Fandom Radio, Saturday, May 12, 2007
Hello Fandom! This is Willow Rosenberg reporting to you on behalf of Fandom Radio, where we bring to you all the news that squirrels felt like taking notes on during the day. You would think that this would mean a report with a bias towards nut-related activities, but the radio squirrels take their duties very seriously and do not allow their personal feelings to get in the way of fulfilling their jobs! Especially since they love wearing those little press hats. Finding out they couldn't go around with tiny fedoras tipped at a jaunty angle would break their little squirrel hearts. Then they'd cry. It'd be awful. Luckily for us all this is not an issue.
Anyway! Hi! There's a lot of new people out there and I know getting used to Fandom can take a while. To help you out a little, let me first point out that for those of you who are not familiar with what a 'radio' is, you are not currently being talked to by an invisible person. If you look around I think you'll find there's an object of some sort, usually rectangular but not always, and sound is coming out of it. That is a radio. Unless the object making noise is furry and the rectangular object is on top of it, in which case that is most likely a cat that is trapped beneath a heavy book. In which case lift the book - which is the rectangular object, not the furry one - up very carefully so that you can set the kitty free. Cats, though smart, do not appreciate reading from a squished perspective.
And for those of you who are, say, from the dimension of my cooking study buddy, allow me to explain that rectangles are what your paper would look like if you stopped clipping the corners off of it.
Moving on with our lessons, my name is Willow Rosenberg and for those of you who haven't met me yet I am the redhead who looks like me. Unless there's a girl named Trina here in which case she is also a redhead that looks like me but I am not her and she is not me much though this may cause some confusion. To help clear it up I'm the redhead who looks like me who will say "Hi!" if you call me Willow or "No, sorry, I'm Willow!" if you call me Trina. Trina would respond differently though I couldn't tell you how as I've never met her and thus haven't been able to ask her. But it's still a fair assumption to make, I think.
Now that we've cleared all that up and set the squished kitties free, we can move on to the news!
School! Which we miss terribly and hope comes back soon because without school we can't be graded and without grades we can't be validated and then we're all sad and mopey and it's horrible, really.
Typically on Saturdays there is detention. In detention Seely "Looks like Angel but isn't" Booth always has the best punishments. He's very lucky that way. Today's punishment was to watch folks eating s'mores while being forbidden to actually get any. Neener.
Also in school-related activities there was Principal Washburn's office hours. She meets with someone named Drax, which I thought was a breakfast cereal at first but turns out not so much.
Dorms! By which we mean cabins! Hi Chimerians!!
In Platypus cabin Roxas is very happy to find his bed. His bed, in turn, was happy to be found and swears to hold Roxas's hand better when they're out at the store. Annette wakes Roxas up and tells him he might have missed breakfast. Which is really not the most cheerful way to wake somebody when you think about it. Couldn't she have tried putting a more positive spin on that by focusing on how Roxas was on time for lunch? Luke, who we assume did not miss breakfast, is a morning person at Roxas. Perhaps to other people he is an afternoon person, or an evening person, or a that time of day when you're kind of hungry but it's no particular mealtime but you still feel like you could eat something person to still others. We may never know.
Over in Salamander cabin Kabuto works on his laptop which tells me right away that this is someone with proper priorities. Eve and Kabuto meet each other, but we do not yet know Eve's feelings about computers. Perhaps that'll be a cliffhanger for us for the next round of radio. Wyatt meets Savannah and is glad she's not going to kill him which is both reassuring and worrying at the same time. Isn't the usual initial cabin concern that you took an alcove that somebody else already laid claim to? Or maybe that's what happened and Savannah has strong issues about protecting her space. Tannim meets Savannah and Wyatt fills him in on the whole school + Martians = big hole in the ground issue.
D'anna has a fire going by Pixie cabin. Kou sleeps naked in Chupacabra cabin, which tells me that Kou has no fears about bug bites in interesting places. Over in Cthulhu Valentine juggles and Demyx plays guitar.
In the part of the dorms that are actually dorms, Cameron gives his bike to Kawalsky then heads up to his room to say goodbye. He gets a goodbye-phone call. Katara says she'll scold him if he gets hurt. Angela gives him a present then finds out he won't be back for a while. Wow. Harsh reaction to a nice gesture on Angela's part, Cameron. Zoe visits to say goodbye and do other things but OH MY GOD THE PRINCIPAL IS IN A STUDENT'S ROOM!!!! One can only assume Cam is still hyperventilating. I know I would be.
