Fandom Radio, Tuesday, September 16th
The sun is growing, the grass is soft, and the squirrels are high. Welcome to Fandom.
Good morning, Listeners; Cecil here. And wow, it looks like everybody was busy yesterday! I hope you all had a wonderful time.
*chittering*
Well, I can tell you did.
In classes yesterday, Technology and You learned how to use phones and tablets, called and texted each other to try them out, and downloaded things from the app store to play with.
Public Service took a field trip to Edge, which sounds a lot less fun. Everybody hung out waiting for the portal, where Kathy checked with Barry to see if he needed to talk about the weekend. He said he might later, and also that he kissed Elsa. Yay! Kathy and Minako bonded over being prepared, and Kathy asked if she was a Girl Scout, but Minako didn't know what that was! Oh, no, really? I'm so sorry. Scouting is such a wonderful opportunity! How else can you get your Controlling Plants with Minds badge?
Once they got to Edge, Reno explained it all, and apparently there was something about dragons? Oo, I wonder if that's where Hiram McDaniels is from! Then students got to wander around or whatever, with Barry taking samples, Minako offering to help him, and Karina checking in on Kathy and vice versa.
Kathy asked Reno why people weren't happy to see them, and Reno admitted he worked for the company that helped ruin the place, so it's him they weren't really happy with, and I should think so; that's not very nice. Then Karina asked him what he did, but he deflected to start preparing for where they're going next week. Someone was a scout, and earned a Deflecting Interest badge, I bet!
In How to be a Hired Gun, the students met at the junkyard, where they all had crates with their names on them that they had to hide, to learn how to hide cargo. Raven couldn't move hers, so she transformed into something stronger, which really confused Jayne, and Sparkle tried to flag down a rickshaw to hide his crate elsewhere - oo, good idea! - which Jayne did not approve of. Probably because he has no imagination. Then everyone tried to find each other's crates.
The dorms were really busy, too! In the second floor common room, Alana and Sparkle threw a StuCo campaign party. Oh! Student Council! Um. Vote for me for sophomore, okay? I promise things will keep on...well, pretty much exactly as they are! Even if I can't offer sparkler-topped cupcakes, and music, and cheesy sci-fi movies on TV.
People mingled, Raven showed up in a dress that was probably completely awesome, and Alana complimented it and said it was the perfect thing to do today because Mondays suck. Sparkle was thrilled that Raven showed up, because they're both really cool, and he loved the dress, because it had bubbles on it, and bubbles are great. Raven said she thought the next party should involve bubbles, but then why wait? So they tried to improvise their own bubble wands and bubble solution right then.
Celia was all fancy in a dress from her time, and she and Raven loved each others' dresses. Celia was also pretty impressed that Raven was mimicking the dress, not actually wearing one, and wanted to know how she does it. I know, right? I'm really jealous of all the laundry money saved. Alana thanked Celia for showing up and asked how she was doing, which is apparently tired, but better. Celia teased her about the campaign and suggested that Alana campaign on the slogan of not fucking up because she's done this before. Then Alana adopted the slogan on the spot, which is a shame, because I'd love to use it! Then Sparkle brought Celia a cupcake and she promised to force her senior friends to vote for him. He offered to light the sparkler on the cupcake for her, and well, who turns that down, right?
Gwen showed up, too, and got offered a cupcake by Alana, who asked what year she's in - she's a junior. Which is good because that means she can vote for Alana! Gwen said she's easily bribed - just like a real voter! - and was impressed by the lengths people are going to for this. Sparkle offered her a cupcake, too, and she was impressed by how it comes with pyrotechnics. Gwen pointed out that this was totally going to make it on radio, well duh, and he should take advantage of that. Smart thinking! But Sparkle was the one who decides to - oh! Who decided to bribe me! I never got a bribe yet, though, so if you're planning on it, you'd better step it up, Sparkle!
Johnny also showed up, because of course, and got ogled by Alana, who did make sure he's a junior and can vote for her, and then they talked about positions, but not the political type, because the squirrels say the phrase "Lots. Of. Orgasms" came up.
*amused chittering*
*sigh* Yes, all right, it's a pun. Really, who says orgasms aren't part of politics, though? Honestly, have you ever followed politics?
Sparkle couldn't get Johnny's vote, but he introduced himself, offered him a cupcake, and ogled anyway. Not necessarily in that order.
