Fandom Radio, Tuesday, July 31st
Morning. Well, look at that. I'd like to be able to tell you all that I woke up this early without the help of the squirrels chasing me out of bed this morning, but I really wasn't asleep in the first place, so I can hardly be held accountable if the broadcast this morning seems a little scattershot. This is Jonothon Starsmore on WTFH radio, and here's what happened on the island, yesterday.
At the School, which I would be fine with never stepping into again, Fiction and Alternate History were somewhat at odds during William's shift in the library. Madrox was quieter than usual in study hall, and I don't imagine anybody can blame him for it, except perhaps the talking furniture. Ender had some company in the way of Ben for his Practical Philosophy class, which took things easy with food after Ender lectured about not taking what happened last week too personally. Ben stuck around for the entire class, just to be on the safe side. Angela decided that it was going to be a film day in Art Games, though Kenzi decided to introduce herself to Arietty and talk about the ethics of borrowing through the film. You know, normally I'd have some scathing comment about talking while other people are trying to watch, but... I imagine there weren't many heads actually in it, anyhow.
Romeo's Poetry class was covering sonnets, and he had his students write sonnets of their own. And Zayne turned the past week into a learning opportunity in Middle of a War class by asking his students what they've learned. James and Atton had insights to share, at least. Me, I learned that I don't like the colour pink. And that I need to get out and appreciate the sunrise more often. Probably not what Zayne had in mind, but I don't particularly care right now.
And I'm certain everybody will be pleased to hear that Professor Skywalker is alive and well, and he was holding office hours yesterday armed with tissues, pastries, and coffee. Jaina stopped by for a hug even though most details about last week were a bit murky, and they talked about how rotten July had been. Rory brought Juliet in, and more coffee, and they talked about how Anakin had been made a martyr before talking about more horrifying things. Like Deadpool and Jaye. Together. Bloody hell, that's horrifying. Raven... Raven stopped in to talk about her guilty conscience, and how difficult it's going to be to deal with people for a while. And Zoe had a hug for Anakin as well, along with the reassurance that the next time somebody tries to take over the school, she's just going to shoot them. I can't stay I find a flaw in that logic right now.
In the Dorms, James was ignoring a letter that he was trying to write in favour of texting with Leda. Ender and Ben cuddled and talked about some of the horrors of last week after Ben turned back from a cat. Fortunately, Ben seemed to be okay with having been knocked out and left in a basement. Atton stopped by Sia's room to make sure she's holding up alright, and after some talk about a fight they were in, he invited her out for drinks. Luke went straight to bed, though Percy stopped by to apologize for killing him, and Kate called to check up on him. Tony woke up clinging to Stephanie and suffering a hangover, and I think you've found a keeper, Tony Stark, if she's threatening to beat on you if you ever turn out the way you did last week. Stephanie, be vigilant. But you may keep talking about dressing him in drag if you wish, because I find that especially amusing. And Topher woke up hiding in his closet. He wasn't in there long, because he had to come out to make a run to...
...Town, where he still had Peter tied to a chair. Oops. Tahiri had Jaina meet her on the beach, and there she talked about how she wasn't terribly thrilled with the fact that she keeps going evil in all of these alternate realities. Look on the bright side, Tahiri. At least this means that you have nothing to be jealous of.
Angelica was at the Gig, slipping back into routine with the horses. Carl was at a loss for describing the week before at the Fandom Island Gazette office, so instead he's taking submissions for a mid-week edition of the paper. If you've got something to say, send it in and then keep an eye out for it tomorrow. Bruce Banner was in the park, meditating, and I don't think there's a person on the island who'll begrudge him that quiet time, either. Vincent was cooking up a storm at Cafe Luke's, when Kenzi came in demanding food, all the food, and any food, just so long as it isn't British. I... No, no, I can see where you'd come to that conclusion. But there were people who were eating far worse than you, Kenzi, trust me. Surreal was running through the stock of Voodoo dolls at the Magic Box when Tara came in to check on her, and Surreal explained that she was checking to see if the dolls would work across realities on the man who sent her to Fandom Island in the first place. And with Cara, she talked about purging the island of all things pink and glittery. Squirrels, that is not an invitation to pull out the glitter cannons again. Put those blasted things away.
Dinah was eating a large amount of well-deserved chocolate at The Perk yesterday, when Raven texted her to let her know that she wasn't going to be stopping by to visit, because she was taking off for a while. Raven, if... if you're listening to this, please, at least tell us where you're going, this time? And keep your phone with you, and leave if anything happens, don't make me beg you over the goddamn radio. You aren't the only person who did things you regret last week, god damn you. That goes for the rest of you lot dealing with guilty consciences, too. If I'm not allowed to hide myself away after a year of mind-control that I will never so long as I live be able to atone for, you don't get to after a week. A week that got undone.
… Sorry. I. Notes. Notes. Priestly and Dinah shared her chocolate and talked about people they need to catch up with after last week. And Sam stopped by, too, and they talked about the food in detention and promised to watch one another's backs from here on out. Jack was doing his Devil's Nest work outside yesterday when Bo came around to visit with food, as a sort of 'I'm sorry for killing you last week' gift.
Clint was taking some time to think on the consequences of his actions last week while sitting up on a rooftop in town. Natalie climbed up to join him, and pointed out that he wasn't the only one who fell under the Imperio spell, pointing out that the people of Fandom are generally no strangers to alternate realities and dealing with the consequences of the things done by our other selves when things get bad. Billy Kessler offered Clint a donut, and they talked about being mind-controlled - there really ought to be a club or a help-group or something for this - before complimenting one another on their fighting skills. Kitty climbed up there too, and talked about how it doesn't make you weaker than any of the other strong people who were Imperio'd last week, falling to that spell. Kitty can lead the help-group that I just decided should exist, perhaps.
Sookie was at J,GoB yesterday evening with chocolate milk and cupcakes, alive and well. Sookie, remind me to visit you at some point, hm? It's been a while. And Dinah. And Bobby, I haven't seen you in some time, and Jack, Rinoa, April, Liara, and... If we were in detention together, I wouldn't mind touching base sometime to see how you're holding up, I mean. Yes, those are words you probably won't hear out of me again.
At Caritas, Jake was dealing with his trauma with maple vodka. I wasn't aware that was actually a thing, but I think I need it in my life, now. Coulson was also coping with alcohol. I suppose the things that happened last week really aren't the sort of things you ever get used to.
And me, I've ranted like a madman for long enough this morning. I'm going to head back to the Boards, perhaps. Try to actually get some sleep. We'll see. Good day, Fandom. Try to get outside for a while today, perhaps. Appreciate the sky. Say hello to the people you care about. All of that soppy rot.
Never a better time than the present, is there? Tomorrow it might be gone.