John Crichton and Cameron talk about being not-twins in the sense of looking alike but not being related so far as anyone knew. Bel shimmers in from Venice to apologize for all the Source stuff and win the award for friend of Cam's who traveled the greatest distance to say goodbye to him. Sam who is unrelated to Dean talks to Cam about the future, and how it's unfortunate that while they're both going to Colorado it's not the same one. Parker asks who she'll dress like a superhero now and wow. I did not know Parker and Cam had that kind of relationship, and I'm a little scared of the mental images this information now gives me.
Cally wants to know where Cam is off to and they talk about people leaving - I'm against it, for the record. It leads to runny noses and splotchy faces. Molly may agree with me as she doesn't want to say goodbye or be forgotten by Cam. The bestest boyfriend in all the land talks with Cam about fighter pilots and all for one and one for Stickbugs. Bridge gives Cameron a camera and they bond over being cadets. Cameron then tells Isabel that he's not saying goodbye, and hopefully he means that in a 'see you again soon' kind of way and not a 'I am so totally shunning you for some reason and will not unshun for goodbye related purposes, so there' way. Cam then leaves, woe.
Jack is also breaking Fandom's heart - and the hearts of local wholesale condom suppliers - by leaving town. Katara gives him a medical kit as a goodbye present and considering all that goes on in Fandom I'm surprised we don't include those in the welcome kits as well. Angela wishes him luck and says that Pixie cabin won't be the same without him, which is possibly the understatement of the year next to "Graduation had some things happen which were not the norm." Jack tells Annette not to let the new kids get away with anything, so all new kids should be on the lookout for a blonde on a mission. Rory says the g-word. Evie gives Jack presents and tells him not to marry a bunch of alien princesses all at once. You hear that, Jack? If you're going to marry a bunch of alien princesses the least you can do is space it out.
Lana is shocked that Jack is leaving already - see? Time is going way too fast on these things. Irulan brings Jack a hat and says she is so on to his attempt to leave town before he can fulfill his ice cream obligations to her. Molly continues her quest to try to get people to stop leaving and says that if Jack has to leave then he also has to write. To Molly, one assumes. The "For a good time call me" notes he leaves in bathrooms do not count.
Jaye is clingy though this may be an attempt to trick Jack out of his shirt. Assuming he was wearing one to begin with. Parker and Jack are sweet which would make me worry about this being the end of the world but it's Saturday so we're safe there. D'anna is on a firm leaving=sucks platform. River and Jack wish each other well. Jarod and Jack absolutely do not flirt, no really, and here's a bridge you can buy too. No, not Bridge. The Bridge of a Carson variety is not for sale. Well, not since it's no longer that weekend that we don't talk about and I spent the whole time indoors and reading books. Cam and Jack talk plans and head their separate ways. And Jack and Isabel break all of our hearts into tiny itty bitty pieces. Finally, Sam who is unrelated to Dean, Jack, and Cedric "celebrate" Jack's "last night" with "dinner" and "wand jokes." Ahem.
Town! Where fun things can be found even though they are not directly school or dorms related.
Kenpachi finds his new house. Deadpool finds his door unlocked. The squirrels have actually written "DUN DUN DUN" next to this which tells me that they've progressed to understanding the idea of a soundtrack if not the actual nuances of one. Aly returns to Fandom and meets up with Roy. They discuss a possible chess match. Did he mention anything about cookies? There haven't been reports of any troopers having sudden allergy attacks, have there?
Thursday and Friday eat breakfast. Drax comes by and rents a room. From Thursday, not the breakfast. Though in Fandom it would not be unheard of to rent a room from food items. Heck, that's just a half step away from the setup of Cafe Fina right now. Speaking of which, Cafe Fina is open. For the newbies we report stuff like that so you know what happened during the day. You don't actually have to wait for a radio person to say that a place was open for you to go to it. We're not like a starting bell or anything.
Speaking of things which are not closed, there is Book Haven, Photo Hut, the Post Office, the Clinic, and (Y)MCA. I visit Xander at that last one and we talk about things that I'm not going to mention on the radio though I will say any new residents should be prepared with good answers about purple napkins. Our forms are thorough.
