Fandom Radio, Tuesday, May 20th
Good morning, Fandom; Cecil here. The squirrels are asking if there's anything I want as a bribe to do this news; they seem a bit disgruntled. But I'm not sure why I would want anything other than the thrill of doing radio, and -
*suspicious chittering*
Well, no, I just... Listeners, the looks I'm getting are not promising. Fine, then. Um. How about...some coffee?
*relieved chittering*
Well, listeners, while the squirrels head off to get my coffee, let me bring you the news.
In classes yesterday, Advanced Film Criticism started with James telling the class he's been going easy on them so far, and then they watched The Oogieloves in the Big Balloon Adventure. Oh, that's a classic! And he expected them to follow the instructions from the people in the movie. Well, really, that's half the fun at the midnight showings, right?
After class, Joker - hi, Joker! - went to talk to the teacher and collect his five-dollar reward for successfully following all the prompts. Well done!
Dance class yesterday focused on tap dance. Kitty says it's not actually that complicated; there's just a few basic steps, and then it's how you use them. So first the class stretched and played with the fun shoes, then Kitty taught them the basic steps and warns them about the noise, and demonstrated a short routine for them to try.
Practical Philosophy discussed duty, and whether people have a responsibility to their fellow beings for...well, anything, apparently. After the lecture, they discussed their views about it.
Things were fairly lively in the dorms, too, where Will was up on the roof, enjoying the fresh, cool air. He even hopped up onto the roof's ledge to get the full experience, which the squirrels are pretty appreciative of. Felicity came up and wasn't quite as enthusiastic about the experience, but Will eventually convinced her to move closer by promising she wouldn't fall and telling her she'd get a great view. Honestly, I don't think you should promise anything you can't guarantee. What if a freak tornado had come along and scooped her off the building? You might be held liable for that by her heirs. Anyway, he showed off the promised view and recommended she visit the beach for another good one.
Cosette also came up and immediately joined Will on the edge of the roof. They talked about their favorite spots on the island some of their favorite things to do, and they both agreed that early morning is a good time. Which I think proves they're mutants - not that there's anything wrong with that.
In office hours today, Riley was fast asleep in his office with his face on the keyboard, Reno was engaging in the mandatory spinning around and bumping into the wall in his office chair, and Herc was stopping by to tell Reno that his son Chuck is in Reno's class. He told Reno a little bit about what's going on in Chuck's world to show why he might be taking the class, and apologized for whatever Chuck might do. Apparently Reno wasn't too worried, which just proves he's a very patient man. Or he hasn't talked with Chuck much.
And in town today, Mercy was at Groovy Tunes playing a lot of music from a band called Home Free, Vic went on patrol around the town with coffee - and the squirrels would like to note here that coffee is important, and Rapunzel - hi, Rapunzel! - discovered the Perk's doughnuts. She tried sketching them so she'd remember them better, but my academically appointed little sibling Barry - who knew about doughnuts already - suggested taking pictures instead. Rapunzel said she thought that was cheating, but I think it depends on why you're sketching. If you're only doing it as a memory aid, probably not? But if you're doing it for the art, then maybe. She also admitted to him that she didn't get out much before coming here.
Meanwhile, at Stark Industries, Cade was working on a little gift for Barry. Which...the squirrels aren't sure if that's supposed to be a surprise, so if it is, Barry - just forget the last minute or so of the broadcast, okay? Nothing important was covered, I promise.
And at the Devil's Nest last night, Jack Priest tried to figure out why Tiny never makes it to any parties. Well, maybe he's an introvert who doesn't like them. Or maybe he's allergic to fun? I knew this girl in middle school, she was allergic to anything more than mild amusement. It was always hard to find anything to do for her birthday.
*chittering, growing louder*
And, oh! The squirrels are here with my coffee! Thank you; you really didn't have to, you know. But it is awfully nice.
And now I'm wondering if I should be suspicious. Barry, do you have a tester for coffee?
Well, anyway, thanks for listening, Fandom, and until next week, I leave you with the weather.
