Fandom Radio, Tuesday, May 13th
The new people are settling in, like layers of sediment telling their story for future generations.
Welcome to Fandom, listeners. It's another week further into the summer session, and classes are in full swing. We all know who everybody is now, as much as anyone can know anybody else, and there were no more introductions.
Advanced Film Criticism had a pop quiz...
*chittering*
Sorry, a popcorn quiz, for which they had to learn how to use an old-fashioned popcorn cart before being allowed to watch Bel-Air Yorkshire Terrier. Apparently, they all passed, and there was popcorn for everyone. After that, they watched the movie, which apparently was awful, as the teacher promised. The class watched it and boggled a bit, and then reviewed it.
Dance started out with the teacher's favorite, ballet, and learned the basics. They listened to the lecture while stretching, then learned positions.
*lewd chittering*
Foot positions, it says right here, see? Honestly!
*disappointed chittering*
Then the teacher put them through a short ballet routine.
Practical Philosophy met outside again, and had sandwiches and drinks while discussing nature versus nurture and how the two aren't really mutually exclusive.
After class, Ender cleaned up and Cade hung around pretending to clean, and they continued the discussion a bit on a more familial level.
Over in the dorms, Four...hi, roomie!...was out on the roof, sticking pretty close to the door. The squirrels say the door is Four's best friend right now. And that's so good to know! It can be hard to make new friends, so kudos to Four for getting out there and doing it!
*skeptical chittering*
Hush. I don't judge.
Edward showed up and assured Four he wasn't going to fall off the divider, despite being pretty cavalier about it. Four just told him he didn't care because he wouldn't be the one cleaning up the mess. Nathan wondered if Edward was an acrobat, but apparently Edward just gets bored! Nathan said he couldn't swim...um. Sorry about the nonsequitur, I'm sure it made sense at the time! So Edward offered to teach him. Neat!
Rapunzel - the roof seems to have been pretty crowded! - was also concerned about Edward, but he said he knows what he's doing. She told him she uses her hair as a climbing rope all the time, and then they talked about the different places he wants to go when he's a sailor.
Nathan talked to Four a bit, and learned about his faction, Dauntless, and how their initiation works. Apparently they had to jump off a building into headquarters? Nathan agreed that you have to be pretty fearless to do that. Or crazy.
*definitive chittering*
The squirrels agree, for the record.
Rapunzel was fascinated with Nathan's sunglasses, and he let her try them and said it would be fine if she got a pair of her own. They talked about how much people seem to like free food because really, who doesn't? Rapunzel also talked to Four, and wondered why he came up to the roof if he didn't like it. She eventually coaxed him further out onto the roof and said she'd like to draw him.
*lewd chittering*
Now stop that!
Sia brought her dog up to the roof and Rapunzel was instantly smitten. Sia assured her that she will get used to the place after a while, and they talked about their pets and how Pascal is apparently pretty competitive.
Sia complimented Four on the originality of his name, and Four met her dog, Vitor, who ended up really loving him and who apparently...um. One moment while I cover Foucault's ears...who apparently is more fun to pet than Foucault.
*confused honking*
Never mind!
Inside the dorms, Flick woke up from a nightmare and tried to calm down. Isabelle, who stayed the night - not a chitter, you! - eventually woke up, too. Flick told her he had had a nightmare, and they talked about her powers of persuasion and how much he enjoyed her wearing his shirt, and they cuddled. Aww.
Isaac was back in his room checking out the new tattoo behind his ear. Isabelle showed up there, too, he told her about having an Oni problem, but assured her that he was himself and not possessed by a Japanese trickster demon, and asked for some advice.
Barry called his parents and tried to tell them he's been doing scientific experiments since he was eight months old, but it didn't really go that well. I went to check on him after hearing the yelling, and we talked a bit.
And Jessica was doing research in her room and answering a text.
Over in the school offices, Riley was on his laptop and phone while holding office hours, and Cara was testing out the sturdiness of her furniture by spinning around in her leather chair.
And in town, Mercy was playing summery music at Groovy Tunes, Will stopped at the Perk to cool off after a run and got flirted with by Celia who used magic to cool him off. He explained that he was running off the funk that came with Mother's Day, which got them talking about coping methods and their childhoods.
At Book Haven, Rosalind discovered that all the books were singing, at the Devil's Nest Jack - the male one - was checking out law schools online, and at Caritas, Kenzi - hi, Kenzi! - was napping and firing Nerf darts at Tino.
*chittering*
Not at the same time.
And it looks like that's all the notes that I've got, so until next week, everybody be well, be yourselves, and remember to occasionally come down off that roof and join the rest of us. Which is not a metaphor. And until then, I leave you with the weather.