Ichabod showed up, and got a hug and a thank you from Alana for his trouble, so she got his support! Well, if I'd known hugs were offered bribes...I still wouldn't have done anything, because I'm a sophomore. Oh, well. And Sparkle gave him a cupcake, too.
Edward dropped by, and he wanted to know if we're celebrating Mondays now - ugh, as if! - and Alana explained it was because they're running for Student Council and also they're awesome. Um. It...doesn't say here if she meant her and Sparkle, or Mondays. I'm going to take it as her and Sparkle, because that's a lot more true. Or maybe I should choose the more obviously false option, because it's politics? Well, whatever. Edward wanted to know what Student Council is, so she explained that, too. And he agreed that offering people food is an excellent campaign strategy. Here's a tip to anyone who hasn't planned their campaign yet: get Doctor Lecter to cater for you! If he ever gets back from...wherever he is.
Mara introduced herself and asked what the voting was for, and Alana explained, but apparently she's not a junior or a senior, so it didn't really matter. No word on if she got a cupcake anyway.
Vider did, though! And Sparkle asked about the six-pack of honey soda she'd brought. They both agreed American soda is weird and gross - which it obviously isn't, because how else would the government get to give us all our mandatory mind-controlling drugs? - but Sparkle tried the honey soda and loved it, and Vider promised he'd get her vote if he could figure out a way to get it in the dorm vending machines. Which would still be pretty neat!
*chittering*
No, I don't think there are any rum-walnut flavored sodas.
*chittering*
Well, I could ask, but you're not sophomores, are you?
*CHITTERING*
Ow! Okay, I'll ask anyway! If I'm elected.
Kathy showed up and got kicked out of the common room by Sparkle, because apparently her dress was awful, then came back in wearing a different dress. Sparkle said he approved, but he was apparently just being patronizing. He did give her a cupcake, though, and offered to light it, but Kathy did it herself.
Eleanor hung out in the doorway for a while, then went to sit down in a quieter part of the common room, and Alana came over to say hi and ask if she was here for the party or if the party was in her way. The squirrels didn't hear the answer, though. Probably they were a bit too drunk.
Also at the party there was food, and a terrible movie, which Barry was ignoring, so Raven decided he should dance instead. But since there's no dance floor, they decided they needed more cupcakes instead.
You could also talk to the candidates, including Alana, who kept giggling or going to get more pizza. Barry wanted to know what he could expect to get if he voted for her, but after she gave him her whole campaign, it turned out apparently he can't, because he's not a junior. So Sparkle gets his vote instead, and he offered to bribe juniors to vote for her. Sparkle told Barry that a vote for him is a vote for cupcakes and cheap pyrotechnics and also an attempt to put "fuck" into the school motto. All of which sounds like a solid platform! It certainly sold Barry, but he did worry if it'd hurt Sparkle's punk cred. I'm not sure how; isn't profanity on the punk platform, too? Anyway, Sparkle said he has a plan.
Alana complimented Sparkle on the cupcake idea, and he said he was glad they came out well since they did kinda come from a box mix. Oh, dear. Don't tell Doctor Lecter!
And lastly, Karina came by, and cheerfully insulted the party to Sparkle, then said she might need another cupcake to decide whether she agreed with him that it's a win just because there are cupcakes. Well, duh. Cake always wins. Especially if the wheat goes bad and eats you, but apparently it didn't. She got a sparkler with hers, of course, and Sparkle said he was proud of getting a teacher to call him rude things in Chinese today. Which should help that punk cred, I should think!
Not nearly as much happened over in , but at Luke's, Eliot was buried under an applefall when he opened the stockroom door, at Cafe Fina, Hatter was enjoying the smells from the kitchen, and at the Devil's Nest, Jack - the male one - wasn't quite sure what to do with the $3,000 box of paper clips that showed up. The squirrels suggest decorating with them, maybe! Especially if they're sparkly.
*chittering*
Right! Well, it looks like that's all, and the squirrels look pretty ragged. Or drunk. Or both! So I'm going to head on out now. Everybody be safe out there - well, as safe as life can be - and vote for me for sophomore student council! And until next week, I leave you with the weather.
Good morning, Listeners; Cecil here. And wow, it looks like everybody was busy yesterday! I hope you all had a wonderful time.
