Fandom Radio, Thursday, January 19

Good morning, everyone! I hope you're not all as caffeinated as I am - I think the Perk turned their roast up to full blast today, so this should make trying to decipher squirrel scribbles extra fun.

Over at the school, classes were much less musical this week than last week. Jamie and Jeff introduced their class to Captain Subtext and a helmet that said whether or not you were telling the truth, proving once again that the school board hates you all. Everyone had to pair up and try not to set off the subtext alarms; Hank tried and failed to flirt with Cara, Rilla and Juliet couldn't even talk about hair without subtext getting in the way, and there was even subtext in Anna and Elphaba complaining about not wanting to do the assignment. Jamie tried to give Sam a new list of things to do, but she dodged it, so Miley got it instead. This sounds like it needs to be a turn-based punishment for ending up as TAs or something. Jamie complained to Jeff about not being able to see with the helmet on, which makes me wonder if he even knew that it was Jim who stopped to see him after class.

In Is a Cigar Just a Cigar?, the students talked about "always" and "never" and how all trips are quests, and then they went on a quest of their own through a Danger Shop-induced Perk, dealing with dogs and foul weather and someone wanting to go elsewhere. Mad Kings and Queens talked about Mad King George, which seems awfully fitting considering the class name, and the students tried to decide if his insanity was propoganda or historical fact.

Practical Mythology met in a simulated meadow to discuss the Titans, the story of Prometheus, and whether or not they'd be willing to suffer eternal punishment for doing what they thought was the right thing. The answers to that question were probably a lot different around here than they would be elsewhere. And at the library, Dorothy was reading a history book to catch up on what's happened since her time period. Clearly, someone should introduce that girl to the internet. Carefully, I mean.

In the dorms, Peter was stressing out over some video feeds of news, presumably from home. Natalie stopped by, and heard about the political upheaval going on in Peter's world, which made last week's singing seem not so bad in comparison. Loki came by out of boredom, disappointed to see that Topher wasn't still running around Peter's room as a gopher, and Peter checked to see how he was settling in. Ben checked in on Peter, and heard all about what was going on in the news, and Topher came by too, and tried to cheer Peter up by telling him about how he got drunk and helped buy a bunch of penguins. As long as none of them are for eating, I'm not going to judge.

Up in the second floor common room, Dorothy set her history book aside to watch television instead, which is almost as good as the internet I suppose, but not quite. Butters came in singing, and after introducing himself to Dorothy, he joined her in her television viewing, and explained the show to her, which sounds awfully nice of him.

It looks like things were kind of quiet in town today: Quinn was doing her Spanish homework at the Arms Hotel, and Lion-o was having a hard time understanding goat cheese at Cafe Luke's. What's there to understand besides that it's delicious? Samus arrived for her first day as the new owner of Turtle and Canary, and Hank was there to help her get settled in.

William had to deal with the computer screens at Stark Industries playing some weird French animation, and I had to deal with soap operas instead of the news at the clinic, so I guess I feel better knowing I wasn't alone in that technological weirdness. And Nathan was eating ice cream and being mean to Tino at Caritas, and Britta came in demanding a three-olive martini, and gave Nathan a lecture in violating social norms in return. I think he probably would have rather had a tip, but that could just be me.

That's all I have here, so I guess that's my cue to sign off. Have a great day, and if you're still angsting about anything you did this weekend, just stop and let it go. You'll feel much better, trust me.