No Dancing, Not Now, Not Ever is open. Isabel and Parker make an attempt to drown their sorrows. Here's hoping their sorrows do not thrive in alcohol. Steve who is not actually a Peter comes in looking for a way to get drunk. Have you tried turning into a glass of water? Rory brings Ellen some muffins, which is nice of her.
On the beach we find Haku practicing katas and Karal and Trenor doing things that Karal and Trenor do on beaches, I guess. Trenor's a horse but given the horses I have met in my time I have to say that is no guarantee that Trenor was not doing some katas as well. Ronon also enjoys the beach, which reminds me that it's coming to that time of year when lunchtime picinics with the right person are rather fun. Parker meets Karal and Karal manages to escape without being hit by either Parker or one of Parker's shoes, so score one for Karal there.
Welcome Picnic! Where there is a picnic and welcoming and really the name was kind of self-explanatory.
So first we have the meeting of the siblings - Hi Billy! Lana meets Inara, Liz Sherman meets Qui-Gon Jinn. Isabel meets Jaina, Seely meets Cordelia.
...
Oh God, that can't be right. Please tell me it's not who I'm thinking of. Please.
Sigh.
Hoookay, moving on. Mel meets Ed Elric. Bridge meets Mikey. Karal mixes things up by going on the prowl for Demyx as does Sabriel but for Mac. Cally meets Savannah. Lucas meets Adam. Andros meets Summer. Ronin meets Sam who is related to Dean. Annette meets Avaris. Ralph meets Tannim. Katara is on the lookout for Keladry. Roxas finally gets out of bed in time to meet Pam. Dean and Charlie meet up again. Ami hopes to meet Abigail. Jim meets Haku. Molly waits for Ba'al. Warren meets Billy. Sokka waits for his little sib and - why on earth did the squirrels write down that this makes Sokka an animal? That's surprisingly rude, and wow with the non-sequitur. Tsk. Anyway, Eve waits for my cooking study buddy, and Inara and Jiana, Adam and Billy, and Evie and Warren branch out from the sibling concept to meet people that they have different relationships with here at school.
Fraser and Aly catch up with each other. One of them has blue hair and the other has a new hat. I'll leave it to you to guess which is which. Ares flirts shamelessly with Aly and we all drop dead of surprise. Arashi wants to know what Aly did with her hair and/or hat. Sokka hums Cuban Pete at Hades and Hades makes it absolutely clear that he is not the king of any beat, rhumba or otherwise.
Eve meets Mr. Dean and Sam's Daddy. Billy tells him he's taking his firearms course. Be careful! Warren meets Buster and finds out how he got his hook. You'd think Warren would know how he got his own hook already but maybe Warren is forgetful and Buster is both thoughtful and psychic. Anakin meets Squall, who is his teaching buddy. And that's nice and all but cooking study buddies are way cooler. Anakin then meets Jaina which is apparently a Big Deal so, yanno, Dun Dun Dun yet again. Vala meets Eve and then Aeryn and Vala is absolutely totally not cloned, which makes me think that maybe she's in denial or something.
Annette tells Gavin about cheerleading and all sorts of Fandom wackiness including how at one point Annette's boyfriend was her girlfriend. Conner spots Andros and Z says something but my notes get all smeary so I'm not sure what's going on and will guess that maybe Conner was going to swipe a sandwich that Andros wanted and Z thwapped him to get him to stop. Oh, Conner compliments Andros on his wardrobe, so maybe Conner was flirting instead and Z wanted Andros for herself. It could happen. Andros then gets to formally meet Adam, Z, and Bridge in the sense that introductions were made and not in the sense that actual tuxes and engraved invitations were required.
Annette fills Sabriel in on more of the wackiness, including her lesbian roommate, but with that it's not so much wacky as a description. Qui-Gon makes sure Sabriel is settling in okay, which is nice of him. Annette introduces herself to Edward. Alec and Seely go shirtless, thus allowing those who had "0.000001 seconds after arriving at the picnic" down in the "How long will it take for Alec and Seely to lose their shirts and/or scandalize the newbies?" pool to cheer and collect their winnings.
