradition, and something something knife throwing turns her on or something like that. I'm not here to judge. Rapunzel asked Thorin if he had ever met Santa's elves, or the Keebler elves. I'm going to need more context before I determine whether questions like those are actually rude. Around here it could go either way. Thorin told Anders about how dwarves and elves don't get along at all. Which is good to know. Which of the two is Thorin, so that I'm not unwittingly racist or something at him if we ever cross paths?

*Chitter*

... I'm not completely convinced that he's one of Santa's elves, no matter what this squirrel is trying to tell me. At any rate, he and Kaylin talked about the food, and how she's sort of a soldier. Ish. I would've guessed more like a cop, going from conversations we've had before. My bad. Cosima asked Dipper about all the note-taking he was doing, and they talked about how they wound up on the island. Jesse was having trouble wrapping his head around all this, which is fairly normal for the first day here, and asked Ringo how she was doing. Rapunzel and Raven talked about body armour and space knights, which... eh, normal enough Fandom conversation. Dipper worried that asking Rapunzel about her hair is rude, though I imagine she hears it a lot.

A shell-shocked Clarke got greetings and introductions from Face, Cosima, and Ringo, and there was a lot of talk about being lost and not actually meaning to be here on the island.

Kathy thought that Jasper was Isaac, which means we have our first doppelganger report. Welcome to Fandom, where people sometimes look eerily like other people. Jasper and Ada talked about the camouflage properties of glitter here on Fandom, which, you know, I never really considered? Kira and Ringo introduced themselves, since it's a small island and Kira figured out easily enough that Ringo is new. Kathy gave Kira a brownie and talked about cute boys - ones who throw knives, Kathy? Or just ones without shirts on? Meanwhile, Ronan was telling Ezra to 'eat a dick.' Which might also have more nutritional value than glitter, so I'm going to pretend that instead of being a complete arsehole, he was simply looking out for Ezra's health and well-being.

But really, he was probably just being a complete arsehole.

Alluka was thrilled about the glitter, and was even more exited when Edward told her about dances. Ringo wasn't so certain about the glitter, and I doubt she was quite as excited about the prospect of living and breathing the stuff as Alluka was, though Alluka did find herself a glitter-companion in Mabel. And Waddles, the pig. Kathy mostly just worried about how glittery the stuffed rabbit was going to be, and talked with Alluka about the portal she fell through to get here.

Clint and Tony had fascinating conversations about impressionable new students and homicidal AI. As you do. Ezra shirtlessly introduced himself to Cosima as a fox. A literal fox. Because of course. Hardison talked to Cosima about how he and his companions used to work with her parents' friend, and I really have to wonder how many degrees of separation one needs before they stop getting excited. Quite a few around here I suppose.

Anders and Nathan talked about having been here a year without being dragged away, and I hope Nathan wasn't right when he said Anders jinxed it. I really do. Kitty asked Tony for a glitter vaccuum, but there was nothing he could do for her. I had Hannibal take a look at my hand, because I sort of-- there was something of a, er. It was bleeding. He bandaged me up, anyway. Good as new, more or less. Oh, look! Alluka got to meet Cecil's bird! I hope that went well!

... Hopefully better than Raven's attempt to talk Jalian into going shirtless. With pasties. I. Ladies, what. Oh dear. Ringo was just interested in Jalian's hair, so I'm assuming her shirt remained on. And then Ringo went on to bond with Eric about looking as lost as she felt. Hopefully that feeling will pass before long.

Dani showed up on horseback, not to be confused with pink ponyback, which delighted and fascinated both Alluka and Ringo. Who Kathy introduced herself to. Because again, lost. And then, wrapping this all up tidily, Irene and Kitty talked about how Kitty isn't teaching, but Irene is covering sex again.

And it's entirely possible that'll be the most normal class being taught around here this summer.

I think that's all the notes, so I'm going to pack away my phone now, and perhaps try to crawl back into bed. More likely I'll end up jogging or something before I open the music shop instead, though. I'm awake now, after all. Take care, Fandom. And please, don't eat the glitter.
