Fandom Radio, Sunday, May 13
Well, good morning, Fandom. Looks like not a weekend can go by without a posse of squirrels luring me here to the radio station. For those of you who don't know yet, I'm Jonothon Starsmore, and I work down at the Boards. You may direct all future complaints about my broadcast there.
Preferably on days that I'm not working. I've been told I don't play nice with others when there's criticism afoot.
Now, rather than rambling on about how I'm a Cancer, a natural brunette, and giving a numbered list of my favourite music as arranged by genre, I suppose I ought to get on with my weekly helping of invading your privacy.
Yes. Yours.
At the School, there wasn't much on the go, really. Cassidy was in the library, where she met the new Librarian, who I hear is rather fond of bananas. If you want anything else from this section of the notes on a Sunday, you'll all have to start breaking the rules and doing a shite enough job of it that you get caught, won't you?
Detentions here really are something else, new kids. I had tea with a holographic ghost once. Back when I had... somewhat debilitating dental troubles.
And presumably since yesterday was such a lovely day, nobody stayed inside at the dorms. There was something of a flurry of activity in Town, though, beginning with Dani relocating hay bales down at the Gig. Electroclash was reading lesson plans at the Perk, which if nothing else might serve to assure you that there are teachers here who actually bother with lesson plans in the first place. At Turtle & Canary, Valentine was interrupted from making Help Wanted signs by Ender, who was at least kind enough to bring food to eat while they discussed his class.
See? Discussions about classes, as well. What workshops are they offering this summer, anyhow? Not that it matters to me, having graduated some time ago and all, but it is nice to have something to be envious about from time to time.
Down at Stark Industries, Topher was putting forth his best efforts to repair a malfunctioning fridge when Samus stopped by to pay him a visit, being his new boss and all. Also paying him a visit? Billy, with bagels, and coffee, and presumably a smile. Meanwhile, because I'm a great bloody berk who didn't have an opportunity to hang last weekend's posters, my grand plans for a jam session at the Boards were put temporarily on hold.
Again.
This is going to become a running gag in short order, I imagine. In any case, Emma paid me a visit, to my pleasant surprise. And then I felt vaguely ashamed of feeling surprised in the first place, since she's apparently been on the island for a few weeks, now. Brilliant show, Starsmore. Simply brilliant.
At the Devil's Nest, Bo and Tiny were hard at work concocting superhero-themed drinks. Now the question is, were they fictional heroes, like Bitterwoman and the Y-People, or were they based on actual people?
I'm only saying that I'd be far less likely to drink an Iron Man than a Radioactive Man. But then, on the other hand, I could probably come to appreciate an Invisible Woman...
Please tell me there aren't any Fantastic Four on the island right now?
*Chittering*
Oh, good.
Ahem. Holmes and Bo discussed their respective lines of work after a brief inquiry about the drink specials. And then an orangutan walked into a bar.
… No, really. Bo had some difficulty understanding him, so they settled on some Buttface Amber Ale. Which is actually a thing? Dear lord, America. Why? What did the ale ever do to you? Trick had the right idea, stopping in and ordering mead, and Yakko... Yakko was more interested in finding out if the bartender could tie a knot in a cherry stem, actually.
And now, the answer to where everybody was yesterday that kept me from getting any notes from the dorms. Apparently, they were all down at the beach, where Tony Stark was resting after his morning run. Victor joined him, and the two of them discussed AI, and romping boyishly through Tony's lab. Possibly while tittering giddily like wee schoolgirls. We seem to get a lot of that when it comes to mad science around here. Bobby Drake and Victor had what I can only presume was a slightly less schoolgirl-glee-filled conversation about everything from Kennedy's class to pet dinosaurs, and then Victor and Ender discussed whether the magnetic attraction Victor felt for the beach was because he was new to the island, or simply from L.A.
Must be the second. I mostly just sat on the shoreline and glowered at the water when I was new here.
And then, in true new student fashion, Victor and Fawn discussed how the island has been treating them so far. I can only assume neither of you has been turned into a llama yet, or made to speak only pig-latin for a day or had pudding rain down on your heads. You'll be fine. Bobby had a bit of a shocked reaction at seeing Tony out in the daylight, mind. Some things are strange even for Fandom, yes. But then, this is Bobby Drake. His measure of weird had Ender threaten to chaperone him the next time he ran off drinking with all the other crazy lads that he runs about with around here. Ender maybe isn't much better, mind, as his conversation with Tony led to talk of teaching, bad humour, and worse life choices.
Don't get me started on horrible life choices, mates.
The boy with the twinkly name showed up as well, and he and Tony talked about how people with powers are, in fact, real, before starting in on the shameless science-related sexual innuendo. See? What did I say about science on this island? Ender asked on a scale of one-to-ten just how sarcastic a response he'd get if he asked Sparkle whether he was new. Apparently, the answer is a seven, just so the rest of you know in the future when you approach a lad with hedgehog hair and more makeup than Dazzler. Victor and Sparkle talked about playing deserted island, which I imagine was a touch more upbeat than their talk about living situations. The notes don't give details, no, but I'm making an educated assumption, here. Life is depressing. I dare you to convince me otherwise.
And then, wrapping up my notes, Tony ran into Fawn on the beach as well. There was no scale-of-one-to-ten sarcastic response when he asked if she was new, but he did learn that she's from 1989, and New York.
Apparently she also enjoys long walks on the beach, folks.
And... I believe that's everything. And all this reading about the beach almost makes me want to go for a bit of a walk there, myself. Almost.
Take care, Fandom. And new kids? Don't blow up the dorms or anything your first month here. It's terribly embarrassing.