Alec gets Ronan shirtless - thus allowing the people who had that down in the pool to collect their winnings - and finds out Ronan's got a scar which possibly ups Ronan's attractiveness level for those who are into such things. And I have no idea why the squirrels just handed me a note about Steve "the inferior Peter" Petrelli in relation to that comment, but I suspect the squirrels have been drinking a lot of Barbossa's rum today. Annette gets Alec's advice about being naughty in the cabins and now that Jack's leaving town I will admit she picked a good guy to turn to. Dean and Alec discuss Dean's little sister, who I assume was the earlier mentioned Charlie. Z and Billy are all for the shirtlessness but it doesn't say if either one of them joins in or skips to the part where they take pictures.
Gavin makes sure Karal is okay and meets Karal's cat Altra, who hopefully is not trapped under a book right now. Or ever, come to think of it. Qui-Gon meets Karal and they talk about meeting folks from your future. Yep, this is Fandom where time is not so much linear as it is a Spirograph. Will tells Karal all about the klepto bunny. I would've lead with the weetiny ones myself. Molly is looking for Ba'al but meets Karal instead, which would make a rhyming dictionary happy but doesn't fulfill Molly's Ba'al needs when you get right down to it.
Buffy glitters Karal and then wonders why he's not kissing anyone. Buffy, he's only been in Fandom since sometime yesterday. They need to breathe the air at least 24 hours before the boykissy takes effect. Dean and Seely discuss shirtlessness and little sisters and Sokka is with me on the I HOPE NOT AT THE SAME TIME, GUYS! thing. Sabriel meets Donatello and adjusts fairly quickly to how Donatello is a giant turtle.
... we have giant turtles here now? Oh my gosh! I have to talk to you guys! I am so going to be on the lookout for you now.
Donatello and Raphael check in and wonder how Mikey's doing. Annette wonders how Donatello sleeps. With his eyes closed, one assumes. There could possibly be snoring but that happens to the best of us. Dean wonders if Donatello has always been a giant turtle. No I am not reading this note about how it is not the size of the turtle that matters. Will wonders if there's a reason why the turtles have different bandana colors. My guess is less confusion about which is whose when you take them out of the wash. Molly confuses Donatello for one of his brothers, and Luke makes sure Donatello is still doing okay.
Billy thinks that it was only a matter of time before Fandom had giant turtles, and you can't say he was wrong about that. Jo and Gavin have a contest to see which one of them knows more boring places. I guess you win when the other person falls asleep from listening to you. Jo recommends that Qui-Gon try pie. Buffy recommends that Qui-Gon tries slaying. I'm not going to pass judgement but one of these options is more delicious than the other. Warren thinks Buffy is cool for being head cheerleader, which just goes to show Warren has no idea of the many ways in which Buffy is cool, cheerleading or otherwise.
Savannah and Raphael agree to never make assumptions about each other. Making assumptions about other people is still up for grabs, apparently. Dean figures out that Raphael doesn't want to be here. Aww! We're very nice here, we promise! Well except for Seely. His form of nice involves hands in bad places and I don't think he'd let a shell stop him, if we're being frank here. Johnny is a bit taken aback by the giant turtle concept. Robin, on the other hand, does not seem to be taken aback by giant turtles.
Conner and Tori catch up. Alec hits on Abigail, thus reassuring all of us that he's still alive. Buffy introduces Abigail to the glitter/boykissy concept. Abigail will undoubtedly thank her later. Dean tells Abigail she looks like his brother as a girl. I'm sure this now guarantees that Dean and Abigail will never be dating. Abigail meets a shirtless Seely. I regret to inform Abigail that there is rarely another kind. She then agrees with Johnny that it might be warm enough to be shirtless. This may or may not be related to Molly asking if she's been given the warnings. Billy and Abigail meet.
Annette asks Vi if she's met her big sibling yet. Vi and Dean talk about hunting and slaying and while I do not know who Vi is I can at least assure her that that kind of talk in Fandom does not get you immediately locked up for being a serial killer. Edward and Vi talk about siblings and jobs. I'd like to think that if I needed money I'd go out and work myself and not expect my sibling or someone like unto a sibling to me to shoulder that entire burden his or herself. I don't know why I feel a need to mention that though. Dawn apparently knows Vi so yay, friend for Dawnie!
Savannah encourages Johnny's shirtlessness. Somewhere out there Jaye is happy that her legacy will be living on in Fandom even when she's not here. Jaina wonders about the lack of shirts situation and then she and Johnny get to know each other but hopefully not in the Biblical sense since hi they just met. John Sheppard - okay is it just me or are the Johns starting to outnumber the Peters around here? - anyway, he meets Annette and then Dean. Dean and Qui-Gon meet and talk Jedi and I so can't picture Dean in those robes.
Billy and Tori say hi to Annette. Jaina and Gavin talk about how they weren't even supposed to be here today. Jaina is surprised to meet Qui-Gon 1.0 where the 1.0 is the version that is way younger than Jaina would be expecting. Dean confuses Jaina by trying to explain the shirtlessness. See, here's how you tell Dean and Alec apart: Alec would've gone straight for the visual. Jaina and Vi bond over being the only girls in Chupacabra. The boys of their cabin are undoubtedly arm wrestling over them as we speak. Jaina tells Jo she's expecting to meet her grandtwins. Hey, that puts her way ahead of the game compared to most of us in Fandom. Luke tells Jaina that pie helps with the brain breaky. So does chocolate, which also helps with everything else known to man except for chocolate allergies. Jaina then meets Robin.
Dean and Annette talk little siblings and ghosts. Does anybody here have one that covers both categories? Because that would not be unheard of. Annette discovers that Prue is a Halliwell. We've got a new one here? Hi! Looking forward to meeting you! Ahhh, Prue is Wyatt's aunt. Wyatt's brain is presumably now over in a corner and drinking all the vodka it can get ahold of. Prue and Sabriel chat. Maybe about monkeys. Summer checks to see on how her roomie's aunt is doing. You know if somebody tried drawing a Fandom family tree based on everyone here and their relationships to each other I think they would burst into tears and voluntarily commit themselves. Dean lets Sam who is his brother know that Abigail looks like girl!him. So now Sam too knows that this means a very very small likelihood of Dean ever being interested in going on a date with Abigail. Dean then asks Ronan how he's liking Fandom.
Molly figures out that Qui-Gon is a Jedi based on his braid. Jedis are really not the masters of disguise as far as that's concerned. They may want to think about that. Warren thinks Qui-Gon is Korean. Your guess is as good as mine, people. Molly and Will boggle at all the newbies. It's like an invasion, but with students. Will is impressed by Qui-Gon's manners. Jedis are smooth like that, one must admit. Luke and Tori talk about the new kids. Not behind their backs or anything. That would be rude. Gavin and Luke catch up and bond over games that they played with sand. That sounds both interesting and kind of itchy. Dean tells Luke that there's other Jedi around. In case the Korean costumes were throwing him, I guess. Robin says hi to Luke.
Gavin and Inara meet and talk about what a companion is. Someone who keeps people company? Just my guess. Inara meets Luke and Luke shows off a little of the ol' Jedi smoothness if you know what I mean. Um, not dirty. And that has nothing to do with his light saber! Molly meets Ed Elric and finds out that Ed is all OMGYAY over finding Al here. Dawn and Katara talk new students while Dawn and Dean talk food. Which is really a great snapshot of a fundamental difference between Katara and Dean right there. Yanno, besides things like one's a girl and the other is a boy.
Charlie finds Dean and they see which one of them has won newbie Bingo yet. Billy wants to know if Dawn broke anyone's brain. If not, there's always tomorrow. Inara meets Principal Washburn and apparently it's more fun with wacky timelines and/or dimensions to be had there. Either that or Inara totally knows Zoe but is pretending she doesn't because she knows Zoe from another school and she got in trouble all the time and now she's trying to pretend that they've never met before so that Zoe doesn't automatically slam her into detention like she's Seely or something.
Zero has baby names to suggest for our fair principal. Zoe then shares this list with Mr. Dean and Sam's Daddy. Qui-Gon and Luke meet up and do the secret Jedi handshake. And Charlie gets to meet Billy and Alec. Whether or not she also got to meet Billy and Alec's shirts remains a mystery.
And that's all the news I have to report! I'm off to enjoy the rest of my evening. Hi to all newbies and I hope everybody has a good night!
Anyway! Hi! There's a lot of new people out there and I know getting used to Fandom can take a while.
